Tom Hanks or Tom Cruise
Which actor do you prefer, Tom Hanks or Tom Cruise? I think overall I would have to go with Hanks. To me he's more versatile. He started out as a lightweight comedic actor in films such as Splash and turned to meatier, more dramatic roles in Philadelphia, Saving Private Ryan, Apollo 13 etc. Plus I really like Cast Away and Road to Perdition.
I like Cruise but Hanks has the edge.

I too like both of them very much.
Hanks is the better actor.
Hanks is more likeable.
Hanks isn't out of his mind.
Both have starred in some great movies, but I'll go with Hanks.

Re: Tom Hanks or Tom Cruise
Talking shit about Tom Cruise seems to be there "in" thing to do from clueless people. Kinda like people always saying The Simpsons isnt funny anymore when they havent watched a new episode in years.
Cruise always puts in a good performance even if the movie turns out to be a dud.

Cruise turned in three performances that I found very enjoyable: MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 2, THE LAST SAMURAI and COLLATERAL. Hanks is a good actor but he hasn't done anything I've found terribly entertaining since BIG, which was 24 years ago! I would trade Hanks' entire career for those three Cruise films. And I don't know that Cruise has ever turned in a performance anywhere near as bad as Hanks' in THE TERMINAL.

It's a draw for me. I don't feel particularly excited or unexcited for either. Both have good movies and clunkers. It's kind of hard for me to feel passionate over either one.

Yeah but Cruise won 2011 by a country mile with Ghost Protocol.
I gotta go with Cruise. Hanks seems like a nice guy and is a terrific actor but Cruise is more interesting and his movies are still big deals (most if the time).

I'm not a big fan of Tom Hanks but i do find him likeable in some of his movies.
I pick Tom Cruise because I like almost all his character roles in his movies.
He was great in Interview With The Vampire, Minority Report, You Can't Handle The Truth (forgot the name), Top Gun, Collateral, and the list keeps going.

Perusing both of their filmographies, I may have to change my vote to Cruise. Both have made some great movies and some clunkers.
Maybe Hanks goes for more "important" movies, but Cruise is certainly aging better.

For me it's a draw as well. It really depends on the movie and role.

Also..you guys need to stop that shit about Cruise's life. I don't give a fuck about their personal life for the most part. Give a damn about their work more than than their lives.

Now? Yea, I'd say now Cruise has a better body of work going than Hanks, but I see Hanks as the better actor overall. I'll even admit that I might find Cruise's films more enjoyable and fun than Hanks', but I'm making my choice purely based on who I think is the better actor.

Re: Tom Hanks or Tom Cruise
The last time I was surprised or interested by a Tom Hanks role was Cloud Atlas, one of his characters in there was VERY different from what he normally does. So that was exciting to see. Otherwise....he's meh. Great actor but he plays it too safe.
And before CA? I don't know. I don't think Hanks pushes himself as an actor too much nowadays. It's been too safe and boring.

Has anyone ever seen Angels & Demons with Tom Hanks?
In every scene I'm not lying; Tom Hanks and his friends are running up and down. In fact the whole entire movie is about jogging.
Tom Hanks probably lost 45lbs in that movie from all that running back and forth.
