Gymkata (1985) was on TCM this weekend, I recorded and watched it, barely remembering anything other than renting it as a very young child.
For a movie whose plot is completely idiotic, its impressive how suspenseful and exciting the last portion of the movie is.
Given a chance, I'd watch it again in another thirty years.

Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017) — Reminds you there once was that Eiffel 65 song, "Blue" after which you curse the screen making you remember there once was that shitty song. Not a terrible movie but wholly forgettable.

I watched Table 19 today. It was merely ok. I really like the cast and premise, but I found the storylines and comedy a bit lacking. 3/5

Police Academy - Netflix. Such a fantastic comedy...this film also has a ton of heart.
To The Bone - Netflix. It was good, but definitely not a feel good film.

Not really a fan of this movie but the wife wanted to see it again. When we were in Scotland we went to go see Rosslyn Chapel which is shown at the end of the movie. Found out they used to get about 6000 tourists a year. When the book was published it jumped into the 70's and when the movie came out, the number went to 170,000+ per year. At $10 a head.

Rambo First Blood Part 2 - IFC Channel. Still such a fun movie...I can watch Stallone let loose and single-handedly take out half of Vietnam any day of the week. The scenes with him in the chopper taking out the POW camp are action scene masterpieces that you rarely get to enjoy with modern films that take full advantage of CGI.

Better picture. Better sound. Far superior to the HD DVD it replaced. Plus it has the original theatrical sound effects. A+
Between the car and the comedy one of my favorite movies of all time.

Kidnap (2017)
Starring Halle Berry as a single mother who's son is abducted at the park. She then goes on a high speed pursuit in the highways of Louisiana in pursuit of the kidnappers with her son.
I actually thought this movie was quite riveting. Plot-wise it was like a TV movie of the week, but it did have some pretty violent car crashes and deaths to warrant an R rating.
Apparently it was shot 3 years ago and had been sitting on the shelf because of Relativity studios financial problems.
War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)
Good wrap up to the rebooted apes trilogy. Mainly carried by the awesome work of Andy Serkis. Just some amazing CGI with the apes.

War for the Planet of the Apes...wow. what an emotionally resonant movie. a fitting way to end an excellent trilogy. Dawn is still my favorite, but this was so far the best movie I've seen all summer. To care about CGI animals in such a way is movie magic imo. Caesar's quest and journey through it all was magnificent and Andy Serkis deserves all the credit. Did he voice him too?
Either way, this movie was just an emotional wallop and i love the way it ended and tied it all up, saddened too, of course.
Don't see where the franchise can go from here, if at all, but what an incredible way to go out. So well done.

La La Land - 3/5, It was good, but after all the hype about it during awards season I was expecting so much more. It definitely proves that Hollywood loves movies about Hollywood.
