All Hallow's Eve (2013)

The bookend segments are great, which isn't a surprise as they are previous short films from Damien Leone. The new (middle) segment start off pretty solid but gets really goofy.

For the Love of Movies: The Story of American Film Criticism (2009)

An excellent start (It was great seeing the history of American film-critics in the early years) but it gets sloppy when we move past the 1960s. I'm surprised there wasn't more emphasis on the "Fake" critics that caused the recall of certain movies on the home market, but this doc was probably completed in time before that happened.

Dark Forces - 2/5

A stranger claiming to possess supernatural powers enters the life of a senator and his family. 80's Australian horror film that could have been good if they would have toned down the cheeze.

Natural History for Titans and Jerusalem (which is amazing and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)

Hunger Games over at Udvar Hazy - traffic was a major bitch getting to the 4:30 screening and back into town.

Thanks I'll have to check it out. Yeah going to Udvar Hazy sucks sometimes. Last time I went was for MI:4, luckily TDKR was at Air & Space.

The Navigators - 3.5/5

The lives of a group of rail workers are changed when the company they work for becomes privatized.
Another Ken Loach film that documents the struggles of the everyday working man.

Re: Last movie you watched

Volver- My first Almodovar flick. On paper, Volver sounds like a mess. The lurid plot is so full of different elements, everything from dark taboo themes of incest, fratricide, rape, masturbation, murder, and child abuse to broad comedy like fart and sex jokes, all played in bright Douglas Sirk-style colors. The plot sounds like the first draft of a creative writing student on paper. In execution, however, Almodovar manages not only to make it work, but balance the many disparate elements beautifully. The real power, though, comes in the incredible performances. Almodovar plays melodrama is broadly as Sirk did, and every bit as well. In spite of its dark themes, the film isn't depressing, but exuberant and lively, and Almodovar's cadre of actresses are all truly extraordinary, their performances beautiful and heartfelt. He's one of today's iconoclasts, and I'll definitely check out more of his work. But for now, this is an interesting introduction.

second time - loved it just as much as the first time - the Dolby Atmos mix was just gorgeous and complimented the great music

in 'High Frame Rate 3D' and Dolby Atmos.

Welcome to the world of one of the greatest living directors. Hope you enjoy the rest of his films (most of which are great IMO).

RIPD- Lame Men in Black knockoff with a screenplay so predictable that you'd think it was left over from the early 90s. Bridges has lots of fun doing his Western shtick and he and Reynolds are an engaging pair, shame they're in such a woefully dull movie. Shot digitally, presumably so the endless parade of visual effects shots would be easier to integrate.

Fear X - 4/5

A man becomes obsessed with his pregnant wife's unsolved murder which was caught on surveillance video. Solid American debut from Nicholas Winding Refn that is part Kubrick & part Lynch.

Revanche - 4/5

An ex-con working in a brothel falls for one of it's employees, a Ukranian prostitute. He plans to rob a bank in order to wipe out their debts and start new life together but not all goes as planned.

Ms. 45 (1981)

It was an absolute dream to see this in a theater. Drafthouse Films' new HD/Uncut print looked beautiful. Flesh tones ran a bit hot, but I didn't know if that was the fault of the transfer or the theater.
