Same here. Its critical acclaim completely escapes me.

I was entertained and based on a true story though some of the acting was questionable especially the guys who played the cops

Pearlman is not the lead. Mark Boone Jr was also in it.

It was better than what I first expected and first time I have seen Michael Pitt in years and he was good too.

Not of this Earth (1957) (D: Roger Corman). A surprisingly well acted movie featuring a cast who all had long careers, but the script was awful. An alien who's disguised as a creepy rich man in modern day California is killing people and draining their blood. A cute nurse gets assigned to be his live-in nurse. The only servant is a grinning cad who's trying to get into her pants, and she's dating a motorcycle cop. It's worth watching if you're into B movies. (Roku)

Shogun's Joy of Torture (1968) — Not quite sure what to make of this. It is my first foray into the "pinky violent" subgenre. Supposedly the three stories were partially based on documentation of real stories and each one is pretty bizarre and while not very good, can't say it's bad either, just doesn't have much substance other than men's desire to torture I guess. ***/*****

It is sad after 10 years when this movie came out Yelchin died in a freak accident and one time Felicity and Anton were a item.

Birds of Prey (2020) - Watch it first time on HBO Max and didn't think it was that good. Harley's voiceover was irritating

The Host - (2006), When I first saw it, it seemed long. Now it was better and I paid attention to the characters more.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Some Kind of Wonderful (1987) — After watching this, felt like a reverse version of Pretty in Pink only to find out afterward this was John Hughes's attempt to rectify the ending. I actually enjoyed this a lot more as I found the chemistry with the leads to be better (to me, Lea Thompson is an upgrade over Molly Ringwald). Eric Stoltz was great with both Thompson and Masterson.

Also had some fun subversion of expectations, particularly with Elias Koteas' punk character turning out to be an okay guy, plus John Ashton as the father was nice that he just wasn't the stereotypical jackass they tend to be in these teen movies.

Not sure where this ranks compared with other John Hughes films, but it's a solid entertaining time. ***/*****

It did not hurt that it had two hotties Ronan and Krueger in the movie

Showtime so guess it was not a Amazon original unless that applies overseas

Beanie Feldstein from Booksmart played the lead.

It had some moments but kind of boring

Not sure what movie you are referring to. The Host (2006) has not 'Ronan' or "Krueger' and the only 'hottie would be the alluring Bae Doona, who was also quite compelling in Cloud Atlas.

Thief - Mann hit the ground running with his first film. There were times that I thought this was really good, and other parts I thought didn't quite work. It had been a while since I had seen it so I really only remembered Dennis Farina's death. (HBO Max)

An American Pickle - Odd movie. Some of it worked; some of it didn't. I wouldn't recommend it unless you were a huge Rogen fan. (HBO Max)

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

The Detective (1968) (S: Frank Sinatra). Good for its time, I guess? A senior NYC detective investigates the murder of a homosexual man. He has to deal with a lot of anti-gay prejudice in the police department, and a culture of police brutality and police corruption. A big portion of the movie is devoted to flashbacks of the relationship with his wife, who's unfaithful. The plot moves on to a corruption case which touches a lot of powerful men and he's pressured to drop the case. The police investigation plot is very good, but the story of his marriage drags the movie down.

Apparently this movie is historically important because it was the first mainstream film that dealt with homosexuality in a serious way. But, man, is it dated. We're shown depraved homosexuals, nymphomania, several left-wing speeches which are out of place coming from a cop, no matter how liberal, and cringy psychiatry.

The book is based on a novel. The sequel novel was about the same detective trapped in a skyscraper that's taken over by German terrorists. That was adapted to be Die Hard. (Movieland TV)

Sorry I thought it was this movie but should have read 2006 in your post

No way could they make this movie today ands being gay was looked down upon and funny in 2001.

Probably Alyssa Milano would be embarrassed with this movie

Hulu

I think I finished all 3 Zoey Deutch movies available on Hulu.

I thought it was pretty good though the ending was kind of sketchy.

Tangled Disney 4K UHD

Animated Musicals had been pretty much dead at Disney at Disney until "Tangled" (a take on "Rapunzel"), which set the stage for and was completely over-shadowed by "Frozen". Nicely done, but while the songs are clever, none of them were memorable (or inescapable) as "Let It Go".

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Fear of Rain (2021) — Some interesting ideas that don't always mesh well, but I still was modestly entertained and liked the young actors, Madison Iseman and Israel Broussard. I'm no expert on schizophrenia but it seems like they did a good job with it, but could be wrong.

Spoiler:
The twist isn't a big surprise though they did kind of cheat in their attempts to fool the audience (it's one of those with a scene only there for the viewer).
But otherwise, I'd say it's fine as a rental. ***/*****

Super 8 - Hadn't watched this in around 7-8 years. I still think it is about 2/3rds of a good movie. (VUDU)

The Invisible Man Returns (1940). The brother of the Invisible Man from the first movie injects a very young Vincent Price, an innocent man who's condemned to death. He escapes prison and uncovers the real murderer. It's a good genre movie, and the earliest genre-aware movie I've seen. The police inspector warns the doctor, "If the monster kills, the scientist hangs!" (Svengoolie)
