Favorite movies to watch during inclement weather
Does anyone else have any bad weather movie watching rituals? The first major snowstorm I always watch the Thing with a bottle of j&b. Today my work closed early because of this blizzard hitting Wisconsin so I got to cram in Runaway Train and Empire Strikes Back as well.

Usually the typical disaster movies, but for whatever reason I also turn to sci-fi like Star Trek movies, something that's good for marathons. Not a lot of specific examples, though.

Don't think that I really have any traditions, but your topic made me think it might be kind of cool to watch The Shining on the second or third day of being snowed in from a blizzard.

Fargo - I watched this on New Year's a couple years back when we got snowed in.
Anything Ridley Scott makes has rain in it so that's always good for stormy weather.

Halloween and Holy Grail are probably my two most often watched standbys for days in.

Little Giants, especially if it's rainy
any Christmas movie when it's cold. Especially the Patrick Stewart version of Christmas Carol
when it's late, Star Trek The Motion Picture

I wish I had more experience with this but it never rains in CA and we don't have snow, tornadoes, or hurricanes.
I think the Wolf of Wall Street in March 2014 was the last movie I watched while it poured outside.
Rainy day viewing is ideal and the best way to watch and obviously at night and not when the sun is still out.
I wished I lived in a city where we got snow in the Winter.

When it is snowing:
The Thing - Still one of my "go-to" movies...And I agree with the other commentator, I enjoy drinking J&B on the rocks when I watch this movie...
Fargo - In my top three of all-time, I still watch this two or three times a year...Love the score...
Black Christmas - A classic...Love the original, but occasionally I'll watch the remake (it wasn't completely horrible, in my mind)...
The Frozen Ground - Still think this is underrated...Love the Alaskan setting, and Cage and Cusack are great in this...
Die Hard 2: Die Harder - Underrated sequel...And while I hate airports and flying, I've always found it to be a unique setting for an action movie...
McCabe & Mrs. Miller
The Brood
When it is raining:
The Goonies - Something about the Northwest setting makes me want to watch this when it is pouring...
Snake Eyes - Still blown away by the opening sequence...The hurricane aspect is handled well by De Palma...
Crimson Tide - I know most of this is set underwater (obviously), but I particularly love the beginning...
First Blood: Rambo - Another movie set in the Northwest...
Back to the Future
Romancing the Stone - This movie just cheers you up if you're having a rotten day...
Kindergarten Cop - Vastly underrated Ivan Reitman movie...Enjoyable for adults and kids, even if (looking back at it now), it is a lot more violent than I thought when I was a kid...
When it is foggy:
The Fog - Obviously...but only the original by Carpenter...The remake sucks...
The Birds - Love the Bodega Bay setting...

First time I watched Master and Commander, a storm hit and there were gusts of wind and spray from the rain coming through the window screen. I would pay money to duplicate that experience! Great film.

I always watch Twister at least once during severe weather season(mid April-early June). Also The Empire Strikes Back during any major snow storm.

Re: Favorite movies to watch during inclement weather
I recently heard a presentation from a meteorologist who has a company that's been hired by Netflix so they can more accurately suggests content to you based on the weather. The audience had a moment of audible murmur dubiousness followed by an audible murmur of basically, "Yeah, well, we're not surprised."
As for a rainy day movie, movies with stark contrasts in color are fun for me, like Mad Max Fury Road.

During my first hurricane (Gloria) when I was 10- my dad introduced me to The Producers, and Blazing Saddles. These two have since become inclement weather staples for me
