Gone In 60 Seconds Amazon Prime

From the heyday of Jerry Bruckheimer films. Retired car thief Memphis Raines has to steal 50 high-end cars in 24 hours if he's to save his brother from a vicious crime lord. Nicholas Cage, -back when he was doing big money Action films, -leads a surprisingly deep roster, where every role seems to have a familiar face or character actor Directed by Dominic Sena, and every scene seems to be shot at night, or at sunset. From 2000, it preceded "Fast and the Furious" by a year as the return of the "Car Movie". I know it's all flash, but it was still fun to re-visit.

Jojo Rabbit - it's good, but I like Waititi's other movies more.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

The Tax Collector (2020) — I like David Ayer. Based on interviews and his social media postings, seems like a cool guy. As a filmmaker, he's hit or miss ranging from some really solid action-thrillers like U-571, End of Watch and Fury to the poorly made flicks such as Sabotage (though has its moments) and Suicide Squad (which I've soured on over the years).

His latest, the second one straight-to-streaming following Bright, is The Tax Collector, seemingly aspiring to be some sort of modern day Godfather. The editing here is rather bad, acting was mixed with Shia LaBeouf shining brightest to the point I wish the movie was about his character while Bobby Soto has some okay scenes but in the lead, never quite works. And the writing, also by Ayer, was shoddy (shows Training Day was all about Washington's performance than the story or dialogue).

I wanted to really like this film. It had potential and starts off well enough, but after meandering for the first hour or so, doesn't really get off the ground once a story actually kicks in. By the end, despite trying to have some emotional scenes, and a finale that was supposed to be kick ass, never could rebound from all of the other shortcomings. **/*****

I had a 50% off code from Vudu and I could watch it in HD which was cool.

Hollywood does not make these kind of thriller suspense movies anymore which were staples of the 90's and early 2000's.

Split Second (1992) — Tonally awkward at times and mismatch of various genres with apocalyptic-future science fiction horror mixed with buddy cop comedy, but for all its flaws, found this to be an absurdly entertaining film thanks to Rutger Hauer's charmingly gruff performance. Some interesting production design clearly inspired by Blade Runner, especially early on, and the brief moments we see the creature looks like a cross of the xenomorph and Venom. ***/*****

Vanity and Sharon Stone were smoking.

It was a shock when died in 2016 and she died in Fremont where I live.

I guess if you want to get out of the spotlight you move here.

Another 48 Hours Amazon Prime

It's a really solid film, but it just doesn't have even a single scene that makes it memorable.

Ironheart (1992) — Poorly made martial arts action-thriller stars Britton K. Lee who has zero ounce of charisma, but beyond that even the fights are mundane and lifeless, plus the editing and ADR was terrible. Only positive side is I liked the cheesy opening song (something out of the 80s) and there were at least a couple funny bad moments, just not enough to sit through the entirety. */*****

I forgot I watched this in Jan 2014 when I checked rotten tomatoes

Sean Penn had a memorable cameo in a forgettable movie though it had a cast Woody Harrelson and Azaria that would go on to bigger and better things.

One of those movies that's been on my list forever. Was pretty entertaining. J.T. Walsh was great.

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

No matter how many times I watch this film, its finale is has stayed both exhilarating and tense.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly (2018)

It was really great to see Broly re-worked into the main Dragon Ball timeline.

Fun film with some fantastic fight sequences!

Psychic Killer Amazon Prime

The film actually opens with the title "The Kirlian Force". Low budget 1975 thriller with Jim Hutton as a mild-mannered man just released from prison, who gains the power to remotely kill the persons responsible for his wrongful conviction and the death of his mother. It's a fairly threadbare production, cast with lots of Movie stars from The '50s who were then all over TV in The '70s. You can see that the actors are trying to flesh out the script (and their parts) by doing lots of Theatrical business and pumping up the dramatic dialogue. It's somewhat entertaining if you can appreciate it for its cheesiness.

Vampires vs The Bronx Netflix

Three teens try to save their community from trendy vampires bringing Death and Gentrification to their Bronx neighborhood. Pleasant mix of Humor and Horror with the feel of the early Spike Lee films.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. We went into it knowing nothing about the movie. Mrs Danger was getting unpleasantly tense waiting for the tragic murder of Sharon Tate. We liked the way Tarrantino handled the situation. Afterward, I realized that the title should have been a clue.

Knives Out. It was a hoot. Mrs Danger is a huge fan of murder mysteries and she's gotten me into them. So we had fun with it, both spotting the references to other stories and trying to figure out the solution.

Time Trap - Netflix

It’s low budget sci-fi, but I fucking loved this movie.
