Re: Last movie you watched

Watched Prince of Darkness on Action Max today. DVR'd it from an early morning airing. Had not seen it in years.

Pretty good HD transfer for a movie that's about 27 years old.

Loved Jameson Parker's goofy bushy mustache.

After looking it up on IMDB.com, I didn't realize that Parker's love interest in the movie played by Lisa Blount passed away 3 years ago. She was only 53.

Vamp, fun little 80's horror film. It's a must see, just for Grace Jones' striptease.

From Dusk till Dawn is borrowed heavily from Vamp.

Re: Last movie you watched

Farmhouse I rented it because it was supposed to have a Kelly Hu nude scene in it. The scene was nothing much, just a little side boob and the movie was pretty bad. I'm not big on the horror/torture genre anyway but I do love thriller/chiller/mystery kind of movies. This has a bit of a twist at the end but not enough to save it from being long and slow. If you have an R rating you might as well go for it with some blood and nudity. IMDB viewers gave it a 5.5 average. I agree it should be in that region.

The Oranges

Another DTV indie comedy, this one about a close friendship between two families becoming strained when a husband sleeps with the other family's daughter, but this one's got a pretty solid cast - Hugh Laurie, Oliver Platt, Allison Janney, Catherine Keener. Story takes some unexpected turns, which elevated it above the norm, but it's ultimately forgettable.

Dead Man Down - 2/5

I'm really surprised this got a theatrical release. Even with Colin Farrell as the lead it felt like a DTV movie shot and edited in 2 days. Totally disjointed and just dumb, I don't know how the director expected anyone to connect with any of the characters when the movie starts in a way that makes you feel like you've already missed half the movie. Terrence Howard is also not a convinceable drug lord. He's too nice.

How was Still Mine? I'm a big fan of James Cromwell and Genevieve Bujold.

excellent, Cromwell is also excellent (as always), as is Bujold, but there's a certain sadness due to the thematic story line.

Empire of the Sun (1987)

Never saw it until tonight. Well done, if not a bit misguided at times. One of Spielberg's better films now, I'd say.

Rented:

Mud (2013): Pretty damn good movie. Deserves the 98% of Rotten Tomatoes.

Trance (2013): Very sexy and stylish thriller directed by Danny Boyle and starring Rosario Dawson, Vicent Cassel and James McAvoy

42 (2013): Jackie Robinson biopic. Really liked it.

Re: Last movie you watched

Rented tonight from Redbox:

Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia. Don't get why they associate this with the first movie. Doesn't even take place in Connecticut. It's an in name only low budget sequel.

Last Exorcism II Don't know why this needed a sequel. It was okay at best.

Paid only $1.30 for both on a rent 1 get 1 free promo code.

The last movie i watched was Side effects, what a beautiful and interesting movie plus it didnt let me get bored for a minute, It had a lesson in it as well that how dangerous drugs can be. Didn't get the concept of the movie till the end that was interesting suspense was there and acting was mind blowing.

Re: Last movie you watched

Rooney Mara was as usual brilliant. Her acting in Girl with draggon tattoo Impressed me and she keeps impressing me probably desreves an oscar one day. Katherine Zita jones was as sual brilliant she had a minor role to play but played it superbly. Movie as a whole was good and i would give it 9.5 out of 10 though IMDB says different.

The Wolverine: I'd give it a B or 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. Liked it. Thought it was a good addition to the X-Men franchise and better than the 1st Wolverine movie.

Re: Last movie you watched

Made a Coppola double header with:

The Wolverine - loved it.

Twixt - weird, trippy, and it's basically Coppola doing Twin Peaks.

Bram Stoker's Dracula - a classic.

Re: Last movie you watched

Elite Squad: The Enemy Within on Netflix.

Somewhat entertaining (mainly due to the Brazilian setting), but the political commentary was way too heavy-handed and the constant voiceover narration was really annoying.

Billed itself as an action film but after the opening sequence in the prison, there wasn't any.

Before Night Falls - 3.5/5

Biopic about homosexual Cuban poet & author Reinaldo Arenas and how he faces persecution under the Castro regime.
Worth watching for an amazing performance by Javier Bardem.
