Goldfinger - Did this one in the theater. From the positively shocking opening to Bond and Goldfinger "sharing" a private jet to go have lunch at the White House this probably remains the most entertaining Bond film. Not that it also isn't a little problematic; the stuff between Bond and Pussy feels a little rapey. Also don't think about it too much because if you do then Leiter's plan at the end seems really, really stupid.

Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell (2018)

I watched Dazed and Confused last night. I've seen it and least five times and I love, love, love it. It's one of my top 10 all time favorite movies. 5/5

It is on Starz
Lee Pace did not look as ridiculous as Alex Baldwin as John Delorean in that other DeLorean movie or doc.
Not awful but not great either.

The best scenes were with Carrell and Byrne but it had its moments but overall a disappointment.

Solo: A Star Wars Story...what a solid, fun fucking movie. i had a blast from start to finish. saw nothing wrong and loved all the homages and backstory to ANH. everything just clicked in this one for me. didn't expect to hear Williams music and loved the times they played it. it was just thoroughly enjoyable. a solid SW movie a solid sci-fi action flick. i'm really sorry i didn't watch this sooner, but after seeing the first 2 eps of this season of The Mandalorian, just felt like more of this universe and now i won't stop. i have Rogue One (3D) in for tomorrow and then the OT. can't wait. this was the perfect kick off. loved it so much.

Shoplifters (2018)
Absolutely deserves all the praise it received, though it is just as uplifting as it is depressing.
Wonderful performances from the Cast (especially Lily Franky, Kairi Jo & Sakura Ando).

The Hunter (1980) - McQueen's final film has him playing a real life bounty hunter. This is a strange movie that is just all over the place. First, there really isn't much of a story, just a series of vignettes. Some of the vignettes play like Dirty Harry or the French Connection; some of them play like the Cannonball Run. And the Tracy Walter story line is just weird. The only real through line is McQueen's relationship with his pregnant girlfriend which is really melodramatic, including the score. Just an odd movie.

Magic HBO Max
Anthony Hopkins, Ann-Margaret. Directed by Richard Attenborough. 1978
A wannabe stage magician finds success when he adds ventriloquism to the act. However, his dummy, Fats, becomes an outlet for his broken psyche as he becomes dangerously unbalanced.
I remember seeing this in the theater and being a bit disappointed, -I was expecting something "bigger", more shocking, and instead it's more of a Psychological Horror film that we used to get a lot in the early '60s. Watching it again, I'm still somewhat ambivalent. While it's well-written and certain sequences are well-staged, I think it's miscast. Don't get me wrong, -Anthony Hopkins is doing everything he can with the role, -its a good performance, -but he seems ten years too old for the part.

I watched Highlander today. I had never seen it before and it was sitting in my unwatched media pile. Overall, I liked the movie. The Queen soundtrack, Connery and Clancy Brown are great. Christopher Lambert is the worst part of the movie. He has a look of constipation on his face throughout the movie and his accent is strange. I would give the movie a 7/10, but I couldn't believe anyone would cast Lambert as the lead in this movie. He's emotionless throughout the whole movie.

Lambert had a brief time in the 80''s and early 90's where he got several lead roles
Maybe he was the Channing Tatum of his time with limited acting skills

McCabe & Mrs. Miller - I got on an Altman kick in the first few months of Covid quarantine, but I stopped sometime around June. This is a rewatch from a few years ago. It's certainly an Altman western, but that's a good thing. The Leonard Cohen music is a unique touch.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (3D)...exceptional this time around. absolutely exceptional. in 3D even Tarkin and Leia looked better than when i saw in theater. certainly the bleakest of the SW movies, but absolutely ranks up there with OT. a perfect prequel. just perfect. i was enthralled much more so than my first viewings. i'm killing myself that i gave this 3 stars originally. there is no way this is 3 stars. Edwards made this look like the OT. Even Lucas couldn't do that with the PT. this was dirty and fit in beautifully with the OT which i will begin again tomorrow night.
this movie deserves another look if anyone felt it wasn't up to SW par the first or even second time. just an amazing, SW adventure that sets up the next 6 beautifully.
The OT is only reserved for , but this is absolutely 4.5. my original 3? no way in hell!!!

Camp X-Ray - Kristen Stewart stars as a army private assigned to Guantanamo Bay. While there she develops a friendship of sorts with one of the detainees. Even though I figured out the ending in some form during their first interaction, I still thought this movie was pretty effective. Stewart can be hit or miss for me, but I thought she was good in this.

Star Wars - After last month's successful Back to the Future rewatch, I decided to watch my most overwatched film of all time. I probably hadn't seen this in at least 15 years, and it had been even longer since I watched the "original" film. Truthfully, it didn't really hold my interest. Sometimes you've just seen a movie too many times.

Based on a true story though it did not get really exciting until the end and Radcliffe is too young to play that role.

The Rookie (1990) - It's certainly not one of Clint's best works as either actor or director. While there is no shortage of logical fallacies in this movie, the one most pointed out at the time is no less ridiculous 30 years later. So for your villains, you've cast Raul Julia and Sonia Braga as Germans....
