Anybody else see Machete Maidens Unleashed?

It's a documentary about low budget Western productions being made in the Phillipines during the 60's-80's. Pretty fun. I've recently seen The Big Doll House, Women in Cages and The Big Bird Cage and this popped up on my Netflix cue, and was a perfect addition.

Roger Corman, Sid Haig and Pam Grier are among those that participate in the doc, and of course it makes me want to see a lot more of the movies mentioned.

Caught it on Netflix streaming a few months ago, very fun documentary. If you haven't seen it bluetoast, the film's director, Mark Hartley, also made a very similar doc about 70's/80's "Ozploitation" movies called Not Quite Hollywood--highly recommended.

Looks like he's also making a doc about Cannon Films; looking forward to that one!

Nice, thanks for the tip! Barely know about Ozploitation, will also have to see some of those as well.

Thanks for the heads up on this doc. My wife's extended family is from the Philippines, so I'll have to check it out. After visiting there, I've always been curious to see how the Philippines looks in older films.

I still need to see this.

A local record store had the DVD used, but I forgot to pick it up

A LARGE majority of those movies takes place deep in the jungle. So if it's a city movie you're looking for, you might wanna try TNT Jackson

(Can't help sharing the poster 'cause it's so badasss)

^Actually, my most favorite moments of the doc are when Dante & Arkush are talking about the advertising for that particular flick.

Caught this at an art theater in Regina two summers ago. Really great poster.

It was really fun seeing all those clips. The one section I wished they had elaborated on a little more was the part where they claimed real corpses were sometimes used as props in some of these films (specificly APOCALYPSE NOW). It was only a thirty or so second part, with one or two very short interview clips that may have been taken out of context, so it was hard to know if I should take that seriously or not.

Whoa. I didn't even notice the background imagery in that poster. I was too busy looking at Cheri's face

While on the Apocalypse Now tip, it was cool to hear (On the Big Bird Cage commentary) that the same filming locations on Bird Cage were used on A-Now.

*Sigh* Too bad we can't get press/publicity shots like this no more...
Spoiler:

...Let alone, natural beauties to boot

No but it is on my list and would be a great title for the Drive-In Challenge here in March.

Like most here I saw it months back on... one of the movie channels like the Indie channel, or maybe the Retro channel.

It's worth seeing, I enjoyed it.

Re: Anybody else see Machete Maidens Unleashed?

Off topic but the title "the big bird cage" made me think of this. I saw a movie yrs ago as a kid about a woman who I think was blind and had some kind of cage that took her from the first to second floor of her house. A few guys and women broke in and the women was trapped in the cage while they took over her house. It was from the 60's i think. Anyone know what it was?

I watched it on Netflix a few months back. Loved it. I'm a big fan of Jack Hill's pictures made down there. And the women they got to star in the films were universally gorgeous.

Lady in A Cage with young James Caan.

And I think that think you are referring to is called an "elevator".

Yea I know it was an elevator, I just remembered it being like a cage that was out in the open, not the normal elevator that you usually see. Thanks for the title. I've wondered what it was for years.

Re: Anybody else see Machete Maidens Unleashed?

Checked out the film today. Really fun!

The little stories about 'Apocalypse Now' were pretty interesting.
