I loved the Sandler/Fraser 1 on 1.

No one had ever put a woman as the lead in an action movie before The Hungar Games? I bet Sigourney Weaver feels pretty silly now.

Or Angelina Jolie, Bridgette Fonda, Saoirse Ronan, Geena Davis, Mila Jovovich, Linda Hamilton, Uma Thurman, Lucy Lui, Kate Beckinsale, Demi Moore, Michelle Yeoh, etc. etc.
But yeah, other than them - JLaw was the first.

She's always been a dummy and I try to avoid movies with her in it - extremely overrated actor.

^ I was thinking “First” leading female action role when I made my post but you’re exactly right, there have been plenty of females in starring action roles prior to 2012 when The Hungar Games came out.

I still don't understand what she meant...

Jennifer Lawrence has clarified remarks she made in a video interview with Viola Davis as part of Variety’s Actors on Actors series, in which she said, “I remember when I was doing Hunger Games, nobody had ever put a woman in the lead of an action movie, because it wouldn’t work, we were told. Girls and boys can both identify with a male lead, but boys cannot identify with a female lead.”

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday, Lawrence said, “That’s certainly not what I meant to say at all. I know that I am not the only woman who has ever led an action film. What I meant to emphasize was how good it feels. And I meant that with Viola — to blow past these old myths that you hear about … about the chatter that you would hear around that kind of thing. But it was my blunder and it came out wrong. I had nerves talking to a living legend.”

Re: The Hollywood Reporter Awards Roundtable / Variety Interviews Thread

^ Aside from her misspeaking about being the first female action star, the overall point I *think* she was making was that the “Hollywood boys club” doesn’t like to cast females in leading roles in action movies because it won’t work. Her point was that if women DO get cast, a lot of times it works out pretty well for the movie and as a female actor, it feels good proving the members of that boys club wrong.

I may be putting words in JLaw’s mouth but I think that’s roughly what she was trying to say.

I think your right. She can't believe The Hunger Games is the first female led action movie. She might not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but she probably heard of Alien or Tomb Raider before and regarding the prejudice female action movies don't work, she isn't wrong. Wonder Woman was put off for years, because Elektra and Catwoman bombed, which of course had nothing to do with the female lead, the movies just sucked. Even Marvel waited 20 movies before the made a female led movie, although almost everything they touched turned to gold.

How the heck is Avata up for BEST PICTURE - DRAMA at the GGs when it's not even out yet?
I guess most who voted it in have already seen it and it's close enough?

I mean, I know it's not, but what if it totally bombed horribly. Calling it BEST PICTURE would sure look weird.

Neither is Babylon (nominated for multiple categories) nor Puss in Boots (animated feature), and several movies that only just came out December 9 are nominated. It’s what the HFPA has seen.

Also, is Butler really like that all the time or does he actually have a personality? Everything about him felt fake.
