Amazon Digital rental or if you have AMC+ you can watch it there

"Forced to drive a mysterious passenger at gunpoint, a man finds himself in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse where nothing is as it seems."

The final movie I saw in 2023

It was not great but a nice way to kill time and it all happens at night which I like and some scenes shot in Vegas in the beginning of the film which is cool.

If you think Cage might be becoming a little too normal or sane in his last couple of movies he comes back with a unhinged character and losing his shit in several scenes.

I own this

I liked it back in 2007 and still do in 2024.

Cronenberg and Viggo always do great work together.

Naomi Watts is great too.

Too bad the plans for a sequel did not come through

I hope Armin Mueller-Stahl at age 93 is doing ok and probably might not have appeared in the sequel.

I own this

I remember NBC use to air this in primetime but not anymore and I thought it was a Xmas classic or one of the more beloved Xmas movies but it did not get great reviews.

I think it could be more of a nightmare where you worked at a high paying job in NY, drive a expensive sports car, and get to nail beautiful escorts nightly but then up a common schlub selling tires and changing diapers.

If Freida Pinto was not in it I would have bailed

I did not know the young girl was played by Helena Zengel who was Tom Hanks co-star in News of the World.

I thought it would be kind of cheesy but it was entertaining and learned something about a story I never knew about.

The Hitcher (2007)

I had not watched this movie probably since 2008 or 2009 when I initially got the DVD. I don't think this was ever released on Region 1 Blu-Ray. I still have my DVD and popped it in last night. That's why you don't get rid of some of your movies haphazardly. And there are quite a few special features on the DVD that you won't have access to on digital.

Anyway, I know this movie got terrible reviews, but I had fun revisiting it again. Sean Bean was a great psychopath. And I totally forgot that Zachary Knighton, currently on Magnum PI, was on this. He was kind of a poor man's Jared Padalecki back then. He was super young. I did remember Sophia Bush was in it.

Saltburn - I haven't completely decided yet, but I think I hated it. It's memorable, at least, so there's that.

Indecent Proposal Amazon Prime 4K
Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson. Directed by Adrian Lyne. 1993
An ambitious but cash-strapped married couple has a chance encounter with a billionaire, who offers one million dollars to spend one night with the wife.

Another one of those "big deal" films I never got around to watching. This was another Adrian Lyne film, -just like "Fatal Attraction", -that got into the public zeitgeist; the concept generated a lot of "water cooler" talk back when that was a thing. Adrian Lyne can certainly make a pretty film with pretty people, -he even makes Woody Harrelson look stylish. However, at the end of the day, it's a Romantic Fantasy. Once it gets past the high concept, -the million-dollar proposal and the (wisely undetailed) night involved, -it pretty much runs out of gas and sputters along to the ending I was pretty much predicting from the first scene.
I don't know how this compares to the 4K disc, but this stream was grainier than I expected; I don't mind grain at all, but this looked more "noisy" than natural.

Starz

Follows a New York City family hiding out in the Hamptons whose bubble is popped when a Bloody Mary-swilling, pot-smoking "Charlie" comes to bring a lifetime of hurt that might heal them all.

If you are looking for Uncle Buck but set during the pandemic this is for you.

It had some laughs though the Adam Pally character could probably get on some peoples nerves.

While playing minor league baseball in Texas, Carlton Garrett (Justin Timberlake) receives word from his grandfather (Harry Dean Stanton) that his mother, Katherine (Mary Steenburgen), needs a life-saving operation. When Garrett reaches the hospital, his mother refuses to undergo the surgery until Kyle (Jeff Bridges) -- Garrett's estranged, former-baseball star father -- is present. Garrett then travels to Ohio with his pal Lucy (Kate Mara) to convince his unreliable father to return home.

It was not as bad as the reviews but kind of forgettable

"Motivations are suspect, and expectations are turned upside down, as a con artist takes on Manhattan billionaires."

It got average reviews but I liked this a lot and one of the better movies I have seen recently

Terminal Island (1973)

Stephanie Rothman directed a few of my favorite low-budget 70s exploitation flicks (The Student Nurses, The Velvet Vampire) including this one. Convicts are assigned to an island off the coast of California to serve out their sentences for the remainder of their lives. There is a strict male-dominated hierarchy within the group - with women being treated as property. A smaller faction has broken off and rebelled, threatening to upset the status quo. Always enjoy seeing Phyllis Davis in anything 70s related. Also cool to see Tom Selleck and Roger E. Mosley together over half a decade before Magnum P.I. hit the airwaves. An enjoyable flick if you're in the mood. Vinegar Syndrome did a nice job with their blu-ray here.

The Goonies - Tubi

I have never seen this beloved film, and now I can appreciate it. Sloth is indeed awesome.

The thing I remember about The Goonies is that I had a chance to watch it at the Van Nuys, CA drive-in theater way back in the day with my friend whose Mom moved movie reels from one theater to another. It was the choice of audio in the car for this film or Lifeforce, and I get that some folks will says I did not choose wisely due to The Goonies being a much more beloved film with folks around my age, but even without knowing that a gorgeous woman would spend over half the film in her birthday suit, there was something that sounded exciting about Lifeforce that had me more interested.

For many decades I would read stuff on-line, and occasionally hear conversations about this film at conventions I attended, and it airs on cable all the time, but I just never sat down to watch all the way through. I am glad that I did, great cast, even some nice special effects (practical) and it ends well enough that I can see why folks do not rage against the fact that there was never a The Goonies 2, kind-of a blind-spot film that I finally caught up on (just like Close Encounters, which I only saw all the way through just a small number of years back). I already noted that I considered The Howling a blind-spot film, because I had seen so many clips and read so much about the film that it is amazing it took me this long to finally watch the film. Better late than never.

Criterion. Documentary on George Harrison's Handmade films. Lots of clips from great movies. As usual a little too much talking heads. Interesting that it got taken down by the creative vs. money feuds it was meant to replace. Criterion has a dozen or so of their movies available too.
