Amazon Prime
This was pretty good and written and directed by Casey Aflleck.
I hope he writes and directs more movies and I like the projects he chooses.
Not a lot of action near the end you get one intense scene but if you like movies where you connect with the characters and form a emotional attachment this is for you.

Dune (2021) — This newest adaptation of the classic Frank Herbert novel (which I've never read) has the usual amazing visuals director Denis Villeneuve is known for alongside great cinematography from Greig Fraser (Rogue One, upcoming The Batman) plus the incredible and bombastic score by Hans Zimmer has the technical aspects but void of any real emotion behind the story and, especially, characters.
I couldn't find much wrong with the performances but nobody really wowed me despite having talents like Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa and Rebecca Ferguson, I didn't think anybody stood out, and that includes Timothée Chalamet in the lead role. I can't say this was at all bad and have some mild interest in part two, but, and this says a lot about Villeneuve's great career, this is one of his lesser films. I'll probably at some point give this another watch, especially when/if part two comes out (who knows when that will be). ***¾/*****
On the plus side, it is much better than the 1984 adaptation.

Yellow Submarine. It's still fun. It reminded me of just how drab the color palette is for today's movies.

The Power Of The Dog. Turns out it is a powerful drama and not at all what one expects. Hey something new!

The Toolbox Murders (1978) — Has its moments of creepiness especially with the killer and his kidnapped teenage victim, and the opening murders were pretty brutal, but the scenes in between with characters I couldn't care less about, was a tad dry. As exploitation movies go (well half of it anyway), it's okay. **¾/*****

Uncut Gems - great movie, Sandler and the whole cast are excellent. I'm not much of a fan of his comedies, but in the right dramatic role he is terrific.

The Power of the Dog - I need to digest this more, but I liked it. Good performances by everyone, especially Cumberbatch. The cinematography and direction are excellent. This is Jane Campion's first feature film since 2009.

Breakheart Pass (1975) — Really solid western-thriller with Charles Bronson in his element as usual with movies like these. Features a nice supporting cast that includes Richard Crenna, Charles Durning, Ben Johnson and Jill Ireland. Just an all around entertaining film from beginning to end. ***¾/*****

If you think this is going to be a big Scifi or action movie you will be dissapointed but overall I enjoyed it.

Maybe some people might think this might be a action movie but it is a drama but I liked it and connected with the characters.
People were saying the Damon character was a Maga guy but I did not see that.

I own the box set.
Maybe it is just me but I think this is the 2nd best movie in the original Apes canon.
It was so dark and f*cked up and the acting was top notch.
Those torture scenes were hard to watch.

Till Death (2021), a serviceable, if dog-eared, cat-and-mouse thriller hampered by the atrociously plastic presence of Megan Fox. 5/10

Whispers in the Dark (1992) — Some okay moments and the acting from Annabella Sciorra was pretty good, though the ending has a couple unintentionally funny parts, one with the killer just blurting out a confession (sure, he was cornered with Sciorra's character discovering his feelings for her, but was just odd and felt lazy), followed by him expositioning all the things he did throughout the film. Still, as 1990s erotic thrillers go, it's watchable. ***/*****

Showtime
It was ok though slow but it has a high score from the critics and audience reviews at rotten tomatoes so maybe I missed something though the performances were good.

The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) — Great romance-crime-drama featuring two wonderful performances from Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo who share incredible chemistry in their cat-and-mouse play. The crime element is also well done, although how Crowne gets the painting into that small briefcase still confuses me. But seen this one several times over the years and it's entertaining every single time. ****¼/*****

Injustice (2021)
I went into this knowing only the basic premise behind the video games and nothing about the comics that followed. On the plus side, this movie makes time for lesser-known DC characters like Plastic Man and Mr. Terrific and some of the fights aren't too bad.
In the minus column (and this one is big enough to destroy any good will the positives generate) is the writing. Superman's characterization is inconsistent; he essentially acts whatever way the plot requires to move it along. The story attempts to cram in too many elements like the break-up of the Justice League and the involvement of Ra's al-Ghul. The government response to the rogue Superman alone would've been enough to fill 75+ minutes. Major characters like Aquaman and Shazam simply say 'Screw you, Superman' and disappear while others show up for a few seconds before getting taken out rather unceremoniously—apparently someone saw Friday the 13th Part V and took away the wrong lessons.
I haven't a clue why this wasn't a miniseries or at least a two-part movie. If The Dark Knight Returns can be split in two, I don't understand why a major storyline like this one wouldn't warrant a similar treatment. Injustice definitely belongs in the lower tier of the DC animated films.

A Perfect Murder (1998) — This is one I've seen a few times over the years (last time was nearly 10 years ago). Wonderfully devious performance from Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow holds her own (and looks great). Not an amazing thriller but kept my attention to the end. Fine direction by Andrew Davis who a few years before directed the great thriller, The Fugitive. ***¾/*****
