A Liar’s Autobiography: The Untrue Story of MOnty Python's Graham Chapman (2012)
Bizarre animated film based on Chapman's book and using his old narration which he had recorded a few years before his death (at 48 from a throat cancer). The directors used over ten different animation studios to do various chapters with totally different styles. Some are more successful than others. I had read it way back in the 90s and remembered it as funnier too. Here a few laughs here and there but not up to par with Python's films. It was nice to hear the Pythons (minus Eric Idle) doing all sorts of voices, including their own characters of course.
As a huge Python fan (the reason why I wanted to learn english!) I'm glad I saw it but can't see myself rewatching anytime soon.

Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht(1979)
I had seen this in the early 80s and wasn't too impressed. Although I like some of Herzog's films, I feel that he is sometimes overated as a writer. Even though he's an excellent director. A bit like David Lynch whom some people adulate (and I like some of his films too) and can't see the flaws in his work.
Here we have Kinski playing Count Dracula and the make up is perhaps the best part of the film. Isabelle Adjani plays Lucy, Jonathan Harker's (Bruno Ganz) wife but does so in an expressionist way like the silent film of the 20s. Strange choice. The production is also somewhat low budget (apart from the location shoots) and it shows at times. There are some nice seens but if feels too cold and emotionless to work for me. I'd rather the Hammer versions with their b-movie looks. Or the original Nosferatu for that matter.

Who Saw Her Die? (1972) — Middling Italian murder-mystery has its moments but like many of these giallo films, you get some puzzling editing decisions and distracting dubbing. As a fan of crime-dramas, this at least kept my attention but this isn't high on my list in the giallo-type movies. 3.0/5

Glad I did not do a blind buy for this like I did for the last Godzilla movie in 2014
It needed more monsters and less humans and it was way too long.

I thought it was rather bad. As was the previous one. Only Kong Skull Island is okay in this new franchise as far as I'm concerned.

The T-Men (1947) After a slow, narration-heavy beginning, this movie really picked up a lot of steam. Beautiful camerawork and lots of location shooting. I watched it on Tubi.

I didn't take it as a full-on comedy (like Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell films) but as a clever criticism of marketing and image-spinners in our media-obsessed society. And that part worked well for me.

But the message on "spin" is the pertinent point, I agree.

Lame. Back when japanese horror was fashionable and Hollywood was remaking (usually badly) one a month!

Mary Queen of Scots (2018)
Very watchable and I liked the different approach to all other films I've seen on the subject where both queens were not rivals and full of hate for each other but rather two 'sisters' who shared understanding of their position but who had to act for their respective countries. I don't know if that's faithful to history but it was nice to see an alternate perspective on the rivalry. And the Scottish landscape was eye-popping.

Still remember seeing this one and it was awful. Did you know there were TWO direct-to-video sequels (both released in 2008)? Instead of sets, they used green screen, even in scenes set in a room. I guess the filmmakers thought it would give it some kind of off-kilter style or something.

Tigers Are Not Afraid (2019)
A bit repetitive but full of fantastic imagery & solid performances from its young Cast.

Thx for mentioning that. Haven't re-watched Inglorious Basterds since it first came out on home video and didn't recall Bowie's song being used there. Will have to revisit.

Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) 4.5/5
Excellent drama that won Academy Awards for Best Picture, Actor, Supporting Actress, Director, and Screenplay. Also garnered a Best Supporting Actor nomination for then 8-year-old Justin Henry, who apparently remains the youngest actor ever to be nominated for a competitive Academy Award.
On the day an ambitious young NY advertising exec (Dustin Hoffman) learns he's been assigned a major account which may lead to partnership he returns home to find his spouse (Meryl Streep) is leaving, resulting in him having to juggle a demanding career with raising a 7-year-old son he has not been close to. Fifteen months later the spouse, having reestablished her identity and career, returns to NY seeking custody of their son.
Apparently during filming Hoffman was going through a messy divorce and Streep was grieving the death of her lover (John Cazale) which may have added to the authenticity of their performances.

The War of the Roses (1989) 3.5/5
So-so comedy about marriage breakdown that had enough LOL moments to make it an enjoyable watch for me.
When two young people (Michael Douglas & Kathleen Turner) meet during a weekend on Nantucket it is love at first fuck. Eighteen years later Douglas' character is a partner in a successful law firm, Turner's character has fulfilled her role as spouse & mother and has transformed a run-down mansion into a gracious home, and with their children off to college Turner's character decides it is time to reestablish her own identity and career. But neither character is willing to part with the home and will stop at nothing to attain sole possession.
