I recently called this one of the five best Sherlock Holmes movies ever made, and that opinion didn't change upon this revisiting. Anyone who's a fan of the BBC's Sherlock should check it out if they haven't already, since they're more than a little similar.

Y Tu Mama Tambien - 2.5/5

Coming of age tale about two competitive horny teens who embark on a road trip with the wife of one of their cousins in hopes of scoring with her.
On the trip they all lean lessons about life and each other. A mediocre, overrated and predictable variation of Truffaut's masterpiece Jules & Jim.

Pusher - 4/5

Gritty Danish film about a week in the life of a low level drug dealer in which anything that can go wrong does. Stripped of all glamor, the film shows us the stress and danger that goes with the business. Excellent debut film from Nicolas Winding Refn.

Made Of Honor Gripping and inspirational drama about a self-obsessed man who realizes when he is about to lose her, that his friend since college is really his soulmate. He fights and fights to win her over. I won't spoil it for anyone. You have to see this movie to find out the twist ending. Trust no one.

10/10 - two thumbs up.

Pusher II : With Blood on My Hands - 4/5

Second film of Nicolas Winding Refn's gritty urban trilogy focuses on one of the supporting characters from the first film. After being released from prison Tonny tries to get his life straightened out but being amongst friends and family is not making it any easier. Eight years after his debut with Pusher, Refn shows us how he has matured as a director by giving us this sequel that is in some ways similar in style to the first but with a tighter storyline that delves deeper into the characters.

Frank - what an odd, odd movie - but the vibe of the movie certainly makes it one of the strangest and most memorable movie of the summer.

I think it has its virtues. Cuaron really has a way with the camera, the performances are solid, the rawness and sexual frankness is refreshing, the political edge is interesting, and there's a degree of intelligence behind it. I don't know if it all quite coheres, but I find it ambitious. Haven't seen J&J in a while, found it hard to get through when I first saw it. I'll revisit it again one day.

Seven Samurai- In 35mm!! Yay! Something exciting happened in my life . Beat up print, but it's probably been knocked around all over the place, and since new prints aren't likely to be showing up ever again , it was a rare treat all the same, and I'm privileged to have had the opportunity. What a terrific film too. Raw, manic performance from Mifune, great ensemble cast, breathtaking cinematography, crisp editing, a smart screenplay, and Kurosawa's direction is still pretty electrifying after 60 years. It's also amazing to see what kind of a shadow it casts on action films even today. Crowd were mostly young-uns who tittered and giggled in the wrong places, didn't mean any other pretentious snobs like me . Truly, it was a privilege to see in 35mm. A magnificent film indeed. And even post-Braveheart, those battle scenes still have a hell of a kick.

The Maze Runner - 2/5 - This film was laughable.

As Above, So Below - 5/5 - This film scared the f_ out of me! Not suitable for children or teen. Its 21+ over to view this content. Overall, I really enjoyed it!

Pusher III : I'm the Angel of Death - 3.5/5

Supporting character Milo form Pusher & Pusher II takes over as the lead in the third installment. We see him preparing for his daughter's 25th birthday but can't seem to escape his personal problems & dirty dealings. Not as good as the first 2 films but still worth watching.

Shuttle - 1/5

Two young women on their way home from vacation take a shuttle bus ride from the airport that eventually turns into a nightmare.
Weak thriller is sunk by unoriginal predictable story and subpar acting.

Sauna - 4.5/5

In 1595 after a brutal war between Sweden and Russia, a commission comprised of members from both sides travel north through Finland deciding on where the new borders between countries will be drawn. On their journey they stumble upon an unknown town in which there lies a place that you can wash away your past history and sins. One of the better horror movies of the last 10 years, especially if you like your horror atmospheric, slow burn & artsy.

Documentary about a gay American writer who while in Ireland was brutally beaten by two young men leaving him brain damaged and in a wheelchair.
Ten years later he decides to visit Ireland again in order to come to terms with the incident that almost cost him his life and his career.

Nebraska - 2.5/5

Believing that he has won $1,000,000 in a magazine sweepstake, a Montana man gets his son to drive him to Nebraska. He does not trust the US Postal Service and wants to claim the prize in person. A typical road trip film in which a distant father & son get to understand each other and eventually bond. Another overrated predictable beautiful looking film from Oscar darling Alexander Payne.

Aired on Encore Action

Loved that they filmed this in Thailand. Hated Kevin Bacon's English accent.

Boyhood - 4/5

Twelve years in the life of a young boy as he matures into a young man and experiences life's ups & downs along with his family.
Very good but not great with some good performances by Patricia Arquette & Ethan Hawke.
