More of a comedy than a drama. It was entertaining though maybe it lagged near the final 20 minutes

Maybe Nolte was a little over the top.

As usual you need closed captioning to understand what he is saying.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Alphaville - I loved this Godard movie. One of my favourites. It takes a little while to get going (and takes a little while to wrap your head around), but the ending is amazing. Anna Karina just rocks in this movie. The last scene is so memorable...A lot of Godard's later movies were so intellectual it almost drives you nuts, but this one really had some heart in it, and has a very emotional ending...Would highly recommend that skeptics pick up the Kino Lorber Blu-Ray (which, by the way, looks and sounds terrific)...

Road Games (1981) — Uneven suspense-thriller does feature a fine performance from Stacy Keach but otherwise pretty disappointing as I normally enjoy these sorts of thrillers. Also has characters making bizarre, though luckily ultimately correct choices... 2.75/5

Hayden and his wooden acting though Kate Bosworth was ok and not awful.

Amazing detail for the era with all the 80's McDonalds packaging.

Christopher Robin (2018)

Love this film. So incredibly quotable.

Parasite 3D (1982)...got to say, they 3D’d the hell out of this one. The depth is amazing. The popout on some stuff actually made me cross eyed bc appeared so close, which not necessarily a good thing, but amazing I guess post conversion since 3D in 1982 was red/blue glasses and certainly not tech used, while rarely, on movies today. Even the title cards have great popout. Cheesy B horror movie, with a very young Demi Moore made much more fun!

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Angel Has Fallen (2019) — Some decent action, especially the one in the explosions in the forest, but the CGI was bad (I understand they wanted to keep the budget low, but they seem to overextend themselves) and the plot and in particular villains were predictable; I knew one of them and at least didn't string it out before the reveal, but the second one was too obvious and the motives had shades of Murder at 1600 which came out 22 years ago. But still like Gerard Butler, even though he seems to be getting... um, puffier lately, Morgan Freeman as always was good and Nick Nolte had a couple fun scenes. Shame, for whatever reason, they couldn't get Radha Mitchell back as Banning's wife, Piper Perabo at least wasn't as a stark difference from when Rachel Weisz was replaced by Maria Bello in that third Mummy movie... This was a serviceable enough action-thriller but nothing special on the whole. 3.0/5

Joe Flacoo's first movie role

Karen Gillan dresses down and not a lot of makeup either.

All About Eve (1950) — Excellent performances by everyone, especially Bette Davis, Anne Baxter and Gary Merrill, which kept me captivated more so than the story, though the dialogue was amazing. Nothing fantastic all in all but still entertaining. 4.0/5

Did not realize Bryce Dallas Howard was the voice of the dog until the closing credits.

Bad CGI work for the mountain lion.

Viva Knievel If you were around in The Seventies, this is a wonderfully entertaining piece of cheese. Motorcycle dareveil Evel Knievel as himself in an unintentionally hilarious Action Drama. Great cast, great costumes, great theme. It's on the TCM app through November.

RoboCop: Director's Cut (1987)Seen this several times over the years and still holds up well, story and satire wise, though certainly some of the effects were dated (in particular the death of one character falling out a window). Other than that, an entertaining and bloody 1980s action-thriller, where the sequels and a remake, and certainly the third entry, could not touch. Would like to think the proposed RoboCop Returns will succeed where other failed, but don't hold out much hope. 4.25/5

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Finally watched Jordan Peele's Us today and was immensely disappointed. It's close to a fiasco, coming on the heels of Get Out. It started off well, but began to go downhill as soon as the doppelgangers showed up. The finale, with its "everything but the kitchen sink" chaos and confusion, including a smattering of martial arts, was preposterous, and reminded me of how Aronofsky's Mother! went so disastrously off the rails towards the end.
As a writer/director, Peele knows his stuff when it comes to generating unease, and if he makes another film in this genre, I hope he returns to the subtly sinister mood that made the first three-quarters of Get Out so impressive. I did like the nods to horror classics like Funny Games, The Brood, and Kaufman's Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
4/10 overall. The performances and direction were fine, but the script was nonsense.

Taboo (1999)

Before gay cowboys in Brokeback Mountain, there was gay samurai in Nagisa Oshima's (of Empire of the senses fame) Taboo. Slow and dramatic but not mindblowing by far. Beat Takeshi is in this for completists.

Santo vs La Hija de Frankenstein (1972)

Mexican luchador (masqued wrestler) El Santo battles evil incarnate when Frankenstein's daughter, a demented scientist in her own right, creates a monster to take over the world. Classic and fun cheese from Mexico!

Brie Larson hooks up with a Indian dude. Lucky guy.

Saw this for free on Vudu and their multiple commercial interruptions.

The PLanet of the Apes (1968)

Classic sci-fi holds up very well. The confrontation between religious righteous conservative leaders who will go to any lenght to remain in power and validate their 'dogma' and more progressive and open minded scientists who wish to question order and the "scrolls' (or any 'good book'!) is still actual. A few years back in Canada there was a conservative minister for Science in Harper's government who was a creationist! Jesus Christ, how can you be minister for science in a supposedly modern country and believe we are all descendants of Adam and Eve! Talk about absence of genetic pool.

Cape Fear (1962)

Although it has some flaws and Scorsese expended nicely on a few ideas (the sexual tension between Cady and the teenage girl for instance) I still prefer this one by far. The last 10 minutes without dialogue when both men are tracking each other in the bayou are terrific.

Kippur (2000)

Interesting Israeli film about 1973's Arab attack on Kippur day. Could have been a film about any war really. No propaganda here. We follow a couple of friends who get separated from their unit and who end up serving in an aerial medical unit that goes to the front to bring back hurt soldiers.

Game Night (2018)

This was probably the 3rd or 4th time I've watched this film. Still hilarious.

The Shaggy Dog with Tim Allen. Good entertainment for the whole family. It even had some laughs.
