Blue Is the Warmest Color - 2.5/5

Coming of age story of a young woman in high school who falls in love for the first time with an older woman in her twenties. I wanted to like this because I really felt for the lead character and it has some great emotional moments, but just like its sex scenes the film goes on for too long. There is a great 2 hour film trapped inside this average 3 hour film. A damn shame because the performance by Adele Excharpoulos is excellent.

Just watched this on DVD today. It stars A.J. Cook from Criminal Minds. Really well made and scary with tons of gore. Probably one of the best Werewolf movies I've seen recently.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Rented these 2 yesterday in addition to Wer, which I mentioned earlier.

Never saw the 1st See No Evil, but the sequel was a pretty standard torture porn horror movie. And yes, expect to see See No Evil 3 announced in the near future.

The lead is Danielle Harris, who played the little girl in Halloween 4. Hard to believe she's 37 now.

Deliver us from Evil was very meh. Even though it's supposedly based on true accounts, thought it was a pretty by the numbers Exorcist type horror movie.

The Forest for the Trees - 3.5/5

After ending an eight year relationship, a schoolteacher moves from the country to the city in search of a new life. Once there she realizes that no matter how hard she tries to fit in, her socially awkward behavior makes it more difficult. A good film that gets a little repetitive and could have used a better resolution.

Kingdom of Heaven (Roadshow Version) - 1.5/5

After the death of his wife and child, a French blacksmith becomes a crusader and heads to Jerusalem to wash away his sins. Another Ridley Scott film that looks beautiful on the outside and is empty on the inside. The story/dialogue for this film are terrible and I don't blame the writer for that, I blame Scott. The best thing about this are the visuals and that can only get you so far, especially for more that 3 hours. I was told that this version was vastly superior to the theatrical cut and now that I have seen it, I am not impressed. Don't even get me started on miscasted Orlando Bloom who was given the task of carrying this film on his shoulders. Congratulations Sir Ridley on making a modern epic that is just as bad as Alexander & Troy.

I got all pumped to see this movie then read that they kill his dog in it. I am such a pussy when it comes to seeing animal abuse I think it will ruin the movie for me. I watched Water For Elephants and almost had to turn it off due the abuse.

I know, I know. Loves action movies but is a candy-ass when it comes to animals. I admit it.

Birth of the Living Dead - Great doc. I guess I've never watched any special features or docs about this film before, because most of the info seemed new to me.

Had you never seen the Director's Cut before? I thought the Roadshow Version just added an Intermission title.

I had never seen the DC. I had seen the theatrical version before and hated it. Many people told me that I should see the directors cut because it is way better. I saw the roadshow version, which is 4 minutes longer than the directors cut because of intro music and an intermission. I found it to be just as bad as the theatrical version.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

John Wick. I too was bothered by the first death-by-violence in the film but it was offscreen at least.
It was action-heavy but seemed even more empty than a lot of action films.
I do agree that it was good the action scenes were filmed 'out' a little bit so you could actually see some of the action.
I felt like I was watching a video game.
Keanu Reeves still cannot emote.

Let's Be Cops - 3 out of 5 - I like stupid comedy.

The One I Love - 3.5 out of 5 - I didn't expect much going in but then I wanted more by the time the movie ended. It's a great low budget movie for a concept that could be expanded on.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Edge of Tomorrow- Lightweight but very enjoyable Tom Cruise vehicle that plays like a conflagration of Groundhog Day, Saving Private Ryan, and Starship Troopers. It doesn't have the spiritual resonance of the first, the technical virtuosity of the second, or the intelligent political satire of the third, but it's lots of fun. The aliens and Heinlein/anime-inspired battlesuits are disappointingly unimaginative in design and the execution and the action sequences doesn't bring much which is new, but what works in the film is surprisingly black sense of humor. Cruise is amusingly game to the self-deprecating gags where he's almost constantly kicked around, ridiculed, and emasculated, and his relationship with Emily Blunt as a warrior woman who looks like she wandered in from a James Cameron film is well-played if a bit under-egged, and Bill Paxton is a blast, chewing the scenery with his usual aplomb. Some critics have taken the film to task for basically being a video game with endless respawns and resets and big bosses, but the film has a nicely satirical edge, acknowledging this as well as its subtle subversion of genre movie tropes. Apparently not as big a box office draw as the creators were hoping, which is a shame, since it's still wittier than most lunkheaded blockbusters, and a nice slice of lightweight fun.

Cloak & Dagger - The MPAA would never allow that much gun violence in a PG-rated children's film today. I love the '80s.
