Space Jam the New Legacy. Only slightly better than the first because it leans into the nonsense and Don Cheadle is chewing the scenery like he was starving.

The crossover character stuff was a bit excessive.

Doctor Sleep.

Danny Torrance, the boy from The Shining, is grown up. He never really recovered from his childhood trauma. There is a group of psychic vampires led by a beautiful woman who torture children to death to eat their shine. And there is a smart, articulate teenage girl who has giant shine that the vampires want to eat. Dan Torrance has to overcome his fear of being involved.

Kyliegh Curran was great as the teenage girl Abra. The skill of today's child actors continues to amaze me.

I liked it. Mrs Danger thought it took too long to get going, but she got into it after the first hour.

Fear Street Part 2: 1978 - I liked this more than part 1. The era and the summer camp setting really dial up the nostalgia factor.

I watched a bunch of movies since last Thursday. I'll just give a simple grade for my thoughts:

Free Guy: A-

Don't Breathe 2: C

Raging Fire (HK action movie with Donnie Yen): B+

Respect (Aretha bio): B

Blood Red Sky (Netflix): B-

I re-watched Fair Game (1995) last night probably for the first time since VHS. It was added to Hoopla.

Man, this movie was awful. Billy Baldwin was terrible and while Cindy Crawford was hot, she really cannot act. Probably one of the worst Joel Silver produced action movies ever. It only made $11M total.

And the sex scene with Baldwin and Crawford was probably one of the worst directed sex scenes IMO. There is a brief glimpse of breasts, but I could not tell if it was really Crawford or a body double.

Thankfully the movie was barely 90 minutes.

Started the new Suicide Squad last night and finished it at lunch. A lot of fun, and clearly not afraid to dip into the canon of DC. That final boss was certainly a whopper and Harley is just so delightfully nuts.

Action U.S.A. (1989) — Outside of some fun pyrotechnics (explosions), this is a pretty bland action movie with no real chemistry between the three main actors. Seems like this was going for a Lethal Weapon vibe (which was released two years prior in 1987), but never reaches that level, not even close. I guess has some bad-good moments but I was fairly bored through much of this. **/*****

A interesting premise and a great cast wasted on a average movie

I was expecting more especially when Jesse Plemens appeared assuming it would be good since he picks good projects to work on.

Starz

It had its moments but mostly forgettable though it would have been better if Victoria Justice played the female lead since she is hotter.

If you like Hallmark type movies this might be for you.

Still feels strange Robert Forster is no longer with us.

Tyler Hoechlin was really young back then in 2000.

I feel old.

Epix

The cast is loaded with stars but it was not really that funny which was a big disappointment.

Polaroid (2019)

If this movie were a baseball, it'd be a fastball right down the middle. The attractive cast of twentysomethings masquerading as high schoolers do an adequate job with their roles while giving the film a '90s vibe (see Scream, The Faculty, I Know What You Did Last Summer). The kills are competently staged but rather far from original.

With these types of been-there-done-that thrillers/horror movies, I try to anticipate the scares or guess the twists because the film simply isn't holding my attention enough to keep me entirely invested. When Polaroid goes into the backstory of the camera, I was thinking that the script would yank out the rug and throw a wicked curveball. Instead, it pulls back and goes for a 'twist' that won't surprise anyone familiar with horror movies. It's always disappointing when you can come up with a reveal (while watching the movie no less) that's more inventive than the one you get, which is why I'd give this a 2 out of 5 stars at most.

The Secret of Roan Inish. It's a beloved movie, with 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it didn't really draw me in. That may be because I watched too many Wonderful World of Disney movies on TV in the 1960s about a spunky child in a foreign culture who makes everything right. Mrs Danger appreciated seeing an upbeat movie at the end of a bad day.

Maybe people who follow the news or politics ever day knew who this guy was but I never did.

Armas might have shown her goods though it was dark so maybe a double was used.

The Protege (2021)

No, it's not streaming. Theaters only right now. An entertaining B action thriller with a pretty good cast. Story is a little by the numbers and gets a little convoluted, but it's a decent way to spend an afternoon. There is some good action and hand to hand fight scenes and Maggie Q is always entertaining to watch.

Can't say enough how good this film is and it's Adam Sandler's best role.

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard (2021) — Fun enough action-comedy, probably a tad better (from what I can remember) than the first one, mainly due to the inclusion of Salma Hayek who was great and the sparring between Reynolds and Jackson wasn't as annoying compared to the last go around. Solid supporting cast with Antonio Banderas and Morgan Freeman as well. ***/*****

Not a lot of Harley Quinn or maybe Margot was filming another movie.

Some Ok scenes but mostly forgettable.

HBO Max

I think this has to be the best King Kong movie done in this century after King Kong 2005.

It was rare where the scenes with the humans were interesting when the monsters are not on screen and it helped it had some of my favs like Samuel L. Jackson, John C. Reilly, Brie Larson, John Ortiz, and John Goodman.

Maybe they could bring back the same crew for another Kong movie though they would have to get creative to find a way to bring back Samuel and Goodman.

Prophecy Paramount +
Robert Foxworth, Talia Shire. Directed by John Frankenheimer.

Back in '79 Paramount tried to make a "B" movie into a prestige film by adding a name director and a lot of social causes. A crusading social worker, his pregnant wife, and Native American activists end up fighting a giant mutant bear that is the result of industrial pollution. The last 20 minutes, with the heroes battling against the “man-in-suit” bear, -and it’s a really ill-conceived suit, -is entertaining in an old-fashioned "Monster Movie" kind of way.

We Are What We Are Shudder 2013
Directed by Jim Mickle.
A reclusive family faces a tragedy on the eve of a yearly ritual with gruesome portents.

I’ve enjoyed Jim Mickle’s previous films "Stakeland" and "Cold in July", as well as the series "Hap and Leonard". However, this film is so carefully paced, and every line is so quietly measured that after an hour it just drove me nuts. Perhaps on some other evening it might have hit me differently….

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard Blu-Ray

I hated the trailers for "The Hitman’s Bodyguard" but I gave it a shot and I enjoyed it for the most part. I just rented the sequel from The County Library and it was nearly unbearable. Way too much Salma Hayek (and I never thought I’d ever say that, -I mean, I watched "Everly"). It’s just relentlessly loud and vulgar and in that way it reminded me of James Gunn’s "The Suicide Squad".
