Dredd deserved better.

Re: 10 Biggest Flops of 2012 (Forbes)
I don't understand how A THOUSAND WORDS, which made back half its budget, ties for #2 with CLOUD ATLAS, which only made back a quarter of its budget.

Cloud Atlas hasn't opened in most territories yet, it has pulled almost $9m in Russia so far (first week open) which is fantastic.
Oddly, it doesn't open in the UK until Feb 22nd. Japan on March 15th. |

No John Carter?

Re: 10 Biggest Flops of 2012 (Forbes)
Red Tails was pretty terrible, especially when compared to the made for TV Tuskegee movie from the 90's. I'm surprised to see that it made so much.

Re: 10 Biggest Flops of 2012 (Forbes)
John Carter made like $280 WW on a $250m budget, they don't count marketing in these things.

Re: 10 Biggest Flops of 2012 (Forbes)
It made a tad over $300 million worldwide, but I doubt Universal is thrilled with that number for Battleship considering the $260 million budget.

I liked Rock of Ages, won't be going back to the theater I saw it at though since the screen was small and common-width, plus they brought the masking up for the stupid pre-show commercials then had the screen shrink for the feature.

not really.

Re: 10 Biggest Flops of 2012 (Forbes)
The marketing for Dredd was atrocious. They didn't appeal to the general movie-watching audience.
As someone else said, I was surprised John Carter wasn't listed. That was first thing that came to mind. It did well overseas though. |
Re: 10 Biggest Flops of 2012 (Forbes)
Cloud Atlas and Dredd are two of my favorite movies of the year so far. And Premium Rush was fun.
:( |
Re: 10 Biggest Flops of 2012 (Forbes)
Having People Like Us in there is pretty silly. It hardly cost enough to really bomb, all things considered.
I see that list was compiled by "loss as a percentage of budget, rather than total loss" which explains why the biggest money drainers are not on the list. |

It was an entertaining enough flick, but damn... I just don't see $40 mil on the screen at all. |

Re: 10 Biggest Flops of 2012 (Forbes)
I have not seen Underworld 4 yet. It must have made well at the box office. I thought it would be up there on the list.

Re: 10 Biggest Flops of 2012 (Forbes)
I'm going to assume that Beckinsale's ass is enough to get the budget and then some back to the studio.

Surprised Total Recall remake isn't on there.
