Fade To Black (1980)

Although this film had been recommend many times over the years, I didn't quite hit the mark for me, as the overall pieces were better than the connected whole.

Appreciated the onslaught of film references and fun death scenes.

Broker (2022)

Though it lacks an overall sense of urgency, Director/Writer Hirokazu Kore-eda's newest film is anchored by a wonderful cast, led by Song Kang-ho, Gang Dong-Won & Bae Doona.

In comparison, I enjoyed Kore-eda's film Shoplifters (2018) quite a bit more.

The Innocents (2021)

Though deliberate, the pacing of this film is a bit grueling.

On the upside, it contains some absolutely wonderful (and disturbing) performances from such a young group of child actors.

In the end, Director/Writer Eskil Vogt creates a superhero film for those who hate superhero films.

The House On The Edge of the Park (1980)

Half of this film is fairly entertaining and the other half makes very little sense.

Worth a viewing for (yet another) sleazy performance from David Hess.

A Wrinkle In Time (2018)

Having completed reading Madeleine L'Engle's 1962 novel of the same name, I was curious how Director Ava DuVernay would approach many of the un-filmable scenes that litter the source material.

The end result is an oddly disconnected mess of a children's blockbuster film.

Knock At The Cabin (2023)

Director M. Night Shyamalan's newest film is a stronger outing than his previous effort Old (2021), which is a bit of a surprise.

Performances are universally solid, though Dave Bautista is the clear standout.

Even so, while the film's journey is rarely boring, its destination falls a bit flat.

Love To Kill (1993)

It's clear that Anthony Wong is really good at playing slimy characters in CATIII films

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Thunderball (1965) - the fourth James Bond film, set mostly in the Bahamas as Bond tries to thwart SPECTRE in their plot to ransom NATO with the threat of some stolen atomic bombs. A pretty typical Bond movie in many respects, but the most notable scenes are the ones filmed underwater, including a big climactic battle between dozens of coast guard men against dozens of SPECTRE henchmen, all in scuba gear and armed with knives and spear guns. And there are not one, not two, but four gorgeous 'Bond girls' including one of the villains. The movie is overlong and can feel a bit tedious at times, and three of the women looked similar enough that I kept getting them confused at first.
Due to some conflicts and lawsuits and settlements, the Thunderball novel would later be adapted again as the 1983 movie Never Say Never Again with Connery returning to the role of Bond for the last time.

I did not have Netflix streaming in 2017 so late for this.

I wonder if Sandler based this on a guy or agent he knew?

Maybe if it had better writers it could have been a masterpiece satirizing Hollywood agents but if you want that probably better off seeing "The Player" with Tim Robbins.

I own this

I liked this better than the Andor series and the boring Han Solo movie.

loses some charm and zazz by the end, but much better than expected. Kunis is pretty great, and greatly pretty - makes up for any sins the movie commits

Free Guy. A background character in an online game becomes self-aware. It has lots of pieces of a good movie, but it doesn't meld them together. It crosses the line from including homages to several better movies to outright theft. It's likeable, but it could have been a lot more.

HBO Max

At least it had more superhero scenes and less dialogue compared to Marvel movies.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Rainy Dog - Huh, who knew? The second movie in the Arrow boxset of Takeshi Miike's so-called "Black Society Trilogy" is surprisingly...well...great, actually. It's really good. And I'm kind of amazed because I put off watching it after finding the first movie in the Arrow release, Shinjuku Triad Society, to be one of the MOST offensive movies I have ever seen (and I'm not a prude, I've seen lotsa of risqué movies, but in my mind, that movie was disgusting and has little to no redeeming value). Rainy Dog is actually really terrific. It's well-shot...the script is good...the acting is solid. Miike is just one of these dudes that is all over the map when it comes to his films, and he's very divisive. Like, I really, really disliked Ichi the Killer...but I thought Audition was...well, at least interesting...I'm intrigued to watch the last movie in the Arrow boxset (okay, not really a boxset, but two discs packaged into a set), Ley Lines...I hope it's more like Rainy Dog than the before-mentioned movie...

Excalibur - Started off okay, but I soon lost interest. Helen Mirren was really good. Can't say much aside from that. The scenery was okay...And I guess Gabriel Byrne was all right...

2017 Netflix streaming movie

Jessica Williams from the Daily Show, Chris O' Dowd, LaKeith Stanfield, and Noel Wells a former SNL cast member who I like was also in it.

It was not bad and only a 90 minute running time if you are stressed for time.

American Honey

I really enjoyed this. I was particularly pleased that (big spoiler)
Spoiler:
Despite her risky behaviour, they didn't go the obvious route of having Star get raped.

Riley Keough was quite fetching in that movie though her choice of bikinis could be questionable at best.

Enjoyably campy melodrama. The Christmas slap scene takes the cake.
