Toad Road - 2.5/5

A student starts hanging out with the local druggies and gets caught up in their world. She hears of a local urban legend about a path in the woods that leads to the seven gates of hell and becomes obsessed with it. So much wasted potential. Should have focused more on the horror elements and less on the drug culture. It's a damn shame because trapped between the repetitive meandering nonsense of this film are moments of brilliance.

Bram Stoker's Dracula - 2.5/5

Remembered liking this, but after watching it 20 years later I'm a bit disappointed. Francis Ford Coppola tries to make up for the weaknesses in the script with many impressive stylistic flourishes but fails at reigning in the overly melodramatic acting and toning down the mushy Harlequin romance between Mina and the Count. This film is practically the complete opposite of Murnau & Herzog's brilliant interpretations of the same source material. Too much style and not enough substance.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Caught a matinee today. Would give it 3 1/2 stars out of 5 or a B.

I liked it more than I thought I would. It did skirt the rating, which was cool.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

The Grey Zone (2001) (Would've been much more stronger if it was in a foreign language)
Cashback (2006)
Berberian Sound Studio (2012)
The Wicked Lady (1983)
San Andreas (2015)
Dangerous Crossing (1953)
Fast Sofa (2001)
(Liked it, but having Jake Busey as the lead didn't make for a pleasant experience)
Anatomy of Hell (2004)
Folies Bergère de Paris (1935)
In the Year of the Pig (1969)
Big Eyes (2014) (Came so close to liking)
Q (2011)
House of Strangers (1949)
Hawaii (1966) (Biggest surprise of the month)
Blowback (2000)
A Bridge Too Far (1977) (Some good, effective action sequences for it's time)
Ip Man 2 (2010) (As usual, the white "Actors" always ruin these movies)
Warlock (1989) (Surprisingly had fun with this)
Spy (2015)
Judex (1963) (Better than the original)
Lumberjack Man (2015) (Well, for cheesy gore and T&A, it got it's job done)
Crossroads (1942) (Biggest snoozer of the month)
Rampage: The Hillside Strangler Murders (2006) (Just could've used less 360 cam)
My Blueberry Nights (2007) (Natalie Portman as a blonde was yummy)
Poltergeist (2015)
Vicki (1953)
Mood Indigo (2013)
Aftershock (2012)
The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings (1976)
Track of the Cat (1954)
Warlock: The Armageddon (1993) (Had even more fun with this one. But there sure was a sh!t-load of screaming in it)
Artists and Models (1955)
Kiss of the Damned (2012) (Was this supposed to be a remake of Daughters of Darkness? If so, I liked this WAY more)
Leprechaun 3 (1995)/Leprechaun in the Hood (2000)/Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood (2003) (3 was the best)
Goodbye to Language (2014)
Rize (2005)
Cop Car (2015)
Everest (2015)
Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro (1979)
(This is the type of Miyazaki I prefer)
The Two Mrs. Carrolls (1947)
Phantom of the Rue Morgue (1954)
Import/Export (2007)
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015)
Revenge of La Llorona (2006)
Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) (Would have tolerated it more if it were a half-hour shorter)
The Janitor (2003) lol
No Regrets for Our Youth (1946) (I got lost with the politics, but the melodrama made up for it)
Warlock III: The End of Innocence (1999) (As expected, a big letdown. At least Angel Boris made things interesting to look at )
Smorgasbord (1983)
Sex and Lucia (2001)
Pee-wee’s Big Holiday (2016)
The Reflecting Skin (1990)
The Big Short (2015) (Best movie of the month)
Two Evil Eyes (1990)
Cast a Dark Shadow (1955)
Crowley (2008)
Lilith (1964) (Wanted to really like this one. Just couldn't get into it)
The Peanuts Movie (2015)
Nightmare (1956)
Kiss Me Goodbye (1982)
The Sniper (1952)

Now let's start the Drive-In/Exploitation marathon!

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Zootopia (2016) theatrically with the wife and kid. Considerably less stupid and less musical than most kid fare (although the closing dance number and stereotypical Godfather and stoner humor are so, so tired), but nothing particularly groundbreaking or memorable, either. The entrance into the city by train was beautifully done.

Christine - 3.5/5

John Carpenter's film of Stephen King's novel about the twisted romance between a boy, his car and what happens to anyone who tries to come between them. Good middle tier King.

Exposed - Utter garbage and like Dying of the Light, another movie Grindstone Entertainment (a subsidiary of Lionsgate) mucked with, the movie results in a disjointed mess. 1/5

April Fool's Day (1986)

I remember hating this film the first time I saw it. It has finally grown on me.

The Danish Girl...very good. a little slow and plodding, but purposefully so. great performances, especially by Vikander.
