Alita: Battle Angel (2019, EP: James Cameron, D: Robert Rodriguez)

Saw the trailer for this tonight. It looks like a hot pile of dog piss.
Robert Rodriguez has always struck me as someone more interested in assembling a movie rather than directing one. Sin City was pretty good. Nothing else he's done really holds up though.

Moving the date didn't work for Jupiter Ascending a few years ago, and it ain't gonna help this one. What's wrong with just putting it on Netflix?

I'd say that From Dusk Till Dawn still holds up (although, yes, a lot of that is probably cause of Tarantino's script). But yeah, not a big fan of the rest of his work. Have never bothered to watch the Spy Kids movies and never will. El Mariachi is okay, if just for the backstory about how he managed to make it for like $7000, but it mostly only gets watched by film students. Desperado has its moments (Salma Hayek!), but the story is just ludicrous.

Rumored $175m budget would be what.

Now that uncle Harvey is in the clink and this looks like a giant turd, hopefully no one wil ever give him a seven figure budget until he redeems himself. I was so looking forward to whatever this guy did after being impressed by El Mariachi and he’s been nothing but a major disappointment.

If anyone’s interested in seeing this at the theater, Walmart has a number of nifty steelbook Blu-rays for $13-15 that include $8 in movie cash to see Alita (and some, if not all, also include art cards for the new movie).

Those “big eyes” still look freaky and distracting.

I feel like they toned down the eyes but maybe it's my imagination.
It's cool that Motorball is in this, though now I'm wondering just how much they crammed in here. Also F Hugo.

After watching the latest trailer, this is beginning to look very cool.
However, it's not going to be a blockbuster.

Yeah, hadn't been paying attention to this but that last trailer looks good. Some fun sci fi.

While this doesn’t look like my cup of tea at all, James Cameron’s attachment makes me hopeful. When he directs, it’s always great, when he produces, it’s not great, but still usually very good.

Unfortunately, we will have quite a wait until Avatar 2 drops.

I watched a 12 min screening and it was pretty damn good. I'm for sure looking forward to the whole feature.

I'm interested in watching this, but I kind of want to watch the old anime series it's based on first.

I saw the new trailer before Aquaman. It's looking slightly better but it could go either way. I still get freaked out every time I see CG anime eyes for Akita.
