Jesus fucking Christ. You can at least make some lively commentary when you make multiple threads.

When I first heard Tom Hanks was starring in a movie called "Captain Philips", I thought it was gonna be an airline comedy. Guess not. Now the Oscar buzz makes sense.

Guess not looks like they are trying for that elusive 4,000 posts.

I heard they raped Wilson in front of everyone before shooting him.

Pulling no punches for Oscar season. Between this and The Monuments Men, this has to have been the most high profile films put out by Sony in a single year.

Just saw a special screening of this last night. It was f'n incredible. I don't get teary eyed when watching films, but at the end, the shock that Tom Hanks was in, thinking about what went on, how close to death Captain Phillips was, damn, my eyes watered up and I wanted to hug him. Tom may not get an Oscar because most Oscar winners usually get hit up around Nov & Dec (and I'm going to guess Bradley may win with American Hustler), but damnit, Hanks deserves to win. This was an incredible story, well acted, and just simply incredible. Everyone was clapping at the end of it. Best film I've seen this year, hands down.

All my money is on McConaughey winning for Dallas Buyers Club
This does look good though, looking forward to it.

The only issue I'm seeing with the trailers is that they're really humanizing the pirates. Is that how the story really was, or is it just Hollywood b.s.?

That's actually a really good point. My friend who I saw this with and I had a conversation about this. The movie really did explain why the pirates did what they did and you kind of felt pity for them. I'm going to say it's true for the fact of, the main pirate even said it, "Maybe in America, Irish" basically stating, in our land, we have no choice but to do this. They came way too far and had they come back with nothing, they probably would have been killed anyways or not been given a chance to go back out and earn money. As horrible as it is, this was their way of life, no other choices. They have bosses to report to and make happy. While America certainly has its flaws, we do have the chance to make an honest living and creating our own dreams. The guys in that land do not. Their government is corrupt, more corrupt than ours, and you will understand why they did what they did. They weren't trying to kill anyone, they just needed the money to survive and live another day.
