MGM +
Even for me the lowbrow humor was too much.
What was Mike Meyers thinking when he came up with this?
Do Colbert and John Oliver brag they were in this movie?

So many big names in this movie which puzzles me and were they thinking they were going to get Shrek residuals from this?

Starz
I don't understand how it got a PG-13 rating when there was barely any profanity.
It seemed like a Hallmark movie that got a theatrical release.

It was ok but don't get how it got two scores in the 90's at Rotten Tomatoes.

Showtime
Not a huge rom com fan but this was pretty good and funny.
It should have a higher score at rotten tomatoes.

Everything, Everywhere, All At Once at the arthouse theater. It is shown in conjunction with the local science fiction convention. The theater added a show time after it won Oscars. The Thursday matinee was almost full, and everyone there was gray-haired.

One of the rare Ethan Hawke movies I did not like.
Not a lot of dialogue and WTF is happening?

The Invitation (2022) - set in modern times, but in the style of a classical Gothic horror story, and based on a familiar tale. A struggling young woman from New York travels to England to attend a posh wedding, but she starts to experience disturbing events. The beautiful Nathalie Emmanuel plays the lead role. This is an easy watch, but quite predictable. I found certain scenes to be very creepy (appropriately so) in the way they are filmed and edited. A few scenes were so dark, though--literally the image on screen was too dark--that I couldn't see what was supposed to be freaking the characters out. It's rated PG-13, there's some violence and blood, but it probably would have been more effective had it turned up the gore a bit. They were obviously going for a fresh take on a classic story, but it follows the genre tropes without doing anything really interesting with them. And it makes some social commentary, but in a kind of ham-fisted and uninteresting way.

Netflix
The Tom Hanks Disney + version was better.
Just kidding

I wonder if it will get a official blu-ray release?
I thought since it was advertised as being darker there would be zero musical numbers but at least they kept them to a minimum.

Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (2023)
Even for Director/Writer Guy Ritchie the film comes off formulaic, though it's an entertaining 116-minute romp due to it's fantastic cast.

Scream VI (2023)
Loved the frantic pacing of this film but the tried & true reveals/monologues tend to put everything to an awkward halt.

Barbarella. When I watched it twenty five years ago, I was disappointed in the aimless plot. This time I loved the bizarre sets and costumes. (Paramount+)
The Great Silence (D: Corbucci). It's a very good spaghetti western, with amazing winter cinematography, but we didn't like the downer ending.

West Side Story (2021) - I first watched the 1961 movie only last year, and I wanted to give it some space before watching Spielberg's adaptation of the musical. I enjoyed this, though I think I prefer the older movie. Spielberg's version is a little bigger in the scale of some of the musical numbers. Casting Rita Moreno as the drugstore owner was a great tribute to the '61 movie, and just a good choice on its own. The rest of the cast is all good--and more culturally appropriate than in '61. The actors playing the primary characters--Maria, Tony, Anita, Bernardo, and Riff--I think they all did great, especially the women. Though I would have liked someone to play Tony with more charisma than Ansel Elgort. The thing for me that puts the older movie ahead of this one is the more striking visuals--beautiful shots of light and shadow, and vibrant colors and contrast. Spielberg's movie looks good, but less distinctive. Still, it's well made, the story is tried-and-true, and the songs are iconic. I'll probably watch both movies again at some point.

I own it
I bought it for the artwork just kidding

I forgot Ridley Scott directed it and maybe that was why I had some fondness for it back in the mid 90's.
Bridges was great which was no surprise and a young Jeremy Sisto and Ryan Phillipe and maybe it was his first role?
