HBO
I wish HBO would put out more original films since they did a lot of good stuff in the past.
Definitely worth a watch

Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb
Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread
I saw this in the theater. I was surprised when the movie began with a lot of on-screen titles setting up the premise; that, and the short run-time, seems to suggest this was probably heavily edited after some test screenings. The trailers set me up to expect more of an intense Action Thriller with Driver on the run from a T-Rex. It played out more like the Obi Wan series on Disney+ (and not in a good way), or any story where the adult is paired on an adventure with a precocious youngster.

Alice, Darling Lion's Gate Blu-Ray
Anna Kendrick
A young woman trapped in an abusive relationship becomes the unwitting participant in an intervention staged by her two closest friends.
Somehow, -when I borrowed this from the County Library, I was under the impression that this was more of a Thriller. However, this film is subtle, -very subtle, -and just way too subtle for me.

.com for Murder Arrow Blu-Ray
Nastassja Kinski, Nicolette Sheridan. Directed by Nico Mastorakis. 2002
A woman suspects that the person she encountered in an Internet Chat Room is a killer.
This film, on the other hand, is not subtle. This plays like any number of Direct-To-Video Stalker/Slasher Thrillers from the '90s (yet made ten years later). The actresses and the supporting cast are charismatic but the villain is a disappointment, -I've seen this character too many times before. The film really needed a scene-stealing actor in the role.
Arrow provides their usual impressive package of bonus materials

Amazon Prime
It says it is a 2022 movie but it was made in 2013 which explains why Lili Reinhardt looked so young.

MGM+ Marquee
Milo did this in his slow period after Heroes ended and before This is Us would come out 2 years later.
Maybe he is one of those guys that is better suited for TV and not a movie career.

Peacock
It started out as a crime drama and then became a horror movie.

Champions Universal Blu-ray
Woody Harrelson, Kaitlin Olson. Directed by Bobby Farrelly. 2023
A former minor-league basketball coach is ordered by the court to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities. He soon realizes that despite his doubts, together, this team can go further than they ever imagined.
Extremely predictible "Feel Good" Comedy, but if you let your guard down, it can be charming now and again. Helped immeasurably by Harrelson and Olson, who get a rare opportunity to portray characters with some warmth.

A pleasant surprise Peter Sarsgaard and Vera Farmiga were in this though she was hysterical for most of the movie.

Rented Beautiful Disaster off Red Box digital for like 99 cents with a coupon. It's a super small Indie movie that takes place in Northern California and Las Vegas, but filmed entirely in Bulgaria

Stars Viriginia Gardner from Fall and Dylan Sprouse who is the twin brother of Cole Sprouse from Riverdale. It's from the director of Cruel Intentions and based on a book.
It's about a former Poker prodigy who is going to college and trying to put that life behind her and meets and falls in love with another student who is also an underground MMA fighter. It's one of those opposites attract comedies.
I kind of liked it even though it's gotten mostly bad reviews. Some funny and cute moments. Virginia Gardner is like quite sexy in this. She and Sprouse have some good chemistry and some quite funny rough sex scenes.
Brian Austin Greene and Michael Cudlitz are also in this. It's not on an SVOD streaming service yet.

Equus BFI blu-ray Region B
Richard Burton, Peter Firth, Jenny Agutter. Directed by Sidney Lumet 1977
A psychiatrist tries to uncover the reason a teen-aged stableboy mutilated the horses in his care.
"Equus" is Lumet's adaptation of an acclaimed stage play, and the director admits it wasn't entirely successful. The play was staged in a more stylized way (limited staging, actors portraying horses, that sort of thing), and the film presents the story in a realistic enviroment. At times it works beautifully, and at other times it can seem a bit pretentious and strange. Excellent cast, with Richard Burton giving a powerful, fully committed performance (which wasn't always the case in the latter stages of his career).

The Batman Warners 4K BD
Directed by Matt Reeves 2022
Compared to my Theatrical experience, watching "The Batman" in 4K is like seeing the film for first time. The chosen visual style for the film, -dark-on-dark, heavy shadows, and "shades of Brown" aesthetic- was absolutely muddy on the big screen available/affordable to me, though I still enjoyed the film for what it was. This time I could really appreciate the look of the film, and it seemed more energized. Excellent film overall, but way too long. Terrific package of supplemental video material, particularly for these days.

Tetris Apple+
Taron Egerton
Businessman Henk Rogers risks everything in the race to license and patent the video game Tetris from Russia in the late 1980s during the Cold War.
As this deals with a video game I was expecting something more tongue-in-cheek, but I found it to be a surprisingly effective Thriller. Egerton is excellent and the video game aspect and our familiarity with the time period (and what will happen down the road) adds a certain amount of charm to the preceedings.

The Werewolf of Washington Kino Classics Blu-Ray
Dean Stockwell. Directed by Milton Moses Ginsberg 1973
A reporter who has had an affair with the daughter of the U.S. President is sent to Hungary. There he is bitten by a werewolf, and then gets transferred back to Washington, where he gets a job as press assistant to the President.
This one is a bit of a curio. The director was never happy with the 90-minute release version (which was essentially stolen from him), so he's edited together an approximately 79-minute version all these years later. This is a threadbare low-budget effort where every line spoken has a slight echo to it. It mixes Old School Horror (the Werewolf and his transformation are right out of The Forties) and Political Satire (this was made during The Nixon Administration). It is well-intentioned but it's a bit too restrained and the satire lacks "bite", if you'll pardon the pun. Dean Stockwell was in a rough patch in his career and he definitely commits to the role. I can appreciate the effort of the filmmakers, but I can't really recommend it.
