Last time you were blown away by a movie?

I mean really enveloped, totally absorbed and just on the edge of your seat...

Probably Skyfall for me. It just encompassed all the elements I go to the movies for: action, story, characters, emotion. Just everything i love about the whole movie going/making process. Gave it 4.5 stars which is the most i've given a movie since District 9, i believe.

I'd say that Skyfall surprised me in how good it was. Sooooooo fucking gorgeous too.

Dredd 3D was the one before Skyfall. Can't remember before Dredd in what blew me away.

The Dark Knight four years ago. An absolutely amazing bit of 3-D chess turned into a compelling narrative. Oh, and Heath Ledger was good too.

When the credits rolled at the end of Inception I felt compelled to applaud. There wasn't one scene where I wasn't completely engrossed despite not knowing what was going on.

There Will Be Blood floored me, went way beyond being blown away.

Un Prophète came pretty close, as did Bronson.

Warrior I just picked it on a whim when I was trying to find something to watch on Netflix. Turned out I loved every minute of it. It was surprising considering how low my expectations were going in!

Another movie that I saw on the spot a couple years back and thought was good was Taken. Great movie, but too bad I heard the sequel sucks.

But the last great movie I saw that really had an effect on me was Wreck-it Ralph. I expected a fun movie but it was so much more.

The Dark Knight Rises was much better than I thought it'd be as well.

Re: Last time you were blown away by a movie?

There Will Be Blood

It was the last film I saw where I walked out still in a haze from what I had just seen. One of the few times I walked out of a film knowing I had watched a masterpiece. It probably also helped that I didn't really track the film too closely leading up to its release, so I went in pretty cold unlike recent films that I thoroughly enjoyed, but did not rise to this level such as The Master.

The other film that most recently left me downright giddy from enjoyment was Kick-Ass. I knew nothing about it other than the NYC subway poster ads and the fact that it had Nic Cage in it. I walked out not believing how enjoyable it was. Probably my greatest surprise movie that I've seen in theaters.

Re: Last time you were blown away by a movie?

I wish I had seen Drive in theaters...

For me, Tron Legacy and The Dark Knight. Tron Legacy was an experience in Imax. I feel sorry for anyone who never got to experience it that way. It's an OK movie on it's own, but fuck, that Imax 3D version was something else, especially with the Daft Punk score. Saw it and TDK four times each.

Re: Last time you were blown away by a movie?

I was one of those people lucky to stumble into see Drive last summer, not knowing anything about the movie, and being compleatly absorbed by the way the story unfolded, drunk off the visuals, the feel of the city at night, and that gorgeous music score and sound design. I couldn't shake the feeling of that movie for several days.

It's funny because I was originally going to see something "arty" (A Seperation, I think, can't quite remember), but my father wanted to come to the movies with me so I thought, "Hmmm, dad gets bored easily. This Drive movie must be one of those cars driving fast movies, so we'll see that instead."
