This seriously needs a BD release.
there's a german blu-ray...can't find a review for it though.

^ I couldn't either. I thought I'd read somewhere that those German Bronson BDs are 1080i/50hz, so I didn't want to chance it. I've got a nice 720p rip that'll do for... well, probably forever if I can't get that German BD.

The History of Future Folk - They shot a lot of this film on my block, so I went to check it out and really enjoyed it. About time a polished looking and sounding indie came out of Williamsburg. Fun sci-fi light plot with O Brother, Where Art Though-styled folk tunes about being aliens. A great reprieve from the summer 'splosions.

Easy Riders, Raging Bulls

Great documentary based on the Biskind book, exploring the explosion of 70's American cinema, capturing the maverick independent spirit as it evolves into the eventual studio system mega co-op. Featuring everyone from Hopper, Rafelson, Coppola, Scorsese, Altman, Peckinpah, Friedkin, Bogdonovich, Lucas, Spielberg etc.

If you're a fan of this fantastic era, this is a must see. Contains some amazing archival footage of these young wunderkinds stepping into the breach for the first time.

The First Time: Very enjoyable teen romantic comedy-drama. Explores the emotions and shit kids go through with sex and first love. Really liked the performances by Dylan O'Brien and Britt Robertson.

Re: Last movie you watched

5 Fingers, an old 40s spy film from Joseph L. Mankiewicz, my first of the noteworthy director's films. It's unavailable on DVD in the US for some weird reason, but you can get on DVD from South Korean and France. I don't know know why. I DVRed it off of FMC back before it became FXM. One might think its reputation comes from its lack of availability, but it's really a crackerjack spy movie with a deliciously cynical edge, even by today's standards. James Mason is terrific in the central role as the traitorous spy selling secrets to the Germans. Even in the cynical age of today, the sucker-punch ending is gleefully nihilistic. Recommended.

The Blood On Satan's Claw has a great title, but that's about it. A jumbled narrative about Satanism of some sort, with an impenetrable plot apparently cut down from a proposed trilogy, and it shows. Some nice period detail.

Hidden Agenda - 4/5

Two American attorneys investigating human rights violations by the British in Northern Ireland come across a conspiracy when one of them is murdered. Very good political thriller.

The Hangover Part III

I liked it but it sure was not a comedy like the first one. A little too much Chow and Alan, but it reaaly was all about Alan. Good end to the series though.

That would be pretty cool, but the movie itself is a 5/5? Really?

Damn, I'd better get in line.

Killer Joe (2011)

So happy to see Friedkin deliver a solid film again. The performances here are top-notch all around. I can't really single any one actor out, but Juno Temple is someone I'd never seen before and I want to see more of her now. And, no, not in that way. I already saw plenty of that in the film. Great WTF scene with a KFC chicken leg, too. And that ending was ballsy.

Re: Last movie you watched

'The Horseman' - i really like a revenge movie that has the guts to tell the story without pussing out. The lead makes the film. Solid film.

'It's a Disaster' - this was terrific. I had such a blast watching this. Great writing.

'Take Shelter' - third time. It's a masterpiece.

'The Battery' - I had been looking forward to this. Not a great film as such, but an interesting zombie film. I'm always interested in someone doing interesting work on a shoestring budget.

'Between Two Worlds' aka 'Caught Between Two Worlds' - a classic, but I prefer the original 'Outward Bound' as it's a better film. Both are adaptations of the same play.

Blade 2 - A classic.

Young Adult - hysterical and uncomfortable to watch. The only script I give Diablo Cody a pass on.
