Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Chrystal Skull

Watched the 4K to make sure it worked and found that it wasn't the cinematic turd that I remembered. Still not on par with the first three, however.

I got the 2nd shot and was not feeling that great for most of this movie.

Donald Glover, Mark Duplas, and Sarah Bolger were also in this.

Maybe the second or third time I saw this

This is really long at 3 hrs and 9 minutes.

Not a lot of likeable characters except maybe the cop played by John C. Reilly.

Funny it was set in San Bernandino since it never rains there or anywhere in CA.

Maybe the best or second best performance Tom Cruise will ever give or have in his career along with Born on the Fourth of July.

It was eerie watching Jason Robards play a dying character and he would die one year later in 2000.

I am not sure if I will ever buy this but nice to revisit.

Thor Ragnorak on Disney Plus.

Pretty fun and Cate Blanchett with a gallon of eyeshadow is *chef’s kiss*.

Logan Lucky - Soderbergh's redneck Ocean's 11 has it's moments. I've watched it a few times now. (MA)

Bad Teacher - I've always enjoyed this one more than the conventional wisdom. Although, it's apparently been more than a few years since I've seen it as I never realized Kaitlyn Dever and Kathryn Newton were students in it. (hulu)

The Ice Road - Thoroughly mediocre in it's best moments and positively dreadful in it's worst. Neeson is determined to keep pumping these out though. (Netflix)

Buddy Games - Imagine Tag with D-level stars and no funny moments (FTR, I consider Tag....ok) (hulu)

Almost Famous (2000) — With the new 4K release, decided to watch the Director's Cut (Untitled) version for the first time having seen the theatrical version a couple of times over the years (last time was several years ago, however). Anyway, still a great movie even for someone who isn't exactly steeped into rock and roll music or has as much of an appreciation compared with others. Features a wonderful ensemble cast with solid performances all around (Hudson and Crudup were standouts) and the original music, alongside the classics, were great. ****½/*****

Showtime

It had some funny moments though no need to see Adam Scott's dick or what looked like a prosthetic with Jason Schwartzman.

Showtime

I was into it for maybe the first 90 minutes and then it got a little ridiculous towards the end.

Last night I went to a small art house movie theatre to see the new 4K re-master of Basic Instinct. I did not see this on the big screen 29 years ago. The R rated version was screened, no the UR version. The theatre I went to was having a Paul Verhoeven month showing all his old classics.

Pretty good transfer overall. The movie felt pretty fresh being that I had not seen it for at least 15 years even though I do own the BD.

Stone and Douglas had electrifying chemistry in this. I don't have too much to say about this. It was a product of it's time and this kind of movie will likely never be made ever again.

Wrath of Man (2021) — Solid revenge-thriller with the usual bad-ass performance from Jason Statham. Doesn't exactly have the flare of the usual Guy Richie film but little touches here and there. The pacing feels a tad off probably because it switches from H's (Statham) POV to that of the robbers who really didn't do much for me. Still, well worth checking out. ***¾/*****

Darker than Amber, to watch the late William Smith fight Rod Taylor. Travis McGee is fishing under a bridge when someone drops a girl into the water with her legs tied to a weight. He saves the girl, investigates, and gets the bad guys. It plays like a TV movie. The girl from the book was greatly gentled down, from a hardened prostitute in a serial murder scheme to a damsel in distress. Rod Taylor was perfect as Travis McGee. (YouTube, cropped for TV).

Whiteout - Beckinsale as a US Marshal (naturally) investigating a mysterious series of murders in Antarctica. It's never interesting enough to be actually good, but it's ok. (Blu-ray)

Masterminds - Zach G as a dimwitted armored car driver conned into robbing his employer. Has a few laughs but not enough of them to be recommended. Galifianakis' Prince Valiant haircut is aces though. (Blu-ray)

Ava - Jessica Chastain as a recovery alcoholic turned contract killer (ok...sure). Chastain is good, but the movie doesn't make much sense. (Netflix)

Honest Thief - a.k.a. Not Another Liam Neeson Movie!
This came out last year, so it's not his most recent film. There have probably been a couple more since this one. Actually, Honest Thief isn't too bad for a generic, low-budget action/thriller. It's not great, but at least it's better than the one where he drives a snowplow. The supporting cast elevates this one a bit, including Kate Walsh, Jeffrey Donovan, and Jai Courtney. I watched it 'free' on Amazon Prime Video.

Unforgettable (1996) — Some interesting ideas — not sure why, had a Dead Zone vibe at times — and Ray Liotta gives a pretty good performance but the movie is a bit too long and the ending was really confusing and unsatisfying. I think this is one of those times a movie could be remade and done better. **¾/*****

House of Wax (2005) — Better than expected remake from 2005 with some decent gore and the effects during the finale looks pretty good. The cast was alright, reminder Elisha Cuthbert's time starring in movies (courtesy of 24) but she was fine and even Paris Hilton wasn't... awful I suppose. Nothing I'd really revisit anytime soon but all in all found it to be entertaining. ***½/*****

Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and The Wasp. Finally catching up. I find I’m liking the stuff like Ant-Man and the Guardians movies the most, they have such a different energy.

Usually you don't get these type of actors for a Hallmark type movie.

It was ok though I liked the scenes without the kids more.

Fallen Angels (1995)

Dizzying & claustrophobic.

It was fun revisiting this film after not having re-watched it in quite a while.

Fast and Furious 9 (2021)

Everything about this film is absurd & over-the-top, which is why it never felt boring to me.

If the amount of times I laughed is indicative of how entertained I was, then this film did its work (and then some)!

Black Widow (2021) - It was ok/good, kind of middle of the road Marvel.

Body Double (1984) - Can't decide if this was really good or really bad. A few times I was laughing and wondering WTF?

Eyes Wide Shut (1999) - First time watching this and while I don't think it's Kubrick's best film, I really liked it and it definitely had me thinking about it afterwards. Going to have to watch it again someday.

HBO

With the daughter from Call Your Mother that cancelled ABC sitcom and Dianna Agron as the hot mom.

Maybe it has a Woody Allen vibe and very strong Jewish themes.
