Toad Road - 2.5/5
A student starts hanging out with the local druggies and gets caught up in their world. She hears of a local urban legend about a path in the woods that leads to the seven gates of hell and becomes obsessed with it. So much wasted potential. Should have focused more on the horror elements and less on the drug culture. It's a damn shame because trapped between the repetitive meandering nonsense of this film are moments of brilliance.

Bram Stoker's Dracula - 2.5/5
Remembered liking this, but after watching it 20 years later I'm a bit disappointed. Francis Ford Coppola tries to make up for the weaknesses in the script with many impressive stylistic flourishes but fails at reigning in the overly melodramatic acting and toning down the mushy Harlequin romance between Mina and the Count. This film is practically the complete opposite of Murnau & Herzog's brilliant interpretations of the same source material. Too much style and not enough substance.

No Regrets for Our Youth (1946) (I got lost with the politics, but the melodrama made up for it)

Zootopia (2016) theatrically with the wife and kid. Considerably less stupid and less musical than most kid fare (although the closing dance number and stereotypical Godfather and stoner humor are so, so tired), but nothing particularly groundbreaking or memorable, either. The entrance into the city by train was beautifully done.

John Carpenter's film of Stephen King's novel about the twisted romance between a boy, his car and what happens to anyone who tries to come between them. Good middle tier King.
