Sounds like INTERSTELLAR may be exactly like the region it explores: vast and awe-inspiring, but also pretty cold and empty.

Got my tickets for IMAX 70mm this Wed, but I'm concerned about reports there are sound issues affecting that specific format release. Dialogue is apparently difficult to discern.

A Christopher Nolan movie with difficult to understand dialogue ? Never heard of such a thing....

So Inception Part II, then?

I'm not all that excited for Interstellar. I thought Inception was just OK (overlong and overblown), both The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises were flawed (although I actually enjoyed TDK Rises more).

Nolan is a good filmmaker, but I'm not a huge fan.

I may catch interstellar on Blu Ray or Netflix at some point, but I'm in no rush.

Interstellar? More like Inter-less-than-stellar, am I right?

Is it just me, or does there seem to be little hype behind this movie? I am seeing very few adverts on TV for it and it seems to be very quiet at the moment. I am a Nolan fan, so sure it will be an interesting movie, but to be honest i am really not feeling all that excited about it seeing it.

http://www.gackhollywood.com/2014/10...million-sales/

The ticket sales for the upcoming space adventure have already sold out throughout the opening night weekend; it’s gotten to the point where it has been reported that 3:00am and 3:30am showings of the movie are being added in respective theaters across the country.

If you thought that was crazy, some are actually having Tuesday midnight showings and 8am Wednesday showings; 8am!!

Really? I feel like they've been running the tv ads almost non-stop for a couple of weeks now. So much so that my wife (who pays as little attention to upcoming movies as anyone I know) even expressed an interest in it.

Long article about Nolan -

Christopher Nolan: the man who rebooted the blockbuster

He is one of the few directors who can walk into a Hollywood studio with an idea and come out with $200m. So will Nolan’s latest epic, Interstellar, reinforce his reputation as the auteur who thinks big?
http://www.theguardian.com/film/2014...ed-blockbuster

Unrelated to Nolan but with regards to the studios involved, this is kind of interesting from the article -

The deal that Paramount and Warner Bros negotiated was anomalous to say the least. For the right to distribute Interstellar internationally, Warner Bros traded the rights for two of their franchises, Friday the 13th and South Park, plus “a to-be-determined A-list Warners property”, while its subsidiary, Legendary, agreed to trade Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice for a further piece of the pie.

I'd agree w/ that. Nice to see someone be able to do that. Granted.... he worked to get that power. As a period in his career, he has done so fucking well for himself in such short time. That's kind of unheard of to happen in my time.

The same could probably be said for 2001 and Solaris. Just sayin.

They're hoping that Interstellar will be this year's Gravity in terms of $$$ and Oscar-ness.

I just got back from an IMAX 70mm showing of it. It did have some sound problems, it was definitely hard to hear the dialogue at certain points (mainly when the beautiful score was blasting at full volume or there was ridiculous bass). However, it was not that distracting, it was probably 5 or 6 lines throughout the movie. Most if it was clear.

THIS IS WHY I LOVE MOVIES! Interstellar is phenomenal on so many levels. According to Letterboxd, I've only given 19 movies a perfect score, ever. Full YouTube Review (text cliffs below):

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/GUT3r1LgZ4g" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I can't stop thinking about this movie and just want to re-watch it immediately. The story is so ambitious and well-executed - I had such a range of emotions from tears to being on the edge of my seat. Zimmer's score works perfectly and the acting is fantastic all around. I can go on and on about how great this movie is, but I'd be wasting your time since you should be spending your time seeing this movie. See this on the largest screen possible, preferably 70MM IMAX, and enjoy the show!

Damn lying website said there'd be a nearby 35mm screening, only of the listed locations has the film at all today ! The good news is, there IS a 15/70 IMAX screening, so my asking for the day off was not in vain .

Got my ticket for the Air & Space IMAX on Saturday. But I also hope that Nolan does a FUCKING SMALL MOVIE again. I saw Memento about three times in theaters, and would to see him work with a small budget again.

Agreed, but after seeing what he did with so much money here I'd be fine if he kept playing in the big sandbox.

Why can't I fucking have this guy's job . You know, I kind of scoffed at the "it's a $200 million dollar art film" nonsense when critics were all gaga over Inception, thinking they'd somehow mistaken complexity for intelligence. But I must admit, if this film does well, I'll be slightly warmer towards that opinion. Anything which pays proper homage to 2001 in a mainstream film is, I admit, an impressive thing, especially if audiences turn up to see it. It's a very dark, often depressing, sometimes challenging film which is a cut above junk blockbuster fare. If it's actually as intelligent as some people think is another matter, but I still think it's ambitious, and I admire that, even if I admire the film more than I like it. And if they actually show that people are willing to pay for 35mm again, well, it might temporarily restore my faith in the human race . At least for an hour or two.

Only viewed the trailers for it but got a Kubrick 2001 vibe from it. Can't wait to see it!

Seeing this tonight in 35mm. Not feeling the drive to IMAX tonight. I'm already a bit buzzed, so no driving for me.
