Star Trek Beyond (2016) — We need a 4th Star Trek. Anyone heard if they are planning?

Event Horizon (1997) — This is the third time seeing this one and my opinion pretty much remained the same. Some interesting ideas but not very well executed, though that's kind of Paul W.S. Anderson's style of filmmaking it would seem. Visual effects are at times iffy (the CGI in particuular) but the acting was okay and I can't say I ever was bored or mystified with what I was watching. ***¼/*****

Watched this tonight for the very first time. I have no idea why I hadn't seen it before, or any excuse. I usually see all Oscar nominated movies each year. What a film! I'm stunned "Rain Man" won Best Picture over it. I tried watching that one again last year (second time ever), and turned it off after 30 minutes. Found out fast that was one movie I didn't need to watch ever again. Also stunned Defoe wasn't nominated for Best Actor too (or Supporting Actor) and it didn't get a Best Screenplay nomination. There was some truly great dialogue in it. 10/10 rating from me overall.

¡Three Amigos! (1986) — Just an all around fun and light-hearted comedy, one that I haven't seen in a long time (probably some time in the early 90s). Not a comedy classic but one that generates plenty of smiles and laughs. ***¾/*****

Stuber - I still like the stars, and I don't think the idea was necessarily bad, but I just wish it was funnier. (MA)

I remember watching this on ABC when the big 3 letter network showed movies and it was 3 hrs long and I bet they still edited stuff out.
I bought it from Screen Archives a couple of years ago and need to watch it again sometime.

It was not that bad and Newton is fast becoming one of my favorite actresses though I could not see with her looks being the dorky kid in high school.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Maybe it is a little cheesy now and not really a straight out comedy and more of a drama.
I wonder how they got Prince to lend them DSMR?
Rebecca De Mornay one of those rare actresses that got hotter when she got older.

The Bodyguard (1992) — Well acted and pretty well made romance-thriller with two charismatic performances from Costner and Houston. A little far-fetched at the end but I still enjoyed this, especially for the music from Houston. ***¾/*****

The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone - While it clearly, obviously doesn't measure up to the first two movies, I always kind of liked this one too. Truth be told, it had been long enough since I had seen it that beyond the movie not opening up at the party and the very end, I didn't really recognize any other of Coppola's latest tinkerings. Of course no amount of tinkering could correct the movie's two biggest problems. Correcting those problems (no Duvall (and every problem that comes almost solely from that), not properly recasting Mary) would require the use of time machine. (Paramount+)

The Dark Intruder Kino Lorber
This was a failed black-and-white TV pilot from the mid-Sixties that was released as a 59 minute feature. Leslie Nielson is Brett Kingsford, a playboy who dabbles in the occult in 1890s San Francisco. He tries to solve a series of murders by a shadowy figure with razor-sharp claws. It certainly feels like an episode of "Thriller", or one of the other quality genre series of the '60s and it definitely doesn't over-stay its welcome. The disc is nicely produced and includes an interesting commentary.

A great thriller.
Daniel Jones was persistent and would never give up.
So far all of the Amazon prime movies I have seen so far have not disappointed until I get to see Coming 2 America in the future.

Justice League (2021) - It's bloated and self-indulgent, but there's some truly great stuff in here. I thought the 2017 film was fine, but it was just so forgettable. I think fleshing out Steppenwolf/Darkseid helps a lot here. I also think there is a great film within this film, but Snyder didn't seem to be interested in editing it down. I'm not sure a Snyder 2017 theatrical version wouldn't have had problems too because they almost certainly would have had him take out too much and part of what makes the movie work, at least for me, is the epic scope. It just drags in spots during the first two hours, and the second half of the epilogue is kind of a mess. I think the ideal version of this film comes in at around three hours. (HBO Max)

Written and directed by Alan Ball.
Nice to see Bettany do something that is not in the comic book movie genre.
He gave a Oscar worthy performance.

Domino Tubi
Keira Knightley, Mickey Roarke, Christopher Walken, Edgar Ramirez
A highly-fictionalized tongue-in-cheek version of the true story of Domino Harvey, British model turned bounty hunter,
Near the end of his career, Tony Scott had a period where he took his usual stylistic indulgences and quadrupled them, - Garish colors (sickly yellows and greens), floating subtitles, weird out-of-context edits. The script for "Domino" by Richard Kelly is actually quite clever at times, -and sometimes very crass, -but it sort of gets lost with all the visual excesses.
