Mulholland Drive is on HBO Max, so I rewatched that. Still love the movie. Lynch controls his atmosphere better than pretty much anyone.

Wonder Woman 1984 (2020) — Second time viewing and pretty much feel the same way. The scenes between Gal Gadot and Chris Pine were fantastic, the story was a little bit of a mess and a little confusing at the end (spoiler territory so won't expand on it). It doesn't have the charm or magic of the first film but it's still worth checking out as there's enough to make it halfway entertaining. ***/*****

Insomnia - I hadn't watched the Nolan remake in a while. I had forgotten how good it started. The third act was a little messy though. (HBO Max)

Not the most cheerful subject matter but worth a watch.

Stargate (1994) — I've seen this movie a couple of times over the years and while it's entertaining enough, there was always something holding it back. It's got some creativity, a decent cast with Kurt Russell and James Spader and the premise of a portal to another part of the universe is interesting (and more than enough to spawn a couple DTV movies and a couple TV series), but can't really put my finger on why. ***¼/*****

Good Morning (1959)
Not my favorite Ozu film but enjoyable nonetheless.
Absolutely beautifully shot.

The Road to Eldorado. Our first reaction to the Dreamworks animated movie was that the sound was thin. It turned out that the whole movie was thin. Mrs Danger was into it because she liked the art. I got tired of it in a hurry. The movie only worked while the high priest was present. The movie picked up in the last third because there was lots of high priest action.

The Little Things (2021)
Cast was solid but the overall film was very average.
After a pretty solid build-up, the film stumbles quite a bit in its second-half and clearly isn't sure where it wants to go.
The finale doesn't quite hit like Director/Writer John Lee Hancock wanted it to.

Perdita Durango (aka Dance with the Devil) (1997) — Pretty crazy and messed up romance-thriller featuring great performances from Rose Perez and Javier Bardem. Slows down a tad in the third act before ratcheting up again for the finale. Some really uncomfortable scenes but still a highly engaging film. This was the 130-minute uncut version. ****/*****

Stagecoach - Had not seen this until today on the Criterion Channel. It was great.

It was not horrible but unnecessary and a money grab.
I guess if you really loved the characters or had deep nostalgia for them this movie is for you.

I watched it again for the first time since 2011.
Looking back it i amazing how Pacino and Robin Williams got cast in a Christopher Nolan movie.
The early 2000's a different era of movies and movie stars.

This film still holds up for me. I remember seeing this in the theater opening weekend back in May of '77 . Telly Savalas turns up in a major cameo at the climax of the film, and this was when Telly was everywhere, -Kojak, every other Talk and Variety show, and he even had an album, -and it really took me out of the picture at a key point. Now I'm watching it some 40 years later and it just comes off as a broad character turn and plays a lot more smoothly.

Cooties Tubi
Children at a small town grade school become infected with a virus which turns them into blood-thirsty fiends that attack their teachers.
This is one strange, grisly film. Filled with dark, gruesome scenes of carnage as the teachers try to save themselves from the monstrous children that are tearing the adults to pieces. However, the teachers are played as comic characters (ala "The Office"). I suppose the dark humor allows a level of violence towards children that might not fly in a straightforward Horror film. I found myself with a qualified appreciation of "Cooties", though the ending of the film definitely felt like something that was added after a "Test Screening".

Southland Tales (2007) — Saw this one many years ago and really didn't care much for it. Watching it again, now the 'Cannes Cut', I absolutely... hated it. A bit of a shame since I love Donnie Darko (the director's cut especially) and where that one managed to blend social commentary with end-of-the world science fiction pretty well, this one did not. In fact, it was a real mess. However the biggest issue, beyond being downright boring at times, where I liked the characters in Donnie Darko, here I really couldn't care less.
I would compare Richard Kelly to someone like M. Night Shyamalan, but least he had a couple solid films after The Sixth Sense to hang his hat on, Kelley's films following Donnie Darko (including his third film, The Box), were just nonsensical pretentious messes. *½/*****

Deadlier than the Male. Another 60s movie trying to ride the coattails of James Bond, better than most. It hits a good balance of humor and thrills. Oil company executives die unexpectedly, and someone makes a big profit in the market. Insurance investigator Richard Johnson looks into it. The real stars of the show are Elke Sommer and Sylva Koscina, two assassins in sexy clothes who truly enjoy their jobs. (Tubi)

Not my favorite genre of film and questionable acting though maybe a story that had to be told and always support a Asian dude getting a hot blonde chick.

Airport 1975 (1974) — Really solid action-thriller disaster flick that in some ways is better than the first, especially being leaner and going away from the overly long soap opera storyline that took up half the running time. Some impressive aerial footage and the performances, for the kind of movie this is, wasn't bad. Is it convoluted with the actual disaster? For sure, but I was entertainined. ***¾/*****

Sound of Metal - Ahmed is quite good in this story of a Metal drummer who loses his hearing. The one criticism I would have is that for me the emotional climax was 25 minutes before the movie actually ended, and while I understand there was more story to tell I didn't think it was as interesting. The Girl in Black Stockings (1957, S: Lex Barker, Anne Bancroft, Mamie Van Doren). It looked like noir with a good cast. It's more of a slasher movie. At motel near Zion National Park, Utah, a promiscuous woman is murdered and then slashed repeatedly. The local sheriff and a Los Angeles lawyer try to figure out who the killer is as the bodies accumulate. There are sexual undercurrents that can't be named in a Production Code movie. It's got a mid-20th century script where everyone stands around psychoanalyzes their motivations. Disappointing. (Tubi)

The critics tore this a new asshole. Maybe they hate Dan Fogelman the creator of This is Us.
I did not think it was that bad and a great cast.
Maybe if you like This Is Us check this out on Amazon Prime.
