Usually not a fan of teen movies but this one is a home run in my book. Everyone was spot on. Stiles and Ledger were great.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Depression and OCD fucking suck. God, I wish I had more passion about life and less intrusive thoughts distracting me and could actually enjoy watching things and living again.

The Hateful Eight- Claustrophobic, tense, knotty, and surprisingly politically charged The Hateful Eight is Tarantino's best film since Jackie Brown. Long, languid, and moody, it finds QT wedding his penchant for racially-charged dialogue and violence to a darkly political undercurrent in the plot. Slower than his usual rapid-fire dialogue, some fans may be disappointed if they're hoping for the nonstop explosive violence and profanity of his earlier work, but there's a subtle maturity to the film that gives a nice edge. Phenomenal performances all around, and as the last movie that'll ever get a major release on celluloid, Robert Richardson's Oscar-worthy 70mm Ultra Panavision cinematography is visually stunning and makes immensely creative use of its small setting. Be patient with it, and it will reward you.

The LEGO Batman Movie- Though the message for kids is perhaps a touch ham-fisted, the ultra postmodern references to the whole Batman mythology are immense fun for the older set, and like it's predecessor, it use of colorful and zany visuals is frequently imaginative. Will Arnett has lots of fun as the lighten-up Caped Crusader, and the film is silly, zippy fun with a lot of very funny jokes and cool visuals.

The Fate of the Furious- More of same. A comedown after the over-the-top mayhem of the last three installments-maybe I'm just getting used to it-F8 still has plenty of fun to be had, from Charlize Theron as the super-hacker villain to the chemistry between the cast that's been the franchise's ace in the hole since Justin Lin reinvented it for #5. Jason Statham proves a surprisingly adept comic actor, and if the plot makes little sense, well hey, who cares, it never does, and that doesn't stop it's manic action sequences from being as entertaining as usual.

John Wick, Chapter 2- Subscribing to the tequila principle-if a little is good, more must be better-the turbo-charged sequel to the surprise cult hit is indeed more of the same, but amped up with a much larger budget. In this case though, that's just fine; a film with no delusions about what it is that wishes only to entertain with wild action, a few quotable one-liners, and some glossy cinematography, it does exactly that. A total blast.

Alien: Covenant- Blatantly obvious twist ending aside, Ridley Scott significantly improves upon Prometheus with this sequel, featuring more creature action, a superb dual performance from Michael Fassbender, and some solid effects work. Unfortunately, we're still stuck with moronic slasher victims as the the human characters who's actions too often service the plot rather than common sense. Still, seeing Scott return to the franchise he created and one of the greatest creatures in all of cinema does have more than enough charms to recommend it, even if the pieces are more satisfying than the whole.

Dr. Strange. Watched with my cool 83 year-old pop. We thought the film was fun/entertaining. On the plate for our next visit: Life (Jake Gyllenhaal).

The Great Wall (2017)

Stayed up until 2am watching this last night. I thought it was a fun monster fantasy movie set in period China. Some really solid visuals and directing by Zhang Yimou.

Netflix -Bruno and Boots: This Can't Be Happening.
Surprisingly fun film, and a super safe family film.

Netflix - Moana.
Watched to the end and rewarded with the crab stinger. Stunning film..would watch again and it was so good I stayed away from surfing on my iPad while watching.

Get Out - I was a bit underwhelmed with this after hearing about how good it was. It was okay, just not as good as the hype. For such an absurd plot, they should have dialed everything up to 11. But the humor, the horror, the violence... it all felt too mild.

Traitor

Maybe it never reached a big audience but it still holds up after a second viewing.

Used an Xfinity $5.99 coupon to rent Power Rangers in HD. I enjoyed the heck out of this film...just a fun film that may pick up quite the audience on home video.

If you are a Calvin and Hobbes fan this is a must watch.

This was a strange movie and a lot of painful unpleasant scenes. The lead character is not very likeable and before watching the movie you might think you are totally on her side.

Be ready for subtitles.

I watched Beauty and the Beast (2017) today. I liked the animated original much better. The live action version is basically a shot for shot remake with a couple new songs and characters added in... 3.5/5

The Evil Dead (1981)
Evil Dead 2 (1987)

Local theater had a Double Feature. It was great seeing these films in a theater!

Hey!

I just watched "Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2" and I must say it was awesome. Maybe it wasn't better than the first part (sequels usually aren't), but I liked it anyway.

Baby Groot is the cutest and Starlord is funny as always. I would recommend it to anyone who has some time to spare and would like to watch something funny and packed with action.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

All of the animated Disney movies beat the Live Action films. Disney is lazy and can't come up with new original ideas.

This was probably less offensive compared to the 1915 version.

Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014)

After re-watching this film, I definitely enjoy it a bit more than The Last Knight (2017).

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Elle is so memorable because everybody is so fucking awful in it. That and her acting was fantastic, but still just terrible people all around.

I just saw Baby Driver, really liked it, and while I had initial concerns from the ads that it wouldn't be a true Edgar Wright movie (they looked fine but just not, you know, him), it most certainly was. Quirky, fun, with some unexpected violence (despite it being a trademark of literally all his movies) and a beat all its own.
