Dallas Buyers Club - 2.5/5
Based on a true story about a cowboy homophobe who once diagnosed with AIDS changes his ways. Average film that's worth watching for Matthew McConaughey & Jared Leto's good performances.

The Devil's Backbone - 2.5/5
Ghost story/drama with more emphasis on the drama, during the Spanish Civil War in an orphanage. Not as good as I thought it would be. The Others was better.

Seconds - 4/5
Sci-fi/drama about a man who changes his identity in order to start a new life. An interesting critique on the emptiness of the American Dream.

Four Lions - 3/5
Decent black comedy about four bumbling British jihadists and their plan to make themselves martyrs. Contains some hilarious moments but most of the humor is hit or miss.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1- Shameless cash-in split in the franchise's final sequel. Filmed with the same crew, it doesn't have the action of its predecessors, focusing a little more on the politics, and feels slightly like a pulp sci-fi tale written by Karl Marx. Interesting, excellently cast and performed, particularly by Lawrence, Moore, Sutherland, and Hoffman. Very handsome and well made, but it feels like the half of a film which it is, and as a result, incomplete and unsatisfying, and frequently padded. The franchise has alas abandoned 35mm, and while the sheen is still stunning, the digital looks ever so slightly antiseptic. Probably just me
.
Written on the Wind- Douglas Sirk 1950s melodrama pitched somewhere between a soap opera and a Greek tragedy. A quarter of great performances are at the center of this tale of greed and lust, with Sirk's usual veiled but barbed social commentary, bright colors, and explosive emotions. An excellent film which is deeper than its surface would suggest.

Frozen- Disney CG animated feature was a box office juggernaut, shattering all kinds of records and spawning a gigantic marketing and franchising empire. Though occasionally falling short of the breathtaking digital cameras of Pixar and slightly by-the-numbers plot-wise, the film is visually stunning, full of toe-tapping musical numbers, well-performed by its voice-acting team, and throughly charming, though one particular plot twist seems to come out of left field. Olaf in particular is an inspired creation, Disney at their irreverent best. Thoroughly fun, and shows that their giant marketing baggage aside, when Disney are at the top of their game, they're very, very good.

I think that's the highest body count I've ever seen. Probably more than any war movie.
It's an old comment but there are so many DTV actors from the 80's they could have included instead of these youngsters. Rousey was the only one I knew

The Lego Movie (2014)
Fun/cute film. I almost died laughing at some of the Lego characters that would pop up.
Edge of Tomorrow (2014)
Lots of fun. 2 hours went by pretty quickly.

The Babadook (2014)
Great atmosphere and shot beautifully. I also loved Essie Davis in this. For all the things I enjoyed about the film, I felt the film was lackluster for me.

The Lords of Salem - 1.5/5
A coven of witches who were burned at the stake over 300 years ago return to seek revenge on the descendants of those responsible for their demise.
An over indulgent mess of a film that is more style than substance and is not one bit scary.

The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby - 7/10
Acting from the leads was really what made the film something other than Lifetime movie variety.

Sleeping Beauty (2011) - 4.5/5
Australian film about a college student who works various jobs in order to support herself. One day she answers an ad to work as a scantily clad waitress for a bunch of rich old men. This then leads to another job that while similar to prostitution, has a very bizarre twist. A smart, beautiful and disturbing film about the roles of both sexes when it comes to the objectification of women. A nice blend of Kubrick and Buñuel with a bit of Greenaway.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
The first time I saw this film, the group I went with got us there late. Got stuck sitting in the second row of the theater, basically looking up at the screen the entire time.
This film is so much better when you can actually see what is going on.

Tusk (2014)
I felt pretty lukewarm about this film. It was strong early on, but it never stays at that level for the rest of the film. Lots of questionable directions with the script in this one.
