The Golden Child (1986)
I watched this last night on EPIX for the 1st time from start to finish. Honestly, it was just Meh. I didn't find it very funny or very exciting. Charlotte Lewis, who is Murphy's co-star was gorgeous though. I think she was 20 at the time it was made.
Murphy did reunite with the actress who played The Golden Child 3 years ago. I didn't realize it until I looked it up that the child was a girl

It was not as bad as the reviews though I liked this and Hillbilly Efigy another movie most people said was horrible that also had Amy Adams in it.
Why did they cast Danny Pino as the dad and not a bigger name?
It was awkard when

Showtime
I was fucked up from the booster shot and listening to that medieval score with not a lot of dialogue for most of the movie.

HBO
It had a great cast and I wanted to like it but it was hard to follow though I appreciate the artistry of Wes Anderson.

CODA was a great film. I sure hope Troy Kotsur gets the Oscar. His performance was great!

West Side Story (1961) - I'd never seen this before but had been wanting to for a while and figured I should watch it before I give the Spielberg remake a try. I really liked it. The music of course is iconic--even though I've never seen the movie or any stage production of the musical, I was still familiar with several of the songs just through cultural osmosis. The choreography and dancing and the dynamic camera work are great. A few things are cringey from a modern perspective--especially the "brown face" on the Sharks--but it should be viewed as a product of its time. Also, it doesn't quite live up to the tragic nature of the Romeo and Juliet story because it doesn't really sell the bond between Tony and Maria enough. Still, the musical numbers are very entertaining and it's a great looking film with striking colors and atmospheric lighting and shadows. I'm glad to have watched it and now I can give Spielberg's version a go.

I lost the man card last night.
I thought this would have a 80's or 90's audience score at Rotten Tomatoes with all the nostalgia
Strange how I saw Ruffalo and Garner in two movies this weekend that are separated by 18 years

A satire on Youtube and online personalities

Andrew Garfield chewed up the scenery.
I liked this and Maya Hawke is a emerging star and Nat Wolfe and Jason Schwartzman round out the cast.

Pursuit (2022) — Lame — not to mention choppy editing, bad dialogue, poor visual effects and messy plot — action-thriller that's only memorable for whatever Emile Hirsch was doing with his "performance". It's another quick cash-grab for Cusack likely only stepping in because Bruce Willis was busy on his 15 other projects filming at the time. I don't know why I do this to myself. **/*****
