It was not perfect though it should have gotten a proper release and if this came out in the 90's it would be a big deal.

I thought it was decent. Maybe had the urge to put some of my old rap CDs in the stereo.

Maybe Depp's legal problems had an effect.

Joy Ride Tubi Streaming
Paul Walker, Steve Zahn Directed by John Dahl
Two brothers on a road trip play a "CB radio" prank on a murderous trucker who now wants revenge.

One of those movies that's not on blu-ray and since it's a Fox title, it probably never will be. The first half of the film is a terrific thriller, focusing on the brothers finding out they crossed the wrong man and trying desperately to escape him. Then it dead-stops for about ten minutes and starts over again, this time in a more "commercial" way, -it adds potential girlfriends for the boys and film tries to portray the truck driver as more of an "iconic villain" who has time to set elaborate traps and pop up out of nowhere. That being said, it's a decent film overall, but I wish it had maintained the more intense momentum of the first half.

Maybe it might be slow for most people with little dialogue in the beginning but it was not bad.

Wright and Bichir were great.

I wonder if that box of Vans was a nod to Spicoli or Robin's ex ?

The Nun (2018) - I've recently been catching up on the Conjuring franchise and after Conjuring 2 I was hoping this would be good. It wasn't terrible but I was hoping for more. I think the few minutes we get of the nun in Conjuring 2 are much creepier and scarier than this entire movie. I mean, they threw a lot of stuff into this, but it would have benefitted from letting the tension build more.

Blood Harvest Tubi Streaming
Jill, visiting home from college, arrives to find her parents missing, and their home vandalized. Soon, matters take a turn for the worse, when she finds herself stalked, and her friends disappearing one by one.

This is a 1987 slasher from low budget Wisconsin filmmaker Bill Rebane; this ends with a Vinegar Syndrome logo and appears to be the uncut version. The oddest aspect of the film is that it features eccentric '60s "Novelty" act "Tiny Tim" (Herbert Khaury) as "Marvelous Mervo", a former clown suffering from a breakdown, almost always in his clown make-up, walking around and talking creepily, and sometimes singing little nonsense songs. The lead actress is Itonia Salchek (her only credit) and she has an abrasive personality and is featured in a series of nude scenes that were so perfunctorily handled that they felt somewhat exploitive. It's weird, and odd and bloody, and watchable just as a curio.

Wind River Tubi Streaming
Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen. Directed by Taylor Sheridan
A veteran hunter helps an FBI agent investigate the murder of a young woman on a Wyoming Native American reservation.

Even though it's built around a basic cliche, -the expert well-versed in tracking and reservation politics and the newbie who stumbles around at first but eventually proves herself, -the performances and the writing keep the film feeling intelligent and gripping. There's a real feel for the environment and the culture. Things go a bit off-the-rails in the final third when the murder is finally solved and the guns start coming out, but the story also takes it's time getting to the melancholy end credits and it gives the film a feeling of being something more than a basic Mystery Thriller.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Every Which Way But Loose - Another kind of middle-of-the-road Eastwood-starring movie. It's not that good, but tolerable. The orangutang doesn't even play that much of a role (thankfully). Just kind of a stupid movie for him to do, featuring one of the most god-awful sex scenes I've ever witnessed; it's jaw-droopingly bad. That said, the direction is actually pretty great. Like, at least he tried to make a decent movie out of what was clearly a pretty lousy script. The camera angels and the editing are all pretty damn good. And the scenery, at least to me, makes it at least watchable. I'm not sure where it was filmed (and don't care to look into it), probably California, as Eastwood at some point kind of made that a point when he made movies, but it actually looks like British Columbia, Canada. Just really great shots of lakes and campgrounds and forests and whatnot. That said? Skip this one. The movie pretty meh.

Firefox - A pretty awful Clint Eastwood picture. The acting is no good. The storyline is no good. The entire movie is pretty abysmal. Like a lot of Eastwood movies, it pretty much plays it safe and goes exactly where you think its going to go. Not recommended.

Leguizamo must have been high when he made this movie.

I liked it for some reason in the 90's but then realized how awful it was after watching it for the second ti,e.

I don't think John playing Chinese and Japanese characters would work today.

Epix

Directed by Rapman

It got better towards the end but would not recommend. You really need to use closed captioning for the British slang and still might not understand everything.

Cinemax

The fat lady who looked like a dude was annoying.

Ron Funches, Kate Flannery, and Aparna Nancherla are in it too if you are a comedy hipster.

Maybe it is better to watch if you are high

Susan Strasberg the daughter of Lee was a smokeshow back then.

RIP.

Fast Company - Late 70s Cronenberg about funny car drag racers. It would be difficult to foretell 80s Cronenberg from this one. It's a certain kind of movie, but there even really wasn't enough T&A to hold my interest. (HBO Max)

HBO Films

This was pretty good. Maybe a potential Emmy nominee?

It is a shame HBO does not make a lot of their own movies like they did in the past.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

48 HRS (1982) — Entertaining buddy action-comedy that features a good antagonistic relationship between Nolte and Murphy. The plot isn't the strongest but the action/fight scenes were alright and violence straight out of the wonderful 1980s. ***/*****

Another 48 HRS (1990)
— A bit weak and the "conflict" between Nolte and Murphy was pretty convoluted (no reason for Cates to hold the money over Reggie's head to help with his investigation) but the action was okay including an over-the-top gun battle finale with a ton of broken glass everywhere. It's okay as a time-waster but nothing overly memorable. Have to wonder if this was made given the success of Lethal Weapon three years earlier, not to mention Murphy's star power (which itself was a success probably thanks to 48 HRS). **/*****

1976

HBO Family

The poster is misleading Kong does not go on top of the building at night.

I did not think it was that bad and tempted to buy the Blu-ray since I like the artwork.

Kong could have broken those gates if he popped a boner looking at Jessica Lange's hot ass in daisy dukes.

Dead & Buried (1981) — "Tales from the Crypt" (meets The Stepford Wives) like story that has plenty of entertainment value even though it's more on the creepy spectrum than scary. Jack Albertson as the mortician was a lot of fun and James Farentino had his moments. ***/*****

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

The General's Daughter (1999) — Not the strongest mystery-drama-thriller but serviceable if not also pretty heavy in a few scenes dealing with a woman's brutal sexual assault. Travolta gives a fine performance as does the reliable James Cromwell, not to mention James Woods and Madeline Stowe. This is probably my third time viewing, first in a long while, but still found it engaging as well as really sad. ***/*****

Hulu

I did not know the premise of this movie was these characters were suppose to be unlikable.

Keanu was miscast and not a good fit for this type of comedy.

A real hot love scene in the weeds

One positive I can live with the $5.99 Hulu fee if the ads are just before the start of the movie and not like Tubi where they come in every 10 minutes.

it was a waste paying the $11+ fee.
