Child’s Play 3- this one is okay. Some decent moments but overall a step down from the first two. Not the biggest fan of the military school aspect really. The ending sequence at the carnival is okay but feels somewhat out of place with the rest of the movie.

Maggie Moore(s) Screen Media Blu-Ray
John Hamm, Tina Fey. Directed by John Slattery 2023
Police Chief Sanders investigates the bizarre murders of two women with the same name, and unravels a web of small-town lies. He meets and quickly falls for Rita, a nosy neighbor who is eager to help solve the mystery.
This is another "shaggy dog" Crime story, as much about its off-beat characters as it is about the story. "Fargo" immediately comes to mind, but there have been plenty since then. The movie takes a lot of pride in its eccentricity. The characters are well-developed, the performances are fine, but the whole thing proceeds at a rather leisurely pace.
I saw that in June
It did not get a lot of PR so maybe they did not have a lot of faith in it?

I like the scenes with Travolta, Christopher Plummer, and Tye Sheridan acting as a family but the rest was just meh
It is not saying much but this might be the closest thing Travolta has done to being or appearing in a semi-good movie in the 2000's.

Maybe the ending was a little disappointing but I liked the tone and mood of the movie.

Final Cut Hoopla
Romain Duris, Berenice Bejo. Directed by Michel Hazanavicius 2023
A director of commercial and promotional films gets his shot at re-making a Japanese Zombie hit for French Television.
Michel Hazanavicius got a lot of attention with "The Artist", a 2011 silent film that eventually won the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. I really enjoyed the film, and I'm going to have to re-visit it one of these days; I also enjoyed his spy spoof "OSS 117". However, I kind of just lost track of the director and his projects. I really didn't expect to find him re-making "One Cut For The Dead", a Japanese Zombie film about the making of a Japanese Zombie film. The first half-hour feels rather clumsy but that's by intention, and after a certain point the tone changes and the characters become more developed. Overall, its a decent mix of broad, occasionally vulgar comedy interspersed with moments of warmth. It sort of feels like the work Kevin Smith's been turning out for the last few years

Elemental Disney+
Directed by Peter Sohn. 2023
In a city where fire, water, land, and air residents live together, a fiery young woman and a go-with-the-flow guy will discover something elemental: How much they have in common.
I've always been a fan of Pixar, though some of their films more than others. "Soul" was the first thing I watched when I finally signed up for Disney+, and I ended up buying the 4K. "Lightyear" I saw in the theater, and I found it a letdown, -this wasn't a film "Andy" ever saw and loved. "Elemental" turned out to be a mixed bag for me. Of course, it's visually stunning and endlessly inventive. With Disney's budget, and Pixar's creativity, I would expect nothing less. I just found the story under this fantastic conceit to be pretty much by the numbers, which I guess for some is the charm of a Rom-Com. More importantly, I found "Wade" to be a whimpering mess, while in tiresome Disney fashion "Ember" had enough testosterone for both of them.

Bride of Chucky- I like this one but truth be told I do prefer the earlier entries in the series. Hadn’t seen all of this one for quite a while. I do like Chucky’s look and the addition of Jennifer Tilly as Tiffany.
The franchise is ridiculous from the get go but this one really takes it to the next level. Still I know it’s better than Seed of Chucky which I’ll be watching next.

Children of the Corn Shudder
Written/Directed by Kurt Wimmer 2020
The film describes the events leading up to, and including, the massacre of the adults of a small town in Nebraska by their children, after the adults' irresponsibility ruins the crop and the children's future.
I was a fan of Kurt Wimmer's 2002 debut film "Equilibrium", a Dystopian SF story with Christian Bale that featured the kind of "Gun Fu" that "John Wick" would immortalize over 10 years later. However, after his second film ("Ultraviolet") was taken away from him, Wimmer went back to scripting films like "Law Abiding Citizen" and "Salt". So, I wanted to like this 33rd installment in the "Children of the Corn" franchise, but it just didn't grab me. The story is nicely grounded, -there's more motivation than in the original, -but the pacing is clunky. And for all the gore, -and there's a very "Shudder-ish" level of gore, -the actress playing the cult leader isn't very threatening; she just seems bratty and temperamental. At least they gave us a cornfield monster that the original denied us, though I'm sure that many will find it as lame as the cloud-tank creature that was briefly used in the original.

Cobweb Lionsgate Blu-Ray
Lizzy Caplan, Antony Starr. Directed by Samuel Bodin 2023
An anxious, bullied young boy hears a whispery voice in the night that warns him of danger, and provokes him to protect himself.
This is a "Halloween" story that reminds me of Michael Dougherty's "Trick 'r' Treat", and maybe just a little of "The Black Phone". Samuel Bodin really wants to tell you a Horror story. This film has gorgeous, evocative cinematography and the director has a real eye for composition. If Blumhouse owned the script for "The Babadook", this is the film you'd have gotten.

Dr. Giggles FreeVee
Larry Drake. Directed by Manny Coto 1992
The psychopathic son of a mass-murdering doctor, escapes from his mental institution to seek revenge on the town where his father was caught. The giggling doctor kills his victims with a surgical theme.
Ho-hum attempt by Dark Horse (Comics) to create a Horror Film "Franchise" character. It's just not flamboyant or stylish enough to get much of a reaction. I seem to recall the director thought his gory kill scenes would sell the film to the fans, but the MPAA demanded extensive cuts (to get an "R" rating) that left them toothless.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993) — Really good and well-made animation movie and one of the best Batman feature films. Kevin Conroy was of course amazing, and Dana Delaney leant some wonderful emotion while Mark Hamill was gleefully maniacal as always as The Joker. Kind of wish some elements of this would be implemented into a live action movie, maybe even Matt Reeves' sequel. In any case, I've seen this one several times and still is entertaining as ever. ****¼/***** (4K Ultra HD)

Frankenstein (1931)- I’ve meant to watch some of the Universal Monster movies so started with this one. Pretty good movie and I can see why it’s a classic. The design of the Monster is of course iconic.
The Phantom of the Opera (1925)- not often that I watch a silent movie. Definitely different than I’m used to but it’s an interesting movie. The Phantom is a creepy character.
