Re: Last movie you watched

Just Before Dawn - Maybe it's because I've seen more than my fair share of mediocre slashers in the last decade, but this movie is a heck of a lot better than I gave it credit for when I first watched it. A little slow, but good atmosphere and a competent cast. Jeff Lieberman has only made a handful of movies, but I've enjoyed every one of them.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - Great!

Cockneys vs. Zombies - Meh.

Out of the Blue - 4/5

After her alcoholic father is released from prison for crashing his truck into a school bus, a rebellious teenager hopes that her family life will get better, but instead it only get worse. Dennis Hopper's third directorial effort is a bleak film about the disintegration of the family and features a great performance from Linda Manz.

Transcendence - 1/5

Boring with no redeeming qualities. Johnny Depp was completely one-note in this (although I guess that was the intent), the plot was just ridiculous and absurd in every aspect and I kept questioning a lot of the stupidity along the way.

The Severed Arm (1973)

Not nearly as bad as reviews said it was. Had some fun death scenes.

The Rock-Michael Bay 4/5

The Rock is the closest Michael Bay has ever and likely will ever come to a great movie.

Cheap Thrills (2013)

Not since 1998's Very Bad Things have I enjoyed a Dark Comedy this much. I'm glad I took the time out to finally check this one out.

^ How bizarre that I came here to post that I'd just watched the same movie!

I concur with asianxcore's sentiments, although I don't know if I'd characterize it as a dark comedy. Dark, yes; comedy...I'm not so sure (although there are some laugh-out-loud moments).

I REALLY dug it, but it's one of those films (think AUDITION) that I can only recommend to a few die-hard film buff friends. Those who have movies on as background noise aren't going to like this one at all.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

Out of town on business so I thought I'd kill some time instead of sitting in the hotel room. Not a real fan of this series. Obviously the effects are 4 generations better than the original but the plot just stays the same. Apes and humans fighting for the earth. Love Keri Russell so that made the time tolerable. I know I'm in the minority but I give it a C+

Spoiler:
The video camera still had juice in the battery after 10 years? Boy those apes were damn good shots for just having picked up an automatic rifle for the first time.

I "tried" to watch Dead in Tombstone...what a waist of some B movie talent. Horribly acted, paced, and filmed. AND I believe someone here recommended it.

Napoleon Dynamite. My wife had never seen it, so she figured it was finally time... 10 years later. Some things about it still hold up... but I was never overly obsessed like a lot of people were at the time.

The Art of the Steal - I had never heard of this before but reading that it was a heist comedy starring Kurt Russell was enough to sell me. Great supporting cast as well. Matt Dillon, Jay Baruchel, Terrence Stamp, and Jason Jones were all fantastic. It had a decent amount of laugh out loud moments and was a pretty clever story - think Ocean's 11 lite.

Blood Ties - 3/5

Entertaining although cliched film about two brothers, the younger one a dedicated NYPD detective and the older a criminal. When the older brother is released from prison he tries to go straight. After giving it a try and failing to make ends meet, he starts to fall back into his old ways. Contained some great moments that reminded me of some 70's Lumet & Friedkin. Good performances from Clive Owen and Matthias Schoenaerts (his American debut). With the talent involved it should have been a better film.

Drop Dead Gorgeous - I love it. Buzzfeed (yeah, I know) had a super long article about it yesterday. I had no idea the DVD was out of print. Good thing I still have mine. This flick needs a Blu-ray release.

In 35mm!

Beat up print, but a great experience. That famous set of notes would make a great ringtone.
