Ford V Ferrari (2019)

Really enjoyed this film. The races felt exciting and the performances from Matt Damon & Christian Bale were fantastic.

Even at 152-minutes, the film was paced extremely well and didn't feel like drag to get through.

Loved this movie. Thought Phoenix was great...Woody Allen movies can be pretty hit or miss (at least, his recent ones), but I gotta give him credit for basically putting out a new one almost every year...And this is one of my favorites, right along with Midnight in Paris and Blue Jasmine...

Maybe it went over peoples heads or if they see it now might look at it differently.

It lived up to the hype and now can see why it won best picture

Deceived (1991) — Second time watching, still not a good 90s thriller and there wasn't enough of a mystery element to sustain its usually adequate 100-minute running time, and probably 15-20 minutes could have been shaved off. However, nice seeing Goldie Hawn in a non-comedic role and John Heard has his moments. The finale at least was entertaining (if not giving an unintentional lol moment), most everything before was really slow and dry. **/*****

The Host (2006)

It's been a while since I re-watched this film and it was just as enjoyable as I remembered.

Even though the Creature FX had budget restrictions, it looks fantastic, especially the initial sighting.

Appreciated the use of both practical & CG FX.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge (2020) -- Animated.

Loved it. Pure violence blood, guts and mayhem for 80 minutes. It's a Scorpion origin story as well as an origin story for the MK tournament. It does end on a cliffhanger, so a sequel seems to be in the works.

Tin Cup (1996) — Nice sports-rom-com that works thanks to the chemistry between Costner and Russo (and generally she's great against any male lead) and there are some good sports moments, even if it is golf. A bit on the lengthy side at over two hours but still an entertaining enough flick. ***/*****

A forgettable action movie and a paycheck movie for Hawke

Maybe Uma needed the money from the divorce settlement?

Extraction on Netflix.

Very predictable story line in my opinion. The end left no shock to me. If you are looking for something that has a lot of strong action sequences and will cover 90 minutes of your house arrest then you could do a lot worse than watching this Russo Brothers produced film.

Joint Security Area (2000)
It took me such a long time to finally see this movie but it was probably my misguided notion that this was a political intrigue movie. It had very little of that and I really enjoyed this movie and the performances of all of the actors involved.

I went in fresh since I heard about this story but never went into the details but a good movie though maybe it would have been better as a independent movie instead of the big glossy studio film.

I remember a previous poster mentioned this

Maybe it would be a completely new experience if you watched this on some mind altering substances.

Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Downey Jr must have had aneurysms filming that movie and they were insane.

The transfer did not look that great though it is loaded with images and stock footage flashing on the screen constantly.

Probably the first movie that ended the image of Woody from Cheers.

The feel good movie of 2016 though maybe it would be a good idea to do some of these things if your significant partner is about to pass

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

I feel a bit torn by this movie. On the one hand, it includes in its plot the realities of being a single parent for a character who is still very young and doesn't want to give up her dreams. On the other hand, I think the movie lets the lead character off too lightly and that she's rewarded for doing too little. A lot of the negative aspects of the lead get a pass because she's obviously extremely talented. I'd be really curious to see how the story would play out if the lead had been William Hung.

The performances are pretty stellar in this movie with Jessie Buckley putting in a star-making turn as Rose-Lynn, the girl from Glasgow with dreams of finding stardom in Nashville. This girl can sing, and I'm very tempted to buy the soundtrack because it consists almost entirely of her covers and she's damned good.

This movie was really a victim of bad timing because it did the festival circuit in 2018 before getting a very limited spring release in 2019. Had it gotten any kind of push during awards season, Buckley, Julie Walters (as her mom), and Sophie Okonedo (as Rose-Lynn's benefactor) should've gotten proper looks for acting awards because they are all great in this movie.

Some reviewers have compared Wild Rose to Cooper's A Star Is Born, and I can certainly see the similarities. I give the edge to Wild Rose because it's not afraid to have an extremely flawed and sometimes downright irresponsible protagonist while addressing very grounded real world issues that a lot people can actually relate to. Also, Gaga did an adequate job acting in ASiB, but Jessie Buckley is the total package.

Despite my feeling that the lead character perhaps needed to learn some tougher lessons, I still think Wild Rose has a lot of good stuff in it. This is really the epitome of under-seen gem.

Devil in a Blue Dress -- had never seen it before and it was pretty badass. Man, whoever thought Don Cheadle could play a straight up G in this. He was awesome. I am surprised they never made more films. There's like 12 books in the Easy Rawlins series. I saw this on STARZ.

This was pretty good.

Maybe Jackman will get Emmy consideration.

I actually had never seen this before until today. It was pretty bad ass. I didn't want to blind buy the BD, so I used some Amazon credit and rented the HD of it.

Evil Dead (2013) (Extended Cut)

Easily one of my favorite Horror Remakes in the past 10 years.

I realize many don't enjoy it as much, as it lacks the humor & memorable characters of the original.

What I appreciate about Fede Alvarez's film is that it's absolutely merciless. I also enjoyed Jane Levy's performance.

Ghost in the Shell (ScarJo version).

Not nearly as awful as expected. Nice visuals and interesting that they incorporated the whitewashing into the plot.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

(Based on **** star rating system)

The Domestics (2018) *** - Pretty entertaining film. A little like the Warriors in a post apocalyptic setting.
This Gun for Hire (1942) ***1/2 - Classic Noir with one of Ladd's best performances. Whenever I watch one of his films I always watch for his height compared to others....Laird Cregar looks like a giant and Veronica Lake (who was 4' 11"), looks average height.
In the Fade (2017) ***1/2 - German film about a woman dealing with the death of her family by Neo-Nazis. Not a film if you are in the mood for something light, but I am rarely in that mood. Diane Kruger was excellent.
Who's Minding the Store (1963) ***1/2 - One of my favorite Jerry Lewis films. Frank Tashlin's animation past can clearly be seen in the finale with the vacuum cleaner gone amok.
Fedora (1978) ***1/2 - Billy Wilder's last great film. Reminds me of Vertigo due to it's denouement coming in the middle of the film.
Evolution (2015) *** - French sci-fi film which was beautifully shot and leaves quite a bit to the audience's interpretation. Definitely not for everyone.

Lady Snowblood (1973)

Pacing is a bit scattered at times but I love Meiko Kaji in this film (who also sings the fantastic title theme in the film).

Blood geysers & severed limbs galore!
