They definitely implied it, but then Luther showed up at the end of the movie so if they want someone to still be alive then they'll still be alive.

The surving cast members are all old, but I wouldn't mind trying to find a small part for a TV character in this. Nimoy or Landau would seem to be the most obvious choice. Given their usual roles in the show they wouldn't even have to play the scene, just the mask reveal.

Maggie Q (Zhen) could definitely be part of 5. Nikita wrapped filming its final season about 1 month ago.

They might be gunning for the same December release that worked so well for the last one. It'll be tight though...

They said the entire IMF was disavowed. Not that all the agents were killed. Your confusing this with G.I. Joe: Retaliation where it was stated that all the Joes around the world were eliminated (thus implying that the missing characters from the first movie were all killed).

December 25th, 2015 release date.

The fifth "Mission: Impossible" film has been given an official release date of December 25th 2015. That puts it one week after the opening of "Star Wars: Episode VII" on December 18th.

Tom Cruise is due to return as Ethan Hunt in the film which "Jack Reacher" director Christopher McQuarrie is set to helm. No word on what the story entails or which other characters will return.

Drew Pearce ("Iron Man 3") is penning the script. The film follows's 2011's "Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol" which became the most acclaimed and successful entry in the series so far with a $694 million worldwide haul.

'Mission: Impossible 5' Taps New Writer (Exclusive)
3:15 PM PDT 5/9/2014 by Borys Kit

Will Staples will write the script for the fifth installment in the Tom Cruise action franchise, which is slated for release on Dec. 25, 2015.

Paramount, Skydance and Tom Cruise have tapped Will Staples to work on the script for the fifth Mission: Impossible.

Christopher McQuarrie is attached to direct the film, which will see the return of Cruise as Ethan Hunt. Paramount has slated it for release on Dec. 25, 2015.

Drew Pearce, who wrote Iron Man 3, previous worked on the script, but that was before McQuarrie signed on in August 2013.

Staples' previous work has been mostly in video games. He worked on Need for Speed: Rivals and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. He's attached to several films in development, including Blood & Treasure, a starring and directing vehicle for Ben Affleck set up at Warner Bros. He also wrote Myth for Fox and the Jeremy Renner vehicle King of Heists. He's repped by WME, Management 360 and Bloom Hergott.

Tom Cruise Productions, Paramount and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot are producing Mission: Impossible 5, and David Ellison's Skydance is co-producing.

The previous Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, released in December 2011, reinvigorated the franchise, grossing an outstanding $694.7 million worldwide.

Re: Mission Impossible 5 (McQuarrie)

Give Ving Rhames a good, co-leading role or just leave him out of it altogether.

Ving claimed in an interview that the budget was slashed and they could only afford him for a day of filming.

Here's my speculation about what happened: the studio didn't want to go over-budget, so they had to cut either Ving or Jeremy Renner. And since they were possibly setting up Renner to take over the series after Cruise's exit, they chose Renner over Rhames.

Either way, I agree, it would have been best to leave him out altogether rather than throw us a short cameo at the end. All it does it leave you with a sour note, making you wonder why the hell he wasn't there to begin with.

Deadline is reporting that Jessica Chastain is the studio's choice to star alongside Cruise.

Re: Mission Impossible 5 (McQuarrie)

I dislike them swapping out the MI operatives.

I mean you should have a pretty big team with all the operatives that have appeared. Jonathan Rhys Davies, Maggie Q, Paula Patton, Renner etc.

Rames seems to have been the only constant throughout the series other than Cruise, the others seem to be interchangeable. Well, except for Pegg in III and IV.

Ehh, Chastain. The only redhead I need in this series is Simon Pegg.
