Jeff, Who Lives at Home -- really enjoyed this one. I usually can't stand Ed Helms but he was pretty good in this one. Had some really great brilliants of comedy in an otherwise darker drama.

21 Days In Munich starring William Holden and Franco Nero. Very well made film which I had never heard of. I enjoyed it more than Spielberg's film.

Available on Netflix.

Something Wild (1986)

This felt like a test vehicle to see how well Daniels can carry a film on his own. He can't. It's a series of misadventures that aren't outrageous enough to be funny, but they aren't believable enough to feel serious. Picks up a bit once Liotta shows up, but he's a one-dimensional crook.

But dat ass. And dat rack. Griffith in '86 was some pice of ayse.

Lost in La Mancha

Oh, man, I felt so bad for Gilliam and everyone involved while watching this. What a painful meltdown to what appeared to be a troubled production right from the very start.

Side by Side via Netflix Streaming - pretty interesting doc about the transition from celluloid to digital with input from a ton of top tier talent.

Sushi Girl

I had fun with this one. Simple story of a heist gone wrong, guys try to figure out who screwed them. But there's a killer cast - including Tony Todd, Mark Hamill, James Duval, Sonny Chiba, and more - and some nasty gore effects are employed. There's not much to it, but it's worth checking out if you want to see something a little different.

The Loved Ones

Oh man, this was just ALL KINDS of fucked up. How did this Aussie horror flick slide under my radar for so long? My stomach is still churning just thinking about it. Not gory for the sake of gore, but it's certainly full of absolutely unsettling, blood-churning moments. And lots of black humor. Think Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Pretty In Pink. Highly, highly recommended.

Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry on TCM Underground. An old 70s carsploitaton flick. Fun cast (Susan George of Straw Dogs, Peter Fonda, Vic Morrow. A few cool car stunts, a bit of that verisimilitude that most of the 70s neo-realistic pictures seem to have, but not up to par with Vanishing Point or the original Gone in 60 Seconds, and even at a lean 93 minutes, it feels like it drags a bit. Kind of stupid twist ending too.

Eye See You (2002) - You know, with a 6-month old at home, I really should start to learn that there are better things I could be doing with my time.

OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

saw a matinee of this today. enjoyed it for the most part. could've easily been an absolute disaster but Raimi managed to keep it fun. my only major issues were with some wonky CGI effects and i didn't really buy Kunis as the wicked witch (the make-up and her round face just didn't match with Hamilton's). i really wish Weisz and Kunis had swapped roles as i think she could've pulled the character off better. Williams was well casted and Franco was passable. 3.5/5
