The Momster Squad - UHD. Such a wonderful film.
Wolfman’s Got Nards - Blu Ray. First watch of this great documentary, a must watch for fans of the film, and some cool making-of footage of the film.

ETA: I think you can see the doc for free with ads on Tubi.

Boarding Gate (2007) — Decent enough drama-thriller that could've greatly been tightened up if the two dialogue-heavy scenes between Argento and Madsen were reduced (and were really redundant anyway). But after that, I thought it had its moments and Argento for her part was great. This is the type of movie that could be remade and done better. ***/***** (DVD)

Suspect Zero (2004) — Don't remember when I last saw this, but probably was when it was released on DVD. So this is my second viewing and don't remember a whole lot but my rating pretty remained the same. It's unnecessarily confusing but worse, rather dull for the bulk with good actors like Aaron Eckhart and Ben Kingsley not being able to breathe life into boring script. Had potential perhaps under a more experienced director but as it is, this is one I won't revisit for a third time... **/***** (4K Ultra HD)

Room For One More - a 1952 comedy-drama starring Cary Grant and his then-wife Betsy Drake as a married couple with three children who take in two foster children with troubled backgrounds. The wife is a tender-hearted soul who wants to help everyone. The husband is more reluctant about taking on the burden of the two foster children, but beneath a gruff exterior he is also a softie. This is very much an early 50s family comedy and a lot of the humor might be seen as quaint or even cringey today. It becomes a bit less jokey and more dramatic as the story moves forward. The foster kids give them some trouble, but they all eventually win each others' trust and it is ultimately an uplifting story. Cary Grant is charming as always, and Betsy Drake is great as the gently resolute mother of the family. The kid actors are all good--especially the two foster kids. The youngest of the biological children is pretty funny, though it sounds like his lines were dubbed to give him a more comical voice.

A Few Good Men AMC+ 4K
Tom Cruise. Directed by Rob Reiner. 1992
A brash Navy lawyer and a gung-ho litigator are charged with defending two Marines accused of killing a fellow soldier.

The PQ on this stream was surprisingly good on my set-up. I came into this film with some ambivalence, because I think Tom Cruise brings a bit too much energy to playing the asshole in the first part of the film; I just find him obnoxious at the start, though he really pulls off the sincere, redemptive scenes. This was the last of a strong streak of films from Director Rob Reiner.

Criterion. Toni Collette, Parker Posey, Lisa Kudrow and Alanna Ubachare are temps working in anonymous office. Good supporting cast especially Helen FitzGerald. It starts out a fun comedy as they bond, since none of the permanent employees will talk to them. Changes tone as the inevitable boredom and frustration sets in. Very relatable if you've ever worked in an office at a big company

When Evil Lurks AMC+/Shudder Sub-Titled
Directed by Demian Rugna. 2023.

In a remote village, two brothers find a demon-infected man just about to give birth to evil itself. They decide to get rid of the man but merely succeed in helping him to deliver the inferno.

Wow ...this is one effed-up movie. Watching it, I feel like I missed the first reel. The film just drops you into a situation that comes with a lot of backstory, and they only give it to you in small doses. They speak of "the possessed", and "rottens" and folklore in a very matter-of-fact Everyday way, and it's all a little disorienting. But it works, for the most part -I just kept watching to see what repulsive or horrific image they'd throw at me next. There are some legit "jumps" in this that got an audible reaction from me. This is definitely a movie that wants you to test you.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Over the last few nights I re-watched both Godzilla (2014) and KotM. I hadn't seen either in at least a few years. Enjoyed both. I think I liked the first more this time around than what I remember from watching it at release. Still patiently waiting for a digital release of Minus One.

One of my favorite movies and this is the time of year to chill out. I always laugh watching it. The Coen Brothers would never be so one note and it's a stretch seeing The Dude as Philip Marlowe but I like watching it as a parody/homage to The Big Sleep. That In'n'Out near Radford is actually pretty good.

Kiss Me, Stupid FreeVee
Dean Martin. Directed by Billy Wilder. 1964
A jealous piano teacher Orville Spooner sends his beautiful wife, Zelda, away for the night while he tries to sell a song to a famous nightclub singer Dino, who is stranded in town.

This is the one Billy Wilder film, -written with long-time partner IAL Diamond, -that I hadn't seen. It's one of their less-revered films, though it had a very risqué reputation back in the day. It's dated, sure, but Wilder and Diamond knew their way around a "Bedroom Farce" and this one takes some chances for its time. It's fun to see Dean Martin playing a cartoon version of his stage persona, but I can't help wondering if Jack Lemmon would have been more sympathetic than Ray Walston in a role that seems written for Jack Lemmon.

Leave The World Behind - I had low low expectations for this movie BUT it was good! In fact, it was kinda frightening due to the current sitch we are in and the plausibility. Julia was annoying but might have been her character.

Bah Humbug. I've already seen my redemptive Christmas movie. It plucks those heartstrings but never been a Paul Giamatti fan. Although I like the sub text that one can't understand today without understanding yesterday which 90% of the American public seems to have forgotten.

Finally streamed this on Peacock last night. I give it three stars. There is absolutely zero reason for it to be called Exorcist: Believer other than to use the title of the classic film. If you cut Chris' fifteen seconds and the cameo at the end out nothing would be lost.

I am sure that the plan (if it there was one and they weren't just winging it) would have the second and third films use Chris' character more and deal with the girl dying at the end. But since the director is apparently out and problems with the actor who played the father they are going a different way it seems. Plus Burstyn's age would make it pretty silly to plan on her for a second and third film. The film wasn't as bad as the Halloween trilogy but it is just a middle of the road exorcism film which there have been many over the years. The Exorcist and The Exorcist III are still all that is needed in the franchise.

Also, at least kept with all legacy characters having to have lead miserable lives since the last film they were in.

The Crimson Rivers Kino Lorber Blu-Ray
Jean Reno, Vincent Cassel. Directed by Mathieu Kassovitz. 2000
Veteran cop Pierre Niemans is sent to Guernon to investigate a bizarre murder near a legendary private school isolated in the Alps, while young cop Max Kerkerian is led to the same case from a different direction.

This is a very slick, stylish Police Thriller in the style of 90s American hits like "Basic Instinct" (minus the sex),"Black Rain", and the "Lethal Weapon" films. The producers admit in a bonus documentary that they put the film's momentum ahead of the plot's clarity. The film is visually compelling with chases and gunfights and gory crime scenes, though the plot and its solution is a bit esoteric. Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel both shine individually and as a Buddy-Cop duo. The film is presented with both an English dub and the original French with subtitles.
