I liked the movie but you can really tell they cut a lot out. I hope they do a extended cut.

It would have been awesome if QT was able to pepper in some additional guest spots from the various Django movies made over the years. It was great that he was able to get Nero, but wish a few others showed up (i.e., Terence Hill, Tomas Milian, etc.).

I wanted to kill myself 10 seconds in. Can't watch the rest. Now if she were much thinner I would brave it - since she's a tubby broad, I will pass.

That's Trisha Paytas aka Ms Limelight (from Who Wants To Be A Superhero?) aka Grindhouse Barbie (self proclaimed Quentin Tarantino fanatic). She's done a lot of small tv appearances and also played the "fat" Jessica Simpson in the Eminem music video.

I'm the 180 degree opposite of your view. I think Django Unchained is so much more re-watchable. While Zero Dark Thirty did the actual mission part to kill Bin Laden very well, I think everything before that went on far too long and could've used some tighter editing (...and a lot less shaky-cam).

Went and saw it last night, and really enjoyed it. Hard to believe there is a longer cut out there, but I'd be interested in seeing it. Even this one didn't feel too long at all. However, comparing just against another Tarantino movie, I liked Inglorious Basterds a LOT more.

BDB: I couldn't stand his character either. Was glad to see him meet his demise.

The first thing I did after the movie? Google "Mandingo fighting"

SLJ may be the best thing about Django. His intro was one of the best LOL moments I ever had in a theater. That whole intro scene was fuckin' gold.

You could drop SLJ's character into Game of Thrones and he'd fit right in without missing a beat.

Waltz wins the GG ... well deserved but I still think SLJ was even a bit better

I think Sam Jackson should've been a lock for a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Oscars.

But unfortunately the movie studio decided to push Waltz in that category.

IMO, some things just shouldn't be allowed. Waltz was in damn near every frame of a 2 hour and 40 minute film.

Put Christoph Waltz in the Best Actor category, where he belongs. There's no shame in losing to Daniel Day-Lewis.

I feel for Sam Jackson; he was just awesome in Django.

I love the geography of this shootout, it's rather small and retreated back into but well used. Along w/ the neat effects involved w/ it. Man, I love squibs. Very rarely does anything beat a squib when it comes to getting shot upon in a film. Love the camera tracking the impact that one bullet.

Fuck Snake! Now Imma have to go see it again. I love, love, LOVE when the rap track kicks in. OUt of place? Sure. But rap is all about attitude and swag and Django, at that point in the film, is full of both.

Solid Snake 01-14-13 01:12 PM

Re: Django Unchained (Tarantino, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

Yeah, when that track kicks in that whole little bit is changed.

Some people didn't like some of the tracks used in this film. The modern ones that is. I actually liked them. They had a attitude towards them that justified the accompaniment of the imagery they were with. I'm not a fan of rap but it was used very well here. The use of them took me off guard quickly. Didn't take long for me to love their use in this film. Just fit well for Django.

I really like the track by John Legend called "What did they do to you?" w/ Django doing his thing. Just fit so well.

Finally caught it. Not my favorite QT movie, and after my initial watch i would put it near the bottom, actually probably last. Something just seemed very off the whole time. The movie played like 3 stories put together, and not very well or fleshed out. Fox to me doesnt play a character, he plays himself. He doesn't embody the role like everyone else does in the movie. Honestly, i don't see how Will Smith would of been any worse. It wasn't that i didn't enjoy the music, i just thought it was pretty uninspired choices. With that said i want to give it a second chance and see if my expectations may have hindered my opinion.

Finally got to see the finished film and I have to say that I liked the 3 hour uncut version (see the last comment in the spoiler for why).

First, let's get to the cuts.. much of the violence is toned down, but I guess I'll just try to list in order where visible cuts were made. A lot of pacing was tightened up so those cuts I won't mention as they are pretty invisible. You know.. a lot of riding here and there on horseback doesn't need to be shown.

Spoiler:
1) Django's gun training. This is completely cut so now you just see Django and the snowman. King gives Django instruction on how to draw. That it's about smoothness, not quickness. The sequence was much longer.

2) Some of the bounty hunting is trimmed.

3) The mandingo fight is trimmed. Less violent.

4) The killing of D'artagnan is trimmed for violence. You see some of it in King's flashbacks.

5) Django's torture. Trimmed for his cock. Also, we don't see them thrown King's body in the same room. Billy Crash has more words with Django prior to heating up the knife to castrate him. Also flicks his dick with the knife and camera shots are trimmed.

And what was added...

At the end when Django and Hildy ride away from the blown up Candieland, the scene with King telling Django he's the fastest gun in the South is added as flashback. I really hated this part and like the ending without it. QT should have left it in with the training. It just seemed tacked on.

I hope the 3 hour cut makes it to Blu...

It was the "test" cut of the movie that made the rounds prior to release. They do that with most movies (Tarantino is no exception, originally they were going to make cuts to Kill Bill Vol 2 but due to a great response, Weinstein basically discarded the comment cards.)

This is a movie with a lot of footage that is obviously missing, the pacing is very strong in the final cut but it does feel a bit jarring in spots. I hope Tarantino immediately does his Director's Cut instead of letting it sit on the shelf for a decade.

Sounds like some great stuff. I'm all for some more character stuff. Hope an uncut happens this year.
