I own this

It was not bad

Too bad you don't get comedies like this anymore.

Maybe it would seem kind of strange Brando would revisit one of the most iconic roles in cinema history for a comedy.

HDNET Movies

It was over 3 hrs and close to 15 minutes

I thought it was considered one of the classics with that all-star cast but it has only a 42% critics score at Rotten Tomatoes.

Star Trek: First Contact (1996) — Really solid and suspense-filled Star Trek film. Seen this one once before and still holds up along with the visual effects which were decent for its time. This is also the first complete TNG feature and unlike Generations, did feel like a movie rather than two-part episode. ****/***** (4K Ultra HD)

Shotgun Stories (2007)

This is a great debut feature from Arkansan Jeff Nichols. It has parts that feel like a thriller or a Southern Fried Noir, but Nichols subverts expectations and delivers a meditation on vengeance and how our actions and decisions are dictated by those that came before us. Take Shelter and Mud definitely have much to recommend, but I think Nichols has yet to top this debut effort.

Malum (2023)

Director/Writer Anthony DiBlasi returns to remake his 2014 film Last Shift.

While the budget is noticeably larger and the FX work stronger, the remake doesn't improve on any other aspect of the original film, much of which I enjoyed.

Pacing is incredibly sluggish and no one outside the Malum cult members are remotely interesting as characters.

Creed III (2023)

Although the film's melodramatic moments fall a bit flat, Michael B. Jordan's directorial debut is an enjoyable one.

Jonathan Majors is an absolutely fantastic choice in casting as Adonis Creed's foil and wished there were more scenes between the two throughout the film.

Waco: American Apocalypse (2023)

Director Tiller Russell's three-part documentary lacks the context to give the events in Waco, Texas more heft but it remains a fairly breezy and fascinating look at the 51-day standoff between the ATF & the Branch Davidians.

The Old Guard (2020)

Outside the film's final act, the entirety of the film feels five-times as long as its 125-minute run-time.

There isn't enough interesting content to justify sitting through the long stretches of boredom.

The Horde (2009)

The trailer is obviously for the English dub, which is why the moustached cop (the one with the curly hair) sounds completely comical. When I saw this available in the original French with English subs on Tubi, I decided to give it another look since I remember this movie having one of all-time favourite scenes of somebody taking out a zombie. I had last seen this around 2010, 2011 and wanted to see if I would enjoy this movie as much as I did in the previous decade. The short answer is no.

The story is about four cops out for revenge who go into what should be a condemned apartment complex. Things go sideways for this off-the-books mission, and the cops are about to eat lead when a zombie epidemic interrupts the proceedings, forcing the gang members and cops to work together.

This is a very lean movie that doesn't get into the weeds about how the zombie outbreak happens. In fact, if you just saw the first 15 minutes, you'd think this was a straight cop thriller. The zombie apocalypse just happens and the handful of survivors have to deal with it.

Aside from the fat-free storytelling, I appreciate that The Horde pits the undead against people who know how to fight dirty. I've seen my share of zombie movies and noticed a tendency for people to use guns and sharp objects to take out the walking (or running) dead. This movie features at least a couple of instances where the survivors have no weapons and have to fend zombies in a tight space with either their bare hands or whatever happens to be in reach. The scene that left an impression on me all those years ago takes place in a small kitchen where no knives are in sight. Seeing it now, it wasn't nearly as impressive as I remember, but man alive, is it a down and dirty fight.

Long story short, if you want to see people kick the living shit out of zombies (quite literally in some cases), The Horde is the movie for you.

Hotel Transylvania. I kept losing patience with the humor where a character doesn't quit doing something stupid although it's clearly not working, but Mrs Danger enjoyed the movie. (Amazon Prime)

The Old Dark House. Director James Whale made a wonderful pre-code movie about travelers stranded in a creepy house. This film codified the genre. ("I'm glad we caught you at home, can we use your phone? We won't want to cause any worry.") I don't know how I missed seeing it. (Svengoolie)

Soylent Green. Neither of us had seen it as an adult, but we both clearly remembered the last line. There is nothing more stale than a stale message movie, but the direction and performances were great.

I thought this was pretty good.

His experiments are still relevant today and scary how people will blindly follow authority without any questions.
