Soundless - 4/5

German thriller produced by Tom Tykwer about a methodical hitman who disposes of his targets without leaving any trace of ever being at the scene of the crime.
Not the most original film but still good because of its low key approach to the material.

Breathe In...a little boring and very predictable. performances from Pearce and Ryan seemed forced too.

If I Stay - 4/5 - I loved it but never read the book. The story was so heartbroken and the classic musical was beautiful.

Walk the Line- Largely by the numbers but effective and handsome pop biopic of country-folk-gospel-rockabilly legend Johnny Cash. Though only a portion of the story (As Cash's careers spans half a century, somewhat understandable.), and adhering a bit too closely to the rise-and-fall structure, the period ambience is nice, and the film appropriately captures the ferocity of the early Sun Recordings and their extraordinary vitality. Framed as a life story between Cash and Carter, and tying Cash's personal struggles into his songs in appropriate ways, it's a solid and handsome piece of work. Great soundtrack too, and fantastic performances from Phoenix and especially Witherspoon.

Need For Speed- Mind-bogglingly boring video game adaptation which makes The Fast and the Furious franchise look like high art. With an unnecessarily convoluted narrative which makes the film way too long and dearth of impressive auto stunts, the car porn of seeing so much cool exotic sheet metal as well as classic Motor City Muscle simply isn't enough. Why the hell is this thing 130 minutes long?! Simply stick to a classical exploitation "car + obstacles" structure like many classic carsplotation flick-Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry, Vanishing Point, Mad Max, Duel, Gone in 60 Seconds and embrace the trashy video game roots. No one is here for the plot, geniuses. Or if you're going to do it that way, at least actually make the narrative vaguely interesting. Ultra-glossy digital cinematography looks good, but is oddly cold, maybe over-processed? There's a post credits scene of a prison dance workout which is more terrifying than anything in Wes Craven's filmography.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For: eh... pretty meh in my book. and the 3D (even with it filmed as such) was pretty hit or miss.

Roulette - 2.5/5

Three dysfunctional individuals engage in a deadly game of Russian Roulette. As the game progresses we find out more about each of them and how their destinies have brought them together. A decent story that is brought down by incompetent acting.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Pompeii Completely derivative of other stories. Some nice fight scenes like Gladiator, a love story like Titanic. CG destruction like every other movie. Haven't done any investigating but according to reviews not even that accurate historically. Kiefer Sutherland had some weird ass accent. 2/5 at best

Filth...mixed feelings. was losing me here and there, but love McAvoy and he was riveting. loved the very last scene and the what i am sure is a coincidental nod to Wanted.

Tristana - 5/5

After the death of her mother, a young woman is left in the care of an older man. Her guardian eventually becomes her lover causing their relationship to become not one of love, but necessity. Another masterpiece from one of the greatest directors of all time.
