So what's the difference between being disavowed in this movie and then being forced into 'Ghost Protocol'? Were they still quasi-sanctioned in the last movie?
Isn't this like a hat trick of times Ethan has had to go dark now? M:I he was framed, M:I 4 his team is framed..M:I5 same?

You thought Tom Cruise couldn’t possibly out-do his Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation A400 plane stunt, featuring Cruise literally hanging from the plane as it took off. Even with the greatest safety precautions, it could have been perilous.
Well, the latest M:I 5 trailer goes deep, with an intense underwater scene.
It’s something the adrenalin junkie Cruise has always wanted to do. Cruise told USA TODAY that he worked extensively for the underwater scene shot without a cut, training to have underwater breath holds of 6 to 6 1/2 minutes.
Says Cruise:
“It’s something I have always wanted to do. (Director Christopher McQuarrie) and I have been thinking about it since working on ‘Edge of Tomorrow.’ I have done a lot of underwater sequences. But we wanted to create a suspense underwater sequence without cuts. So doing that sequence was really interesting. We’re underwater and we’re doing breath-holds of 6 to 61/2 minutes. So I was doing all my training with the other stuff (on-set). It was very taxing stuff.”
Cruise worked extensively for weeks with Kirk Krack, performance underwater trainer, for the breath training to complete the scene.
“When you’re making ‘Mission’ movies you’re working with athletes and stunt people at the height of their game,” says Cruise.
Rebecca Ferguson, who joins the franchise cast, went from novice stunt performer to pro onset. Her first day involved scaling the Vienna Opera House with Cruise. She took part in the underwater scene.
Says Ferguson:
“When you are with Tom and the ‘Mission’ team, the best people are brought in to train you. So you are actually capable of managing everything. It’s incredible to know you have the ability to do these things.”

I can do 2 minutes but I HATE being under the water. The sensation of it has never settled w/ me. I only go underwater for endurance races but I'm freaking out the whole time. I'm just never comfortable w/ it.

My 17yo son asked me if we could watch the first four movies before he saw this one, so we've watched one a day for the last two days and we'll watch M:I 3 tonight (which is my favorite of the series).
Can't wait for Rogue Nation!

They really need to remaster MI1. And I guess 2 too? MI1 looks horrid today.

The first 3 really. Here's to hoping we'll see some remastered goodness when Rogue Nation hits blu and digital. A nice 5 movie SE set would be nice. Still can't believe this is the 5th movie already.

I'd swear I watched it as a kid but all I got when I think of MI the show is the Get Smart show. So I most like didn't.

For kicks and giggles I watched the Season 1 "Pilot" from 1966... and while slow paced, I liked seeing the "setting of the stage" (the mission, the "decomposing" message, choosing the team, etc.). Not sure I can sit through 7 seasons before Netflix drops M:I in July.

I still cannot believe he's strapped to the side of that plane. People can say whatever negative things they want about Cruise, but there's no denying he's got balls when it comes to this type of stuff.

I want to know if they didn't tell anyone about it. That would be difficult to insure.

He's a producer of the franchise. It's a lot easier for him to do that.
I want to know how much it costs to insure him though. Studio moneymen probably shit themselves when they see the stunts he wants to do.

Just to give you an example: 22 Jump Street. We were stuck having to turn our heads at the helicopter stunt. In the end, they didn't have the ok, but did it anyway.

They touched on insuring cruise a bit in this interview:
http://collider.com/mission-impossib...t-scores-more/
(And also a comment on how jai Courtney thinks it's unfair he can't ride a motorcycle Ina movie but they can hang cruise off the side of a building )

Do you want to talk a little bit about the cost of insuring Tom Cruise on these movies and does it keep on going up with each of these films?
ELLISON: One of my favorite moments, we actually didn’t have on this movie, but on Ghost Protocol, we wanted to hang Tom off the side of a building and we actually couldn’t get insurance and Tom wanted to fire the insurance company [laughs]. And we did and we got somebody to insure the movie.
