Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread
Surprised Watts went for the sexualized angle since she is not a bimbo (I Heart Huckabees might be a similar sexualized role) and a serious dramatic actress or that is what the role called for and went full in.

It was not horrible but it could have been a lot better. Sarsgaard stole the movie.

I don't know what was worse the acting or the fucking
Maybe John Derek the director got off seeing other dudes make out with his hot wife.

Maybe pair this with Boy Erased and you can have a gay conversion double feature though Boy Erased was much better than this with no wooden acting from Chloe Moretz.
Peter Gallagher should have had more scenes in this movie

I see your point, but again, I respectfully disagree. I still love the original, but I was just surprised by how much I liked the "remake". Both are great movies in my mind...but I get what you are saying...Didn't mean to offend...

Death Race: Beyond anarchy (2018)
Completely stupid and bad. A little better than the previous one but that's not saying much. Waste of money and time.

Annihilation (2018)
Big disapointment for me. I had heard good things about it and loved Alex Garland's previous film (Ex-Machina) and his scripts for Danny Boyle but here the big suspense is a let down and tha characters are not interesting.

Never Let Me Go (2010)
While reading about Alex Garland I noticed I had this film in my to-watch pile with one of his scifi-ish script. Love story set against a scifi background. Nice ideas but still a love story so not my cup of tea. It was fun seeing Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield, Domnhall Gleeson & Kiera Knightley when they were really young (they still are but here they look like teeagers)
Children are brought up in a special school in a distopian England and soon learn they are clones raised to be used as organ donors for the rest of society.

Snow Whitte and the Huntsman (2012)
The Huntsman's Winter War (2016)
First one is a well done retelling of the well-known tale but impaired by Stewart's acting. The second is a notch or three below quality-wise but still watchable in the fairy tale bin.

La règle du jeu (1939)
Nice and rather mean Jean Renoir comedy/satire of love and friendship in the bourgeois milieus. Politically incorrect in the way relationships are portrayed and it would probably cause a scandal nowadays but its very on the dot I thought on its criticism of superficiality and image.
A bunch of bourgeois and their retenue have all sorts of ups and down love games at a hunting weekend in the countryside.

Patient Zero (2018)
Yet another lame low-budget zombie film. Reminded me of a few Corman 80s exploitations with a group of people living in secret underground shelter and facing a monster that got inside somehow. Stars Matt Smith (my least favorite of recent Doctor Who actors) and surprisingly Stanley Tucci who surely doesn't need that?

Remo Williams (1985)
Rather bad 80s franchise to-be that never made it past this first installment. I know its cultish but I hadn't liked it in the 80s when it came out and didn't this time around either. Humour is not great, plot is silly and main character is uninteresting.

Doctor Who: Image of the Fendahl (1977)
Doctor Who: The Rescue (1965)
What can I say, I love the rubber suit monsters, the shaky cardboard sets and the overacting. No accounting for taste!

Upside Down (2013)
Another love story set against a scifi background. A few good ideas but the treatment is rather tacky and heavy-handed and it got on my nerves rapidly.
In a dual world with two distinct gravities (upstairs and down) a young man and woman from opposite backgrounds and cities fall in love and will go against everyone and eveyrthing to live their happiness.

A good doc that aired on A&E last night though they edited the nude photos and I should have rented the Blu-ray but did not know it was available.
Spoiler:
I hope Jonah Hill directs more movies.
It was not that bad considering most of the characters were douches.

Overlord (2018) — Well made war-horror flick with some great one-shot like scenes and some good performances from the cast. The tension was fairly consistent from the bombastic opening sequence to the very end. 4.0/5

Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) — Well made bio-pic that works mainly for Rami Malek's transformative performance rather than the story or direction (from Bryan Singer), which lacked energy. I probably prefer A Star is Born over this but even that one was hardly perfect either. 3.75/5
The Cloverfield Paradox (2018) — Have to think this was some rejected script from Star Trek Discovery. Some okay moments here and there but I can see why this dumped off to Netflix. Such a big drop from the well done Cloverfield and the incredible 10 Cloverfield Lane. I can't say The Cloverfield Paradox was terrible but so many stupid moments. 2.0/5

Much better than the 39% audience score at rotten tomatoes.
It would be nice if this got released on Blu-ray someday.
I would not mind being in a Heather Graham & Marisa Tomei sandwich.
