I was actually looking forward to this (I enjoyed The Pursuit of Happyness) until I saw the trailer. Now I think it will be craptastic. I didn't like the flying, it just didn't seem to be believable within the universe of the film. I have MoviePass so I can see this without any charge so I'll go take one for the team and report back But based on that trailer, it looks like it will suck.

Re: After Earth (Shyamalan, Will Smith, Jaden Smith 2013) New, Rumors, Cast

I think it looks okay. I was ready to hate on it, but it looks at least a little intriguing. Why did the people have to leave Earth? How did the animal life evolve to all kill humans? What will Jaden find? The awe of exploring the new Earth was translated pretty well in the trailer, IMO.

I disliked The Village very much but Sixth Sense, Signs and Unbreakable were awesome, so maybe this one will be back to the quality of those films. I doubt I'll see the movie though because I don't like either of the actors headlining the film.

Trailer looks OK. What amuses me is how much Smith's line readings sound like Samuel L. Jackson's from Unbreakable.

...that was pretty mediocre. Never had much thoughts on this aside from the forced nature of this project. Meh. If it gets good word, I'll see it. Otherwise...not buying what that trailer is selling.

Looks exactly like what I thought it would.
A vehicle to further Jaden Smith's 'acting' career produced by his father & uncle and directed by a former a-lister who is now a director for hire.

I like it. Good trailer. I thought this movie was just announced or something. Didn't know it was coming soon.

I like the sci-fi premise that nature evolved to make humans extinct. Pretty much what happened in The Happening. Only The Happening was harder to swallow, with anti-human tree pollen killing everyone. Unless something catastrophic occurs, I think it'd take a lot longer than 1000 years to weed out humans.

I did get the point that they're simply on Earth - 1000 years from now, right?

It's not that nature evolved to make humans extinct it's that shit happened on Earth that forced humanity to leave Earth. And now Earth has evolved since that event.

Or maybe I'm reading what you're thinking incorrectly, troystiffler.

That's what I thought. Not sold in the slightest. All I can say is that they are being pretty upfront about it being Jaden Smith's movie and Will is just a supporting character.

Is Will Smith's character a ghost in this movie?

The twist is that they landed on Earf after all the plants killed mankind, and now alien-like creatures have evolved that are killed by water, and Will Smith's character is actually a ghost that guides Jaden Smith's character to the last man alive, who lives under a lake, in a wheelchair because his bones are very fragile.

Meh. It looks like it'd be a decent watch, nothing I'd venture to the theater for. I like the concept, but the clearly-CG environments and the onus placed on Smith's son turn me off. I'll wait for the scathing reviews.

Hope they don't decide to demote the character's rank or we'd get Major Raige.

From the look of the animals (sabertooth tiger/that deer thing), I'd say they went back in time. So they are on Earth, but Earth thousands of years in the past. What a twist!
