Cloud Atlas

Such a great film. I've watched it 3 times already and keep finding new and subtle nuances that I didn't catch in earlier viewings. If I had seen it in theaters it would have been on my top 10 lists of last year. The Blu-ray is stellar.

Chronicle (2012)

Not an original film (or story) by any means but enjoyable. My only issue was with the inconsistent writing of the character of Andrew Detmer.

Long Pigs (2007)

Would have been stronger as a shorter film. Has maybe 30-40 minutes of filler that really make the film drag ass.

The Pink Panther, the one with the hong kong ending and the boardwalk salty sea captain disguise. Burt Kwouk was incredible.

The Birds - 5/5

Thousands of hostile birds converge on a small California town and wreak havoc. One of Hitchcock's best.

Re: Last movie you watched

The Great Gatsby! We went and saw The Great Gatsby last weekend and really enjoyed it. Much more appreciative of the work now. The Redford/Farrow 1973 version always left me flat; this one is much more vibrant. Leonardo is so good and engaging; only the actress playing Daisy seems off; not captivating like Daisy should be. After all, Gatsby worked 5 years to be able to see her green light!
Also, this version uses the wonderful Fitzgerald writing so much better and actually works these awesome lines right into the movie...

And as I sat there brooding on the old, unknown world, I thought of Gatsby’s wonder when he first picked out the green light at the end of Daisy’s dock. He had come a long way to this blue lawn, and his dream must have seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp it. He did not know that it was already behind him, somewhere back in that vast obscurity beyond the city, where the dark fields of the republic rolled on under the night.

Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter — to-morrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. . . . And one fine morning ——

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
