Rituals Kino Lorber/ Code Red BD
Hal Halbrook
A group of doctors go for a weekend trip into the backwoods and find themselves stalked by a mysterious killer.

A gritty Canadian production from the Mid-Seventies. Kino warns you up front that the print is a bit rough. A lot more character-driven and credible than your usual "stalker in the woods" flick. Some good supplements give you a feel for the production and enhances the appreciation of the film.

Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) — Satisfying through and through. Also they seemed to learn from the past mistakes (with Godzilla and Godzilla: King of the Monsters) of doing too much with the human characters, here they are thankfully just window dressing for the battle between the two titans. ***¾/*****

Amazon Prime

I just watched it for VIkander and Moore but not a subject that I am truly engrossed with though it was entertaining until the final 40 minutes.

A movie with LGBTG theme and wished it was rated R so we could see Gemma and Gugu make out.

Airport '77 (1977) — Gets a little slow in the third act during the scuba rescue part but picks up a bit and finishes well enough. Having now seen three of these, while far from great, I'm a sucker for the Airport movies, as preposterous as they can be at times. ***/*****

Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) — Really loved it, and they did justice for BOTH titans. Took the best of the first 2 plus Skull Island and made an excellent movie.

I am a long long time fan of the Godzilla franchises.

Amazon Prime.

I thought it was pretty funny and a inspiring movie based or inspired by true events.

It got rolling once Cooke and Malcolm had a heated discussion.

Maybe just me but I thought it was better and more entertaining than Judas and the Black Messiah.

Who knew Angela Kinsey had a smoking hot bod when she took all of her clothes off.

I guess this is what Heather Graham thinks of the males that dominate the movie industry

Chris D'Elia probably was not playing a character but his true self in this movie.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I last watched it on VHS, and I wanted to see if I still disliked it. I still dislike it, but with more nuance now. I've seen far more annoying kid sidekicks than Short Round. I've seen worse sex-appeal bimbos than Willie. Harrison Ford spent the middle third of the movie acting well before it degenerated into slam-bang nonsequiteurs. Amrish Puri played an awesome villain.

But what the hell was with that mine cart ride? It looked like a half-hour infomercial for an amusement park.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Skyline - I decided to watch a stupid movie a few days ago so I loaded up Skylines on Netflix. I was a couple minutes into it before I realized that it was the second sequel to Skyline. I noticed that the first sequel was also on Netflix so I started to watch that. Then I thought since it had been a decade since I saw Skyline maybe I should just watch that. So I did. And it still sucked. And now I'm not in any big hurry to watch the sequel. (HBO Max)

Airport '77 - Bought a digital copy of this this week. I saw this movie in the theater when I was 4 years old. Since it came out a few months before Star Wars it might very well be the first live action movie I saw in the theater, but I only have vague memories of it from then. It's not good, but it's not as aggressively stupid as Airport '75. During the Navy underwater rescue scenes I kept waiting for Largo's guys to show up to fight. (MA)

Inferno - Tom Hanks and Director Ron Howard team up for the third Langdon movie. I've read the book, and the at least the first half of this adaptation is faithful, but as a whole this movie never really connected. While in general I like Felicity Jones, she felt miscast here in an underwritten part (as I recall the character was more interesting in the book). (MA)

The Day of the Beast (1995) — Bizarre and doesn't make a lick of sense at times, but thoroughly entertaining with the blend of horror, fantasy and dark comedy. ***¾/*****

I think this is underrated and could be a Easter staple.

The humor was not totally for kids which I liked.

It was ok but still don't see anything that makes it Oscar worthy.

Still think some of the people are paid actors.

The guy working at the fax machine shop probably does not want to say anything or object since he does not want to offend Borat and lose money.

Still too many human scenes.

Some cool fight sequences and special effects and might buy this on disc when it comes out.

From Paris with Love (2010) — This is my second time seeing this, first time since it was released on Blu-ray back when, and although it's not a great action-thriller and maybe under a more capable director could have been, but I still enjoyed it especially for John Travolta while John Rhsy-Meyers was a bit milk toast, though guess you need that type of person opposite Travolta. ***½/*****

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Love and Monsters 4K UHD
In a Post-Apocalypse teeming with monstrous creatures, a lonely, downtrodden Twenty-Something leaves his colony to search for his long-lost girlfriend.

This is a perfectly amiable Adventure story with likeable characters and respectable effects.

Island of Terror Shout Factory BD
Peter Cushing Director: Terence Fisher.
Cancer researchers on a remote Irish island unleash a horde of bone-eating silicate creatures,

Really terrific monster movie from the mid-60s that plays strictly by the numbers, -dedicated scientist Hero, his quippy side-kick, the beautiful girl who always has to be saved, -and is a lot of fun because of it. This is a good old-fashioned monster movie (but probably just for old guys like me) that takes itself seriously enough that the monsters "work" even though they look ridiculous.

Batman: Soul of the Dragon Warners Animation BD
Batman teams up with DC's martial arts characters to fight Kobra in a very '70s-era adventure. Rated R for violence.

An entertaining pastiche of Kung Fu and Bond films hampered only by the limitations of its direct-to-video animation.

Godzilla vs Kong. Theatrical /HBO Max

I was looking forward to this film, but was somewhat disappointed. Though first in the title, Godzilla is thoroughly marginalized in comparison to Kong, who is given a very emotional story. This seemed to aim at a younger audience than the previous films. I liked some of the elements and I'll give it another shot somewhere down the line.
