Jumanji (2017). The reviews got me really excited to see this film...so it was nice to have a smile on my face when I left the theater, fun movie that has some lines that genuinely make you chuckle out loud. My dad also enjoyed and I heard some kids say they like it better than the first Jumanji so Sony has a winner on their hands and the box office is also solid.

I won't go so low as the Hallmark Channel but I will stoop low enough to watch this every year. Has some good lines. I like trying to spot the differences in height with Witherspoon to Vaughn from one shot to the next since she had to stand on a box most of the time.

I watched A Christmas Prince today. It's not my typical movie, it's essentially a Hallmark Christmas movie, but with better production values and a much better lead actress in Rose McIver from iZombie. I surprisingly enjoyed it. 3.5/5

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

I saw Thor: Ragnarok a 2nd time today. Wanted to catch it before it left theaters.

I originally saw it opening weekend, but unfortunately I dozed off during it and missed about 20-25 minutes of the movie.

This time I managed to stay awake the entire movie and caught all the scenes that I missed.

I don't think I'll be watching this one again anytime soon. I'll be more than patient when it comes on home video and will wait until it becomes cheaper.

The Apartment (1960) — Just a wonderful drama-comedy-romance, fueled by Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine and Fred MacMurray, the latter going against type. 4.5/5

Justice League.

I went in expecting the worst and that wasn't far off. Dull, goofy movie with a really gaudy visual design.

Today we watched my favorite Christmas movie as a kid that my wife hadn't seen (Santa Claus: The Movie) and my wife's favorite that I hadn't seen (The Santa Clause). I strongly dislike Tim Allen but other than that it was an ok movie. It would have been far better with a decent lead actor.

Being sick during the holidays means you get to watch movies while in bed all day, right?

Today I watched: King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017), The Dark Tower (2017), Seven Pounds (2008), and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring EE (2001).

Enjoyed this. Now that war movies have tried to go so real and bloody, seeing a PG-13 war movie seems like they are keeping things too clean. You certainly got the point of what they went through though. Overall a good flick and nice addition to my 4k collection.

Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017) — In your face and violent throwback to the 70s, I was initially worried when I saw Vaughn tear apart a car, was a bit too comical, but after that was really impressed with him and the lean story which somehow did manage to stretch through its lengthy 130-minute running time. 4.0/5

Logan - Great flick; didn't live up to all the hype I've read going into it. Succeeded in making a very different type of superhero film, great acting, good cinematography; dull plot, too long, sad send-off for both characters.

Star Wars - I can see some of the complaints people had with this movie but overall I found it a good couple hours. It was a tad too long and had some inopportune humor. Actions scenes were spectacular. I think this will move into my top ten and one of the fringe titles will bounce off. Probably Kingsman 2. Fun for a sequel but not top notch material with the other good movies I've seen.

The Shape of Water...just sublime. Every single actor in that cast was in top form. Sally Hawkins was a revelation and should win the Oscar. Doug Jones brought humanity to a costumed creature and if there was any justice, he would be nominated at least for this, somehow. Jenkins, Spencer, Stuhlbarg, Shannon, just incredible. This is del Toro at his finest. The movie had it all and i got sucked in and loved it more than any other film in 2017, hands down.

The Mountain Between Us (2017) — Not great but not that good either. Primarily succeeds thanks to Idris Elba and Kate Winslet moreso than the plot or dialogue. Also is a bit plodding as well but enjoyable enough if not forgettable. 2.75/5

Klute
Churchill
The Ghoul

Klute was great, Churchill was ok, and I did not get The Ghoul at all. Looks pretty, though. They were all library rentals, so free was the name of the game.
