Bullhead - 4.5/5

Belgian film about a farmer that gets involved with organized crime in the business of illegal hormone injected cattle.
This Oscar nominee for best foreign film is an amazing debut for both the director and star.

Harakiri Death of a Samurai (2011): watched this on Netflix last night. Very depressing movie with one of the most grotesque Harakiri scenes I've ever seen. Directed by Takashi Miike.

You should watch the original. As much as I like the remake, the original buries it.

Man of Steel - 2.5 / 5 - A lot of very good elements, poorly strung together and executed.

Trance - 3.5 / 5 - a very entertaining movie with great pacing and wonderful nudity from Rosario Dawson. Weak ending.

Forgotten? It was available on Netflix streaming for about a year straight.

Cohen And Tate (1989)

Great forgotten flick starring Roy Scheider and Adam Baldwin as a pair of mob hit men who kill a kid's family and kidnap him to take back to their bosses because he witnessed a crime. But these two hit men absolutely hate each other, a fact the kid quickly learns and exploits. Written and directed by Eric Red, with a great score that sounds like Harry Manfredini as channeled by Bill Conti. Shout!'s BD has a great commentary and lots of cut gory footage.

What? Not only was it on Netflix forever but it did modest box office. I don't know what's "forgotten" about it. And I wouldn't think a 2-year old movie is a classic yet.

I have not seen the remake but the original is one of the greatest films ever made.
Kobayashi & Nakadai are a director/actor combination that are hard to beat.
Yeah I dare say in some cases even better than Kurosawa & Mifune.

Pacific Rim: 4 out of 5. Saw it in Imax 3D. Watched it with a friend of mine and we had a blast.

Magic Mike (2012)

My chick had been dying to see this, and a friend recently told me it was different than expected. He was mostly right - plays like a modern Saturday Night Fever meets Showgirls, only with dude strippers. I wasn't a fan of Soderbergh's use of yellow filters in every scene outside the club. I liked it. My gf was going nuts like a cat in heat during every strip scene. I can't imagine seeing this in a theater full of rabid women.

Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths - Better than I expected. Hopefully it didn't raise the bar too high for this pile of unwatched DC Animation I have.

Ghost (1990). My girlfriend had never seen it and it's been a good 15 years since I saw it so we decided to watch it again the other night. With the exception of a few dated, cartoony effects it holds up extremely well. A very touching love story! And I hate chick flick romance movies.

It made it all the more emotional knowing that Patrick Swayze has passed away.

The Driver - 4/5

Cat and mouse game between a determined cop and a getaway driver. Contains some of the best car chases ever filmed and was a big influence on Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive.

I bet when he made the movie he didn't know it was autobiographical.

Harakiri (1962).

Absolutely brilliant film. A lot more violent than I was anticipating but it's a great use of violence to express its point.

The Criterion Blu-ray's audio and video is top notch. The video especially looks like it was filmed yesterday!
